Post by: Goober5000 on December 30, 2002, 10:01:16 am: In the TVWP timeline, the Athena was developed during the 14-year war. (Notice in FS1 it says "we have received a shipment" of the Athenas, not "we have developed" them.) Having a D.H. would be a nice bonus. :)

- looks awesome
- nice loadout (interceptors anyone?)
- with that afterburner, it's like the second fastest ship in FS1
- handles hella nice for a "bomber"

I think they should have made the Athena the sort of elite fighter of the game.

Post by: Eviscerator on December 30, 2002, 10:31:56 pm: I think this would be an awesome Special Ops craft. Historically speaking, until recently, Spec Air Ops of both the US and the UK used older aircraft that had long been replaced by more advanced craft in the regualr services.

The reason was that they were cheaper and easier to maintain in the field, easy to get ahold of, and easy to modify in the highly battle stressed enviroment of Special Operations.

The Athena has always reminded me of the Canberra. A light bomber that was later used by both UK and US Spec Ops in the numerous low intensity brush conflicts of the 60's,70's and 80's.

I was gonna say. For reference, the RAF today use a few Canberras as high-altitude recon planes. Dunno where else they see service in the world, mind. UK's first jet bomber, they were :nod:

As for the elite fighter... well, it was good, but the Hercules did own. :D

Why else would I create a new, elite, heavy attack fighter using the Athena as the basis?
