A large bomber based on a concept pic. This is my first 100% modelled ship.
The EASD Nemesis, Redeemer Class Super Destroyer, 3.2km long, 50 turrets and is 80% complete. Made by me and a friend.
-
You ought to be very proud of that bomber. In fact, it's one of the best bomber models I've seen yet.
The Nemesis looks a bit like a reskinned Fenris on some REALLY strong steroids. Which is why it looks so damn cool.
-
Round off some corners on that there bomber, boy! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
Nice work on both of 'em!
EDIT: 3.2km, eh? Does that make the radar dishes around 200 meters? !!! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

... what was I about to say?
-
Oh yeah. Nice ships.
-
Hey Woomeister, KICK @SS!
And yes, 200 meter satelite dishes seems outragous doesn't it?
I'd rather go for fully detailed sets of smaller ones. Like two clusters, one atop, one on bottom. Small antenae and then a dish or two.
But I'm not complaining at all!
-
Excellent stuff! I love the Nemesis! But change the name to a Greek God - keep with consistancy. I love this destroyer though! When can we have it? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

It is the name of a Greek goddess: http://www.pantheon.org/articles/n/nemesis.html ("http://www.pantheon.org/articles/n/nemesis.html")

What's wrong with 200m radar antennae? Do you realize the kind of long-range resolution you could get with those things? On the other hand, one of those antennae is larger than my VLBI frigate! (180m by the way), maybe they are a bit large (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)
-
Those... are... so cool... That bomber looks like a cross between a Herc and an Ursa, while Jabu is right - the Nemesis looks like a mega souped-up Fenris. Which is definitely a good thing. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
-
Also a 200m antenna size would give a beam width of less than 0.01 degrees.
good long range resolution yes, but think of the scan pattern you would have to use to cover the whole sky. The dishes would have to spin at 6000 rpm just to cover a 10 degree band every second.
Anyway by the time of freespace all radar will use electronically scanned beams instead of mechanically scanned ones.

The Radar is 326m long.
It'll be released when I find someone to do all the path data for this and the rest of the Inferno mods missing paths.
-
Good ships.
-
Now that's sad, a kamikazi cruiser, slams into the radar dish, dish survives, cruisers' toast.
-
Actually to me, these ships both look like early V-T war craft...
The "Nemesis" looks like an Orion-Fenris hybrid, maybe an early cruiser or corvette.
The bomber looks like a good predecessor to the Medusa, if it had an Apollo-esque skin.

There is a point there.
Why would FS ships be using conventional radar devices?
I'd think they'd be using advanced forms of our Aegis radar systems.
Radar towers with spherest that cover each direction I could see...
-
Simple... Radar resolution is a factor of your antennea size. This is limited by physics, not technology. Such an antennea using [conventional] phased array tech would consume a huge amount of internal ship space, hardly desirable.
Besides, there's nothing that says that it's not a phased-array system just because it's mounted on an external, steerable platform.

leave that bomber like it is!!
How bout naming it GTB-Theseus after the great greek warrior who slew the minotaur, or how about the GTB-Minotaur.
How bout the GTB-Ajax, warrior who fought for the greeks in the trojan war. or GTB-Meloneus, another warrion. GTB-Castor, GTB-Pollux!!! GTB-Mycenean, GTB-Bacchas god of wine, GTB-Achilles, GTB-Oddysses, GTB-Diomedes, another warrior. the GTB-Xanthus, a river, GTB-Patroclus, another warrior? you like those names!! i got twice as many, and 10 as more Egyptian priest, gods, cities, scribes, and tons other names or my name isnt AkenRed
-
GTB-Bacchas? I can already see what pre-flight rituals the pilots of such craft might undertake...
... I'll bet that gunnery performance will drop substancially though! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)

A repair base what's easy to pik off by shivans? or a mobile repair ship that can run at the first sign of danger?
AGH! Wooseys back NO! I am free from my chains he's gona EAT ME! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/evil.gif)

Hahah, not a problem dude. It's great to have you around. Any friend of Woosey's a friend of mine - but then again hey, anyone's a friend of mine (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
IMHO, I'd go for the repair bay/station - it could fit in well as something to include with Arcadia stations to help alleviate station workload, which can't be handled by the GTExtension classes - but then again, go with what you think. If you have an idea, make it! And you could always make both... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Well I am made a station, ask woosey for that i think it's in "What am i ment to do with this you idiot?" mode, he reats me so cruely. As for the mobile repair ship, i already have the main body done, just have to add the bit forships to crash into and get repaired in
But see i haet run everything by the woosinator seeing as all i do is model and he does allthe important bits to make it a ship, so if hehasn't the time, it's just a block with rely bad texturing (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/evil.gif)
-
I'll vote for a mobile repair ship.
Give it two repair bays/dock points on either side of it...
Or maybe a real 'dry dock' type of station.
The ganymede is supposed to be one, but it doesn't bring a ship out of the 'water'. (Dry being in air, not in a vaccuum.)
-
hey, I read somewhere that if you give a weapon negative damage, it will actually repair your target (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)you can play this ship then (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
I too have thought about positive energy weapons, like ones that enhance your shields or repair damage subsystems
-
I like those ships dude, the cruiser is great, looks like it has plenty of muscle and the bomber looks damn good as well.
Lotsa great models around here. Yeah!!

Hey, thanks for suport. I made it (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) Three designs acctually, one looked a bit to much like a station with engines, next one woosey thinks it looks cool andtook it off my hands and the third was to much like a carrier and he says he has to many already
then he said he wouldn't make it because he doesn't need one
That's what hapen to my ideas, ruined right at the end (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/evil.gif)
-
You can learn to do it yourself now, you do know I have a campaign to run.

If that is true then that would be cool for the repair ship IF woosey would make it.
Also, what about repair drones for fighters and larger ships? they have a tiny beam that looks like it is welding or something? i just throw these ideas in incase anyone wants todot them, even though i will end up doing them... probably, if peoplelike them. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/evil.gif)

Use a short-range slash beam, probably... except you'd have to control it with SEXPs, so it didn't repair oppo ships. A 'no-damage' slash type beam would be quite good for mounting on, say, a Faustus as a scanning beam (i.e. command briefing ani when they are investigating the Knossos).
The other thing is to have a support ship set as a repair ship, using the 'is-docked'(?) SEXP to heal any ships when it docks. Of course, this would hurt the balance of the game a bit.
I was going to make a 'tugboat' type ship - with 8 ecxtremely large engines and a huge reactor section - to both 'pull' crippled ships, and to provide additional energy to power emergency systems and possibly some defensive turrets on the towed ship. would be quite neat for defensive missions.

This gives me a great idea for a SAR craft for my own MOD (engine 'kills' are rather common)...
Thanx aldo!

The tugboat idea is good.
Sexp for a beam that has 0 damage a long life, no buildup/cooldown, and really really small fire wait 0.05 or so. And NO impact explosion. The ship would need to have it's beams disabled, or only selectivly enabled.
Sexp the turrets to fire at the same weapon turret or subsystem for continuity's sake.
The hauled ship should have a engine subsystem strength of 2% or so with sexps to keep it repaired at 2%.
Then waypoints and capship speed limits.
Definitely make sure the tugboat can't accept any player orders to attack or capture anything or else it'd run off of the waypoint and the towed ship would keep going.
And I don't think the negative damage modifier would work guys. I've read alot of posts at the VBB of people trying it but failing.
Though I'm not going to stop anyne from trying it themselves, Nobody's perfect.
