Title: sound problem in FS2
Post by: Pompa on January 04, 2003, 07:53:09 pm
Hello, this is my first time in this forum.
I have a problem (and I've searched this forum without result)
I have some soundprobs in FS2.
The sound is breaking up and cracking/distorted...it sounds terrible and often it starts more or less ok and get worse the longer I play...I don't have any probs at all with FS1.
I can't remembering this problem from before (older computer)
I have patched FS2 without results.

I have an Athlon 1.3Ghz,512Mb SDRAM,GeForce4 Ti4600 (Asus V8460 Ultra), SB Live! 5.1 bulk
lets see, what else...oh yes, WinXP,dx8

I'd be grateful if anyone could please help me with this, it's really annoying as I want to start playing FS again...oh, and its really exciting reading about all the stuff I've missed, campaigns,FS1 port, open source etc :)

Nice Comp!
R your speakers broken, sounds like it should work fine.

*Fire Control, target Pompa.  Warm up the beam.  And... FIRE!*

Exits are to the sides and rear.  Personal flamethrowers are located beneath your seat in case of emergency or naughty disposition.  If you run into any Shivans while crawling through the ductwork, it's probably just Carl.  Give him your lunch, don't make any sudden moves, and you'll be fine.

Anyway, about your sound problem, try checking in Setup in the FS2 launcher whether you have the sound set to DirectSound or Aureal 3D sound.  If it set to the latter, try the former.  It might help.  :)

i remember many people that had the same problem than you, when I was tech support at the VBB

Update your sound card as much as possible with the lastest driver...I know that Creative released drivers of about 10MB recently (about Monday or Tuesday).

And I think all people who had the same problem than you, had SoundBlaster or Audigy.

Try that. I stay tuned on that topic :)

disable A3D sound, enable Direct Sound (if you haven't tried that already)

Try some different speakers, or just buy a cheap and nasty sound card, and try that.

i don't think speakers are a problem...did you try (i don't think it'll work) the new drivers for creative cards?

My sound quality seems to go lower when there is a greater number of sounds (or potential sounds) in the mission.  I'm usually fine till I fly upto an Orion with flak guns, beam cannons, and a fighter complement shooting at me.  Then my sound looses a bit of quality.

Its an XP bug with me anyways.

See if playing at 640x480, 16-bit color, software mode fixes your problem (yes, I know it's a sound problem - just try it).

had no pb with fs2, replaced my old ISA SB16 with a newer PCI SB128 ( new motherboards didn't have ISA ports ), and since then, always had thos annoying crackings and stuffs. On my PC it even slows everything down when it happens. Most annoying.
