The FTG is back! (hey, it was a good idea the first time ;) ).
Same rules as the old one (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,11230.0.html); answer a question, then you get to post the next question.
Let's get started:
Which Shivan cruiser (not corvette or destroyer or jug) presents the greatest threat to anything corvette and up and what weapon is it armed with?
-
The Lilith, which is armed with the LRed. It can take down an Orion if it has enough fighter escort.
Here's an easy one:
How do9 you "save" Capella in the last mission? And no, you don't warp out before the star blows. There's more to it than that.:D
-
[Edit]Doh! Got beat :(.[/Edit]
-
I guess me and Blackwolf posted at the same time (almost)
-

Ummmmm...
Close off the Jump Node by detonating the GTD Bastion full of Meson Bombs?
-
That wouldn't save it. That would cut it off...
-
You have to disable/disarm/ignore one of the shivan cruisers that jump in (Bane or the Malchom)
If I'm not right, meh I tried
*edit: One of them starts off the Supernova script, and if you don't destroy it, you "save" cappella!! /edit*
-
Just checked....
When either the Bane or Melchom is destroyed, Libra arrives. Libra (along with the Reseph and Sesmu's destruction or departure and 710 seconds have passed) triggers the Capella nova. So, indirectly, the cruisers affect the supernova.
-
so...was I right?
And if I was right here is my question: What BIG threat did the Nyarlethotep(sp?) pose to the well-being of the Human and Vasudan races?
Cor
-
It was a lucifer and had its own knossos...
-
Close...but no cigar(what's special about knossi?)
-
... It's shivan and it appears out of mid air.. err.. vaccum
-

Cor
It would re-open the Vega-Capella jump node, thus unleashing the entire Shivan armada (and that's not good)
Next ques: Which vessel was the first to have beam cannons installed on it?
(and yes, Cor. You were right)
-
The Orion or the Typhon
-
Sobek?
-
where does it say sobek out of curiousity
-
just a guess KT! I don't really know
-
well aparently you were right... who wants to ask another question?!?!?
-
I was?! SWEEET!!!
After what event did the production of the Sobek begin?
-
Well, there are many answers to that one; any event that comes before it would qualify. :D But I remember where it says that bit...
The Vasuda Prime demolition.
-
the Vasudan Recronstruction.
-
your turn CP
-
How many years passed between the formation of the GTVA and the signing of the Beta Aquilae Convention treaty?
-
none? Weren't they simultaneous
-
nope, sorry :D
-
how about 13?
-
30?
-
GTVA was formed in 2345, and the BETAC was signed in 2358... damn you Spicious!!!
-
:p
Which Charybdis class vessel was lost from the third battle group in the nebula beyond the Knossos portal?
-
GTA Lucidity?
-
GTA Wachovia.
-
man, that is about the only FS2 question ever I was not able to get; good one there. :D Where does it say that?
BTW 13 is correct for mine.
-

Charbydis description in the tech room.
Next ques:
The GTA and the PVN both declared "open states of war against the Shivan forces" when what event occured?
-
Tombagh Station or however you spell it
-
Both Terrans and Vasudans were getting their front lines battered.
-
Both Terran and Vasudan forces suffered heavy casualties and realized that they can only save themselves by allying the other species against the Shivans. That was after the first mission flown against the Shivans in FS1. 'Out of the Dark, into the night' The Shivans appeared and destroyed the Vasudan task force, and only a few terrans could escape. I think this event might have forced the Terrans and Vasudans to sign a cease-fire and non-aggression pact.
-
Nope. No one's got it yet. :D
hint: its in a FS1 Command Brief.
-
The GTA lost the GTD Amadeus. *looks at Command brief*
The 3rd fleet lost the GTD Amadeus in the vega system.
My turn! Here's an easy one:
In that Spec Ops mission with Snipes, how many portals, how many Sathanas, and how many Shivan Comm nodes are there?
-
1 knossos device in the system (3 in total)
9 Sathanas Juggernauts jumped in
3 Shivan Commnodes
I miss anything?
-
IIRC you only actually saw either 4 or 5 Sathanas's jump in, but there were 9 known at the time.
-
*goes to play the mission*
-
The comm nodes and portals are right, but I think there were actually only seven of the juggernauts. Because you blew up the first one earlier and the second one was in the nebula at the time (and destroyed the Psamtik).
Charbydis description in the tech room.
Ah, I see it now, but it says GTA Panopticon there.
As for the FS1 question, I'm not too sure. :( Need to brush up on my FS1 knowledge...
-
Hades got it right.
The GTA has signed a cease fire and non-aggression pact with the Vasudans. Command has already expressed great relief, largely due to huge drain on military and economic resources the war has caused in the past few years.
The end of a 14-year war should bring peace. Unfortunately, there is no time to breathe easy.
After the 3rd Fleet lost the GTD Amadeus in the Vega system, the GTA and the Parliament of Vasuda have both declared open states of war against the Shivan forces
:D
-
what question are we on again? it's confusing
everyone should "quote" the question, and then try to answer it, so we can see what question we're on
-
currently the Into the Lions Den one.
-
All right.... next one.
Which FS2 campaign mission is similar to the second demo mission?
-
The one where The lysander dies?
(I've never played the demo)
-

