Title: Ever read a detailed compostie on a GTVA ship?
Post by: fabolous_blood on September 21, 2001, 12:27:00 pm
Well, heres ur chance!

Heres a sample of detailed information of a GTD XT-01 Destroyer. Compiled after a long typing session with FP2000....!
CREATED BY TK!

The Nexus-Class Next Generation Ships are the latest long-range exploration, fleet comand and colonization vessels being used by the GTVA to probe the far reaches of the galaxy. The first of these vessels, the New Dawn 01, was launched from Delta Serpentis in September 2368, and since then, only one Nexus class has been launched from the solar system, which was commandeered in January 2389 by a terrorist group now known as the Mariemea Faction. The Nexus New Dawn ships were intended to replaced the Hecate-Class Destroyer that had been in service now for two decades. Where the Hecates flaws caused its weakness in the Second Shivan Incursion, the New Dawn surpasses all this.
The Nexus Class ships represent a fundamental redesign and redevelopment of the GTVA's ship design as well as colonization strategy. The new vessels are designed to be the flagships of colonization fleets and battle groups; carrying well over 1 million civilian settlers. The colony portion of the Nexus Class vessel (usually called the "City" part; which was intended to be but after the abduction of the XT-02, no city will be created with further XT-01's) alone can carry over 7,000 civilians, a vast improvement over the 900-colonist capacity of the Orion vessels. In addition the City block provides much better protection for the civilians than earlier ships did. The semi-transparent compartment (which is on the outside of the ship looks like a normal hull) covering the city can be enclosed by a heavy projection shield that completely protects the colony from attacks (except for external areas, see below). When not in danger, the shield can be retracted off the compartment to provide colonists with an awe-inspiring view of the stars.

The Nexus Class vessels are also intended to serve as the flagship for the colonization fleet's military escort forces. Unlike previous colony ships the Nexus Class vessels can carry over 150 variable fighters at maximum capacity and contains sophisticated communication and radar systems which allows it to effectively coordinate fighter - bomber wings and escort ships in battle. In addition, the Nexus Class Vessels are armed with an impressive array of anti-warship weaponry, including standard turrets, rail guns, AAAf weaponry, Anti-Capitol Ship beam turrets and two heavy particle beam cannons modeled after the original BFGreen Beam on the GTVA Colossus. The performance of the XT-01 New Dawn has been so impressive that the GTVA has plans to construct more XT-01's to serve as command ships for all-military space fleets.

The interiors of the New Dawn city sections contain large metropolitan areas that are over 3 square kilometers in size (even though the New Dawn itself is only 2.4 kilometers long). These cities are usually extremely clean and well kept, and feature many parks and public areas for use by citizens. Most colony residents enjoy a high standard of living, which helps to offset the boredom of long-distance space travel.

Previous colonization fleets usually consisted of one Orion ship and a modest escort fleet. However, when a Nexus Class ship is launched it is accompanied by a fleet of special-purpose colony ships that make up a self-supporting community in space, allowing the ships to operate for years without contact from home. (Current estimates are that a Nexus Class colony fleet can operate for up to 30 years without resupply.) The accompanying colony fleet usually includes at least one of each of the following ships; Caliban Cove - class mobile factory ships, New Mecca-class (and/or New Millennium-class) colony ships. These ships are in addition to a moderately large military escort fleet made up mostly of Deimos-class corvettes, Leviathan & Aeoulus-class cruisers.

To date, seven New Dawn Resolution colony fleets have been launched since 2368. So far only two of these fleets have met with significant problems or resistance. The New Dawn-R 01 and New Dawn-R 02 colony fleets encountered Shivan forces and Mariemea Faction ships while exploring near the outter-rim worlds, leading to the GTVA - Mariemea Faction War which started in 2369. Fortunately none of the other New Macross fleets have encountered similar problems yet, but no one really knows what dangers are still waiting in the unexplored parts of the galaxy the ships are heading into.

I did something like that for my Alcyone.... here we go.

GTC Alcyone class

Service date: 2374 (conjectured)
Design status: Awaiting prototype trials
Primary Contractor: RNI Systems
Hull composition: Collapsed Tungsten-Rhenium-Iridium alloy with supercondutor grid, 58M RHA equivalent
Primary power system: RNI systems MF-41 deuterium fusion reactor
Primary drive system: RNI systems 'Starburst' 311-d fusial thrust drive, max velocity 30 m/s
Armament: 1 capital beam cannon, 4 AAA beam cannons, 6 flak turrets, 4 pulse turrets

RNI Systems' Aeolus class cruiser, while looked on with disfavor during the pre-war period, saw extensive combat during the NTF rebellion and Shivan invasion. It was only during these conflicts that the Aeolus came to claim the title as the most effective Allied cruiser, as it's massed antifighter weaponry could effectively cover an entire convoy, or in small hunter-killer packs attack with near impunity from retaliatory fighter counterstrikes. Demand and usage of these ships was so heavy near the end of the NTF and Shivan wars that they would often go into battle without full loadouts of flak projectiles and complete hull repairs. Only four ships survived out of the original twenty four built.

With their Laramis shipyards undamaged, RNI quickly started the production lines again after the end of the second Shivan invasion, rapidly producing more of the class. They also took the opportunity to correct a number of minor flaws such as the weak subsystem armor. At the current date, the Aeolus cruisers along with the Deimos corvettes are the most common vessel in Terran service. However, BuShips and RNI didn't stop there.

In 2373, the new GTC Alcyone class was unveiled, a technological follow-up to the Aeolus, designed jointly by RNI and GTVA BuShips. While as one pilot said, "damned short on looks" the Alcycone has an extensive and powerful weapons array. Using a similar hull setup, the Alcyone had a number of improvements over it's older sibling. These include improved antifighter beams and cannons, as well as a single nose mounted medium beam cannon, eliminating the Aeolus's other weakness, low anticapital firepower. The hull armor consists of a new collapsed Tungsten-Rhenium- Iridium alloy, laced with a heat-dispersing superconducting gridwork. This superdense armor has the greatest refractivity of any armor yet used by the GTVA, giving excellent protection against directed energy weapons. Many of these and other, lesser improvements are due in part to materials advancements made since the second Shivan invasion. Current plans are to assign Alcyone cruisers to mutually supporting hunter-killer packs in case of a major conflict, a strategy that was particularly effective for the NTF with their Aeolus cruisers.

Read one?  I've written them.

Of course, it wasn't for the GTVA  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif).
