if you're curious, it's my latest SCP addition, glow mapping ;7
I've included glow maps for most ships and it doesn't seem to hurt the frame rate too much,
you havn't lived untill you're seen a wing of glow mapped Nephelem escorted by a wing of glow maped manticore.
feel free to try getting the ships I missed (eryinges, ares, a few others, mostly capships, though I did get a good number of them)
there is also a more efecent decal code in there,
now this has only been tested twice and both times it crashed after a while,
and in fact I've never even run the relese build, it might not work at all
and I wans't kiding about beign op for 26 housre, I look forward to my glosuis vicccssss *passes out asleep*

I took some tech room screens but the jpg compression doesn't do them justisce, there is a topic on the subject in the SCP with the pics, but they look a lot better in game, a lot brighter

Nice, very nice, love what you did to the shivan vessels and you did the orion some justice WOOHOO!
include this in the next editon of the open and we can all eagerly await the next release :D
can't wait to see what you come up with next (nav lights perhaps or has that been done already?)

Nav lights have been done. They havent been done justice, but they have been done. I mean, who wants to see a white engine glow floating out in space?
EDIT: What I want is the flashing lights off an Orion enlarged a bit to make them visible at over 800 Meters.

here (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/blackwater/more_glowmaps.zip) is an additional map pack that will bring about 99%of all maps worthy of glow mapping to be glowing, about the only thing I didn't do were the cargo pods, most everything else is glow mapped, do tell me if I missed anything important

there is a specal version of PCS that sort of suports them (it crashes during the second save, corupting you're model, so only save it once!), I don't have a link to is off hand but look for one of the more recent glowpoint threads (do a search), also there are other tools that are being developed that suport glow points natively
I think I am going to play through the entire campain again now :)...

then all of a sudden i get a program in XP called DWWIN.EXE running and takes up like 90% of my system resources and is a ***** to cancel.

yes it is custom tables, you have a weapon named "Prometheus" somewere in you're ship table, but it isn't in the weapons tables

and never click yes on those things if you don't want to debug it (wich would require you have MSVC running or something similar, and no it does not fix anything)

alright i see now. its working pretty good now, its a nice effect going there on the shivan fighters. so when will it be possible to support custom mods...?

it should already, just be a good idea to fix the table problem it sees, do it once and you'll never have to again :)

it works already, I have all the OTT NGTA and shivan ships with lights already, it looks neat :)

I stand corrected, dude the effects look awesome... i noticed not all the ships have this glow effect implemented (not the cargo containers, the mod fighters like the GTF Banshee for example). Also for my ships, there not enhanceed, but then i noticed that only maps already used in FS2 are enhanced, since my maps are not standard maps, how do i go about enhancing my ships lights?

you make a glow map :)
take the texture of you're ship and make it how you think it should look with no outside ilumination, the effect looks best if you take into acount things like reflection.
two good methods would be
1 simply raising the contrast super high, this is only good for ships that have simple colors as iluminated (most fs1 fighters)
2 if there is a specific color (like shivan red) do a color chanel split, add the two colors (for shivans this would be green and blue) you don't want together and divide by 2 then subtract the green+blue/2 from the red, then ether colorize it or multiply it by the origonal source texture
the last step simply name the texture"name of sorce texture"-glow as an 8 bit palitized pcx file
feel free to look at the glow maps I have included, might be good to practice on some of the textures I missed

Bob: Just checking, for one thing. For another, let's just say stealth bombers aren't very stealthy when they've got lots of lights all over 'em.

Yea, but I always thought that todays stealth (well maybe not in real life.. whatever) was based more on sensor/radar hampering, not actually visibility, not that it nescasarriyl helps if you have a stealth suite but look like a christmas tree...

I'm talking my own stealth bomber mod. Which is stuck in TrueSpace, because I hate POF-editing.
And the Pegasus you could still eyeball and nail with primaries. Mine, heatseekers only (and regular mechanical failures of the stealth device, letting you lock on to it):D