Surrender, Belsarius!
(whee, I know one!!!)
-
Q: Which FS2 campaign mission is similar to the second demo mission?
A: Lets see. Escort mission, convoy attacked by corvete, cruiser destroyed, corvete 0wned by destroyer. That is the second one in the demo, isnt it? It was a good mission anyway.
I'm not really sure about a guess though. One of the very last missions, evacuating cappella?
-
uh... the first mission in the Blue Lions?

Top two pilots for FS1 multi (used to be at least.... Hurricane's #2 now)

Which mission was that? (i.e., what happened)
-
The first mission of the Blue Lions.
2 transports, a medical frigate and a freighter were being escorted by Sobek class corvette when it got ambushed by a Moloch Corvette.

Aha. Exodus?

I dunno...prolly

now, someone ask the next bloody question ;)
-
Name all the systems you can get to going from Ross 128 to Laramis and beyond.
(i.e., keep going through nodes until you reach every system)
-
N362
Luyten
Wolf 359
Banards Star
Alphard
Dubhe
Epsilon Eriandi
-
It's "Barnard's Star", and I think it's "Dubbe".
Which Luyten is it? :D
Answer that and you get to ask the next question.
-
fine.. "Barnard's Star", "Dubbe" and "Luyten-726-BA"
:blah:
somebody else ask a question that would sound like one of mine...
-
Luyten 726-8A
Barnard's Star
Wolf 359
Alphard
Dubhe
The Dubhe and Luyten 726-8A names are hard to read on the map but those are stars in real life. The other two you mentioned are not on the map... :wtf:
Let me try one...ah I know: :D
What ship has a turret inside the hull due to a modeling bug, what is the turret's number and approximately where on the ship is it located?
-
tsk tsk
that doesn't sound like me at all.
-
ah well, it's my kind of question instead; let's see if anyone gets this one... :D
-
Hint CP?
I've been searching through all the .pofs of all the capital ships and freighters...HINT ME!
-
I think you posted this one before...but I forget the answer, and I'm too lazy to do a search... :p
-
GTM Hippocrates, turret 5, on the lower aft section. There is a turret on the outside starboard face of that component, but the port side turret is placed inside the hull.
I pass on the question, as I am about out of good FS trivia myself.
-
heh i thought it would be the Demon.. I guess its just bad texturing then.
oh, Stratt, go to the DatDB Privates please... see "FTP Access"
-
*thinks*
...
...
...
(!Inferno related Question!) Name 3 Shivan capital ships that you see in Inferno (excluding the Gigas and the Gargant)
Or:
Name all the NTF ships that were destroyed as they ran the jump-node blockades(in the command briefing)
-
hehehe
*opens up inferno vp*
SD Iblis
SC Raguel
SSD Diablo
SD Kismat
SCv Scylla
oh wait.. that's more than 3...
somebody else go at the question.
-
I'll just give the answer to mine, since nobody has gotten it yet. :D It is turret29 on the Hatshepsut, which is centered on the upper rear section; I actually posted a thread about it a long time ago. You need to look very closely in Modelview or something to notice it, but it severely inhibits the turret's field of view in the game and makes it act really weird, which is how I found it. Unfortunately, I don't know how to move the actual turret submodel around, so I cannot affect a fix.

