Title: Heading to the UK for a fortnight
Post by: Galemp on December 30, 2002, 02:35:31 pm
Leaving on New Year's eve, coming back to the USA on the 16th. Sandwich just commented that I might see some of you guys there. I'm going to be visiting my grandparents (Technologically impared) so I probably won't get to see anyone. Unless anyone here lives in Aylesbury, Bucks?

I might take a train to see the plasticadaver exhibit in London, though. Since I'm leaving tomorrow, though, there's not much time to organize anything. I'm actually going to miss out on New Year's altogether; it will be midnight in my destination before I leave, and midnight at home after I arrive. Anyway, I'll see you all later.

I wish you good luck dude, and come back alive. :)

And especially don't get hit by any rockets. That's what happened to me two years ago. :D

I've lived all my life in the UK and I have no idea where Aylesbury or Bucks are. You sure that it's really your grandparents you're staying with and not some devious sex-fiend who's killed your grand-parents, mimic'd their voices over the phone talking to yer parents and walks around the house wearing yer grand-pa's skin like a rotting, wrinkled suit?

Nah, the Alliance are the main pro-fox hunting idiots.

They had a march here in Leicester a while back. Our plan was to march down the same street, at the same trime, in the opposite directions. That way, the coppers couldn't have arrested us, since we were just making a peaceful protest ;7

However, I failed to wake up until four in the aftenoon...

Eh? I get the impression you had some kind of link in your mind between those two things but I can't figure out what exactly that link was.

you didn't answer my question dude, i'm curious.. what connection are you running on?

Also, i didn't have a connection between the two per-say, i just always thought you lived in the US or Canada... don't ask me why, perhaps i'm confusing you and vadar... i mean, it's cool you live in the UK, i just didn't know

in that case, what connection ARE you running on your server

My server and expansionistic capitalist ideals went pear-shaped due to a lack of funding.

I, however, am running on a cable broadband line (512kbits). And fattonys.com (and subsequently nodewar.com) are running on some German OC3's with about 2 million other sites.

Though I may have access to a nice remote server running on a T3 line that it shares with a few dozen other rigs sometime in the near future.

nice, nice!!!

i'm on 56K right now :p :( but i'll get back to DSL or even Cable (depending which i decide upon) in the next few days.  It's just a matter of finding time at the moment, cause we've got the money and stuff to do it, just can't find the time (for those who don't know i gave up DSL a few months ago because the service provider sucked... i was down more often than it was running)

OC3, very nice!  In fact, the fastest connection i've ever been on was OC3 (well, i never HAD OC3, but i've worked with it)... downtown, i surfed the internet and played Starcraft on OC3 :D ;)

It's actually incredible... this was early in the morning, so there were probably only like 15-20 people using the line, and the page actually downloads faster than the computer can handle it, so it lags for like a split second, lol.

Anyway, since VW turned down my hosting offer, i've decided to not go for a dealine (i was going to have the server up by December 1st) but i'm going to take my time now, i'll probably only have it up in the next few months.  In the meantime, i know three people personally that have their own server, and i can (probably) get access to them, but one of my good friends gave me FTP access to his, and i'm working on getting Darkage full access too.  That server is running on fiber, which is actually incredible, and it's not used too much either, there's probably only like 3 other personal servers on it, and of course a few dozen people use the fiber-optic line for internet access, but that's only a few minutes of the day, so it's usually blazing fast.

Just curious, what exactly are you running (hardware-wise, i don't really need to know what version of Apache, Java, etc. you have)

The one i'm setting up is going to have the following (note "x" next to it means that i already have this part in my possession, items without an "x" mean i still need to buy.  i already have the case and power supply)
Asus A7M266 (x)
Athlon 1.4 GHZ (bought, on its way)
1 GB DDR (PC2100)
CD-Rom Drive (x)
Floppy Drive (x) (in fact, i recently bought 5 of them on Ebay)
CD-Burner
Tape Backup (x)
Dual 80 GB Hard Drives (i have one :p )
Cables and crap like that i've got boxes full, those won't be a prob.

Yeah, very nice!  Did you set the server up completely yourself?  what hardware do you have?  what are you running?

GalacticEmperor personal log date 1/8/03

I am the only one left, alone. It is difficult to bear. My supplies of deodorant and shampoo ran out days ago... my toothpaste tube is nearly empty. I must escape somehow, or be rescued.

BUMP! Hi everyone. I'm writing this in the Virgin Megastore Internet Cafe in London, where for the first time in my life I've been by myself in another country. Went to see the Body Worlds (http://www.bodyworlds.com) exhibit; fantastic. I had an hour to myself and, failing to find any strip clubs, decided to go online.

If there are any HLP Londoners who can meet me before 4:45 today (UK time) I can catch the Tube to the nearest station. Any takers? ;7 Reply here; better yet, PM me.
