Planet made or found. I wanted to make something in photoshop but I can't find the right planet.
I need a planet that kinda gives off the "dead" feeling. I was thinking Of a black "dead" planet with pits of lava and a little red kinda, but mostly dead looking. Of course this shot is from orbit
Note that I don't need anything really big, just enough to get the right detail.
Go!

I've never been able to quite to do the 'pits of lava' thing convincingly... I remember trying a long time ago and instead ending up with this...

I think it's mostly cracks that look good, not pits.
I'd upload one I have on stock, but I'd need some kinda motivation, and it's a bit... not all that great, itself.. Maybe in a bit.
-
steak p1mping his renders...
-
Actually the Array is the first place I went :D
It's almost what I want, except waay too bright/slash foggy
oh, and for what I'm doing, I need the horizon of the planet.
-
Why don't you look at the img for Za'ha'dum from TBP? It looks very "dead", altho it doesn't have all of the fiddly lava bits...

Ahhh, I see... yeah, I myself never succeeded in doing the dead planet thing. :o Z'ha'dum is pretty good suggestion, though.

The what now?
*Doesn't know B5*
can I get a link?
-
It wantses something like this, yeeesss?

Pick a color. You want black, gray/rocky, or what? I can clean up thsoe procedural glows so they don't go all the way back...
-
hey thats not far off actually. Lots of glowy lava, if it could be toned down a little bit, then all I need is a dull starfield :D
-
An zen you chop and you slice and you hack like so, and VOILA! Un Planet Flambeaux!

Z'Ha'Dum, the homeworld of the Shadows, and also the First One, Lorien. You go there, you die, that's the tourism slogan. :D
-
Way ahead o' yeah.. except I am a noob, how can I make a good starfield?
-
Glitterato or a plugin. Plugin quality and availablity depends on program. The one I got, see, good for animations, since it doesn't turn with the camera, gives a sense of movement, but looks like crap in stills.
-
I usually make a random noise field and bring down the brightness.

wow that would have been a helluv alot easier.. shoulda thunk it.. will anywho.. gimme a sec
-
Huh. Never even thanking me for going and generating all those texture, mapping it on a planet, rendering it, compressing it, uploading it... *sigh*
:D
-
oo your planet turned out very nicely stryke.
Danke shan :D

That's okay, it took me months to realise I could make a decent 2D starfield so simply. ;)

That's true, though I do it another way... ;)

Anyway, *bump*! Hopefully this helps you with that magma planet, dude
-
*chuckles*
He's asking for the same reason I did :D
-
Desert planets, forest planets, cloudy planets, ocean planets, moons - I can do all of them. But magma planets, the one type I can't do, are in demand. :D

whoa, that's a nice looking lightning  ... can you share your recipe? :) :p
-
Errr, it's all just maths... :) (CP would love it, actually.)
-
you can make an even better starfield with the same amount of steps. just put noise at about 30 on guassian, then go to levels and switch the middle box to 0.2 and volia! perfect starfield.

I tried a quick test, ok it's ugly as hell ( I need to tame that damn videopost glow once and for all, it always goes everywhere ), but the idea is there.
