Title: beam question
Post by: demon442 on January 08, 2003, 10:15:56 pm
A friend came up with an interesting idea:  an ammo based beam turret at a secondary weapon.  First of all, is this possible?  Can it be done without the use of the source code? And how might i go about in doing this if it is possible?

I think if you make a dumbfire missle and then model and color it like a laser, then give it a large amount of ammo and whatever characteristics you want the "beam" to have (such as shield piercing) i think would just be in the table, if i'm not mistaken.

With that, you could have your "beam".. I think it would work.. don't quote me on it though. Not sure if it would look the prettiest either but the closest I can think of ATM without SCP mods.

What about making a rotating turret a secondary weapon?  I may be able to engineer a beam for it to fire from there.

Rotating? the best I could think of is one that would have aspect-lock with a super fast missle...

This is getting more and more into places that I have no idea what I am talking about right now.. so i'll let somebody else wear the pants for now.

Yes, I know that, but i'd rather not use the SC for a learning exercize.  The idea calls for a rotating turret to act as a secondary weapon with ammo and a lock on before firing a 1 to 2 second beam at the target when you hit your secondary fire.  I'm currently working on a laser that acts like what i had in mind but i still need it to lock on before it can fire(i doubt this can be done with a primary or normal turret).  I also had the idea to make the turret destroy itself after X number of shots(overheating) and to be repaired when you rearm it.  If this can't be done without using the SC, i'll forget it.  You SCP boys have enough to do already.

So it would just be like auto-aiming guns, like starlancer?

Never played starlancer, but sorta like that, i guess...

The beam acts like an aspect missile before firing and a beam after firing, simple as that.

Yea, I actually had a gun like this I wanted to make.. sort of a fighter sniper rifle.

I'd actually like to get this made, so maybe we should go for SCP help? I don't think it'd be alot of trouble.. they seem to get off on **** like this.

Well, i guess...

All we need is the ability for turrets to act as primary and secondaries.

I've got the sniper rifle done(only took me an hour), i just need to tweak the length (currently about 200).
