Title: We now officially have a new president...
Post by: Styxx on January 01, 2003, 03:23:47 pm
And here's a cheer for the democratic process, now finally reaching maturity again on Brazil, and to hope that Luiz InĂ¡cio da Silva, or Lula as he likes to be called, may run a good and fair government - both to the Brazilian people and to Brazil as a sovereign nation among sovereign nations.

I myself don't agree with many of his views - I voted for the other guy - but I feel I must trust democracy. May the world's fifth largest country and ninth largest economy (second largest economy in the Americas) be in a better place, both economically and socially, when his government reaches its end.

Lulaaa!

I'm seriously tempted to move down there specifically because he's in charge. And colleges are supposed to be pretty good. And you get all the hot girls. But also because Lula's president, instead of a Texan fascist who wants every dissident in the country gassed by '06.

Don't they lock kids inside the school and college grounds to stop them getting shot?

Not that I know of.

On a side note, did you know he has only four fingers?

Yeah, there's a bit of as druglord problem. I think that's likely mostly in the same places you're liable to get shot here- after all, none of my Brazillian friends have been shot yet.;)

Here here to the democratic process.  Its far from perfect but its much preferable to anything else.

So does that mean HLP would be better if we elected our admins?

Erm, are you sure about that? I'm no longer as suspicious of him as I was when he was elected, but it's still a risk. I hope he won't screw up our economy too much, but I think we'll have a relevant increase on inflation and the Real will lose even more value when compared to the US Dollar... But our federal universities (completely free) are indeed very good, if you can get in (lots of applicants for each opening - usually around 25 to 1 for the best courses).

I'd assume it was before he was elected as he was only brought in today?

You know, he only became president today... that was when he was a metallurgic industry worker. He then retired, became a union leader, helped create the Worker's Party (Partido dos Trabalhadores - PT), was a congressman during the reinstitution of the democratic process back on the 80's and signed the constitution, and ran for president four times, only now being elected.

He's never had any similar jobs (so, no actual political experience) and he seems to think things are way easier than they actually are. That might mean trouble.