I just checked this and you are quite right here too; guess this is another ship with the same problem. Interestingly, the turret4 on the opposite side (which is essentially a mirror of the turret5 side) is fine.

hehheh
That Was Cor's and mine original guess.. well mine was that and the Demon. I'm pretty sure the demon has one of two, unless its just a bad tex job.
Next!!
-
I need to check out that Demon more closely then. Here's a similar one: what ship has a subsystem placed well outside the ship model? :D (this should be easy for HLP veterans with a good memory :D)
As for the Inferno question, is Inferno even out yet?
-

*has no idea*
although I know a few mods that do.. hmmm
Inferno? .. soon :thepimp:
Hurry up and finish your camp sucka :p
-
As a wild guess, the Colossus, since it already has that warp-out error.
*blinks*
Hey, I'm on the Source Code Project staff... :drevil:
-
Warp...out...error..? :wtf:
enlighten me about that Goober
Cor
-
I'd guess the Shivan gas miner since I can't seem to find any others. I know you can blow the tank/spinning thing off of those miners, and the engine is behind that, so you can have a target indicator that doesn't point to where the ship is, but I don't know of any that truely have subsystems way outside of their hulls.
-

Cor
Make up a quick mission with just you and the Colossus, with the Colossus cued to depart after a few seconds. The warp-out is all messed up.
-
Ah well, I thought somebody would remember since I posted a thread on this thing as well several months ago. :D It is the Hatshepsut once again. Look at where the engine02 subsystem is placed. (in fact, I think I found this particular thread; go here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,388.0.html ) The Colossus has one similarity with the Hatshepsut btw; they both have the center point placed in the far back of the ship, so they look very strange while turning. :p
How about one of you come up with a question this time...
-
Name 2 Shivan Destroyers (excluding the lucifer and Eva) that were mentioned or destroyed in FS1
-
Tantalus -- Clash of the Titans
hmm... can't remember any others :p
-
Cruisers are good too.. but you have to name 5 instead of 2.
(Maybe I'm just asking because I need to know and am too lazy to research :nervous: )
-
Easy - Cain, Abel, Thunder, Lightning, Zenith - without even thinking about it too much. :p
But I still want to know that other destroyer.
-
You haven't told it must be in the main single player campaign of FS1. First is the Tantalus, and the other is the another Demon-class destroyer which must be destroyed in the original volition-made multiplayer mission, in which you must protect a research center, or something like that.
-

The Hellfire. I wuv that mission :D
Also, there's the Hanuman (or something like that) in one of the ST multi missions.
Another one was the Tiburon, but that's user-made, so it doesn't count.
-
Taranis was a cruiser!
Hmm... I forgot about multi. I never play it, so I wouldn't know.
-
So am I right(no, I am left) about that other name? Or you thought it to be another one?
-

yup

My question:
How many weapon emplacements does the GTVA Colossus has? (Flak guns, warhead launchers, beams and normal turrets)
-
Haven't been to this thread in a while...
Anyway, 63. The movie information is incorrect; it actually has 18 laser turrets (10 big, 8 small), 12 flak turrets, 10 missile launchers, and 23 beam cannons (13 big, 10 small). These contain 10 Terran Huge Turrets, 8 Terran Turrets, 12 Standard Flak, 8 MX-52s, 2 Piranhas, 10 AAAf's, 7 TerSlashes and 5 BGreens. Note that in the sm3-02 "High Noon" mission, and possibly others as well, the BGreens are all replaced with LRBGreens. (being the nut I am, I have memorized the armaments and turret positions of all the FS2 ships  :D)
-
Yeah. You surely calculated well. I didn't count them, I thought the movie is right. Looks as not. Congrats, your turn!

