Anyone got an idea of a decent RTS (I guess... maybe a squd based shoot-em-up, though that wouldn't be as good) I could do a connon fodder mod in? Wouldn't take much - about 2 character models and, er, maybe some new weapons & sounds. Play the GBC (or Pc / amiga if anyone's still got it) version to see what i mean :D

Cannon Fodder was/is the best RTS ever. Made you think and you really cared about the little guys. Never completed the first one. Got as far as mission 8 phase 2 then got stuck. Don't make them like that anymore..

Cannon Fodder? :wtf:
Ooh! The game I played so much in the year 199x. I never completed it either, but it was a nice game. Too bad I can't find it anymore (though haven't searched either :p), and if I could, it'd be some demo version, and if I could find demo/full version, it wouldn't work on my computer.
I think I've played only the first one, and got to around level ~21, and then the game just crashed... though I might remember wrong (but it sure crashed at some point).
-
That game was a blast! :D
I never completed it either, though. :o
The game became easier, when I learned to seperate the squad. :drevil:

Cannon Fodder wasn't an RTS *at all*. It was all tactics.

not even, I would almost say it was script based, you needed your guys placed at the right place at the right time, and a pixel off, you were dead :doubt:
was fun, but too dificult ( the latest missions were terrible ). couldn't finish it.
-
Were you playing it on a console or a computer? Cannon Fodder was designed for mouse play, so the console gaming experience was a whole new level of Hell. I had to resort to a walkthrough to finish the Jaguar version.
Yeah, nothing says fun like having your entire squad wiped out by a rocket from a soldier who's not even onscreen. Or by a soldier hiding behind a tree with supernaturally perfect aim. Or an invisible land mine.
What is it about Euro game programmers that "fair" doesn't seem to be part of their vocabulary?

I played Cannon Fodder for Gameboy Color once. Kinda sucked.

It was on PC. It is very old. Back then games were difficult and impossible to finish in 5 hours. Actually i wonder if I don't prefer short games :doubt: "Thinks of lemmings" ...That said, no, i don't.

What is it about Americans that means games that are difficult aren't "fair"?

What is it about 01010 that he can't tell the difference between "difficult" and "impossible unless you can see into the future"?

Well, seeing into the future wouldn't make the blindest bit of difference if you couldn't do the mission in the first place would it?
It wasn't impossible just incredibly ****ing difficult, if I was inclined to I could go back and complete the game now I reckon.
-
Games are meant to have a chaleenge to them, just look at OFP: Resistance. Hardesy freakin game I've ever played. Gives you some mental excersise.

It would make a difference if you couldn't "do" the mission because you kept getting killed by things that you didn't know about until after they'd already killed you. Duh.

No, you can;t do it. Doesn't mean the same for everyone. 'sides which, the GBC version (the one i have) is pretty intuitive.
-
Um Aldo, you kind of missed the "if" in there.
Besides which, in an indirect fashion we all can see into the future. Once you restart the mission, you know what's going to happen... up to the point you got killed last time, anyway.

Wow, I haven't heard that name in years... I loved that game. The little guys die too easily, that's my only criticism - made the missions impossible to complete later on. Boy, does anyone know where to download it still?
-
UD (http://www.the-underdogs.org) has a copy of CF2, and most old game stores have #1.
-
Ahhh, cheers. :)
-
For what it's worth, here's the link to the CF2 download:
http://files.the-underdogs.org:8080/games/c/cannon2/files/cannon2.zip

Click some banners while you're there- that's how she pays for bandwidth.
-
I might as well help a bit too... They got Shock 1 with speech for download!
-
And they've got Flashback: Quest for Identity... that game rocks! Alright, I'll click. ;)

Yep... HOTU is the top abandonware site online, has been for years. Means the IDSA assholes pay a bit more attention to it than other places, but it's still good.
