Title: 3DS Max to POF - done with what?
Post by: deep_eyes on January 03, 2003, 12:46:58 am
I have some 3dStudio max models and some lightwave models that i think were POF'ed would be great additions to FS2, only problem is i dunno how to do this, although i know if it was truespace i;d be in the go, but since i dont, im stuck. a couple of ships include:

for starters... if this can be done, tell me how, and or if u have the time, if u know how to, could it be done, by anyone?

Ohhh, those are pretty.:yes: How long'd they take you, what's the polycount like? :) As for the conversion, I would probably go 3DS -> 3D Exploration/Deep Exploration -> COB -> Cob2Pof -> POF, and then PCS to add model data... but then again, I'm not the expert on that kind of thing. :)

Moved to FS modding.

Anyhow, those ships look rather high poly for FS.  I don't know if you'd be able to easily get them to convert, even if you don't factor in all the steps you'd have to go through.

d00d... wow lol, that was QUICK... thanks! I wish i made those bad boys, i really do, if i knew how to work them programs, for now im still a newbie @ them, but the models i found online @ other model sites for meshes etc., there pretty big in terms of poly counts etc., the site to see them is: HERE (http://www.scifi-meshes.com/area51/modelpages/meshes_rules.php)

Theres a pletorah of good models there too... including a Starcraft marine (Quake 3 here he comes lol).

where do i get 3d exploration/deep exploration?

Since the meshes are from scifi-meshes, I'd say polycpunts a problem.

Also don't forget mesh credits on the pics.  ;)

well, looking at the pics, it's quite obvious those ships won't go into FS2, sorry. would be faster to make them directly as low poly meshes then trying to polyreduce them, actually. But you can still use the high poly meshes to make the maps, that's easy.
anyway, to convert to fs2, you'd have to export from .max to .3ds ( done in max ) then open the 3ds file with truespace.