She never seems to fire her missiles tho. Mainly 'cos they're listed in PBanks in the tbl and do not physically exist as missile points in the pof.
-
Hmm... Here's one.
Name all GVC/PVC Mentu cruisers that have appeared in the main FS2 campaign, up to the Mission "Flaming Sword". ;)

GVC Andromeda (guess)

GVC Somtus

What were the names of the six warships that attacked the Ravana? (one of them is tricky to find)

Assuming the Andromeda wasMentu class (likely, since the Aten class is a GW1 relic, even though the command briefing doesn't mention the class)... correct.
GVC Yaaru
GVC Unut
The Yaaru is supposed to have a different designation since it was under General Ahmose, and it acted without order from high command (PVC - :sigh: another slip-up by the :V: squad) Anyways... Correct :D
What were the names of the six warships that attacked the Ravana? (one of them is tricky to find)
Okay... GTC Heisenberg (Leviathan), GVCv Khenmu (Sobek), GVC Somtus (Mentu), GTCv Yakiba (Deimos)... and naturally the GTCv Actium and Lysander (Deimos)
Happy? :D
<>
And yes, the Heisenberg was a bit hard to find ;)
-
Well you forgot the Delecroix, First destroyer killed in the Second Shivan incursion and it died from the ravana...
-
New question. Who was the commander of the GTD Intrepid in 2335? (Tricky.)
-
Wasn't it Admiral Po?
Said so in one of the ST Command Briefs I think.
-
First it was Admiral Jefferson, but he was killed during the Great War.
( oops - did I just give away a FOW plot secret? :nervous: )
BTW, how do you find the GTC Heisenberg?
-
Ever notice that during the main Great War campaign, there's a gap of almost a month unaccounted for while you're off chasing down the Ancients in Altair? Ever wonder what might be happening on the front lines? A lot can happen in the space of a month.
Such as the arrival of a second Lucifer...
:wtf: Second lucifer? I guess I shouldn't question at this point :p
-
:p
The campaign started out noobish, but I think I've done a good job making it professional. Look for a release sometime around 2007. :nervous:
-

Correct! The first one.
Next question. What were the four major Terran factions during Reconstruction?
-
Laramis, Antarares Federation.. Procyon something and Deneb
-
Adhara Coalition, Antares Federation, Luyten New Alliance and Regulus Syndicate.
I can't really think of an original question at the moment, so I will just expand on this one: :p
Name all GVC/PVC Mentu cruisers that have appeared in the main FS2 campaign, up to the Mission "Flaming Sword".
Name all of the Mentu cruisers that appear in or are referenced to in all of FS2. (there are at least 7, possibly 8)
-

Hey, he wanted 6, I gave him 6! Of course, the GTD Delacroix was ripped apart by the Ravana, but hell, the Delacroix would spill over the list :P

If the GVCv Khenmu was destroyed, the Leviathan would warp in in its place.

Open up FRED and extract the SM1-07 to the directory.
Also, I meant the warships that attacked (not attacked by, so the Lysander and Actium don't count). There's one other hard-to-find one.
-
must keep this thread ALIVE
-
We keep it ALIVE by asking QUESTIONS....
*thinks* What ship is on the 2-CD sleeve for the original Freespace?
-
(without looking)
GVF Horus
-
Really?
I thought it was a PVD Typhon?
Cor
-
answer to my ques:
Delacroix, Champion (look at SM1-07 failed debrief), Khenmu, Heisenburg, Yakiba, and Somtus.
As for GE's ques, I thought it was the Typhon....
But i'm stoopid.....
-
It is the typhon on my cover, so it depends on the release that you got.
-
Typhon on mine too.
OK, Cor, it's your ball.
-
I have the re-release, i was jsut guessing. :nervous:
-
This is an old question I asked in the last trivia game:
How many turrets does the GTD Deimos(the corvettes name on the FS2 CD sleeve)have?(NOTE: It is NOT the number of turrets on the Deimos in-game)
Ok, let's see if someone can answer this one...
Cor
-
32 or 28.
-
I think it's 32, but it has been a while since I last saw that and I could be wrong. However since you can only see one side of the ship there, you have to assume that the turrets on the other side are symetrically placed.
Anyway, here is the answer to my question:
GVC Somtus, GVC Unut, GVC Heket, GVC Ptah-Nu, GVC Yaaru, GVC Mycerinus, GVC Khevtoth, GVC Andromeda (maybe)
