Title: GTD Gaia class

"After the scission between the terran government and the vasudan empire in 2383, the NGTA was in need for a new class of destroyer, free from all vasudan design. The refited Interdictor class ships served to fill in the gap until an improved design was built. Four destroyer classes followed the Interdictor, untill the NGTA met again with the shivans. Those encounters were very ponctual, but the shivan paranoia arouse again. People didn't forget the sathanas. The Gaia class is a direct result of this fear. Next comes an exerpt of the ship's information document:
"...The Gaïa class destroyer has been designed as a capital ship hunter killer, especilally shivan ones. Apart from the Demon class destroyer, it has been witnessed that all the major shivan vessels (including the Ravana class, the Lucifer class and the Sathanas class) packs most of their fire power on their front part. The Gaïa has been designed especially to use this weakness. Its mission is to flank the enemy capital ship and  reap it apart while the target can’t fire back. For this purpose the Gaïa emphasizes more on speed and firepower than hull. It is faster than any other ship of its class thanks to numerous powerfull engines, and the fire power as been localised mainly on its sides, so it doesn’t have to waste time on useless moves and can open fire as soon as it has reached the flank of its target. Additionally, the use of LRB can allow it to supress less heavy enemy presence from a very long range..."
The GTD gaia is now the only destroyer in use in the NGTA fleet, since its initial enter in service in 3461. The NGTA navy flagship, the Exelion, is a perfect exemple of this ship.

Note: Gaia has already been used (BHD Gaia) in Black Horizon (FS1).

grumph, I really have no luck with names  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)
Bah, is the ship in FS2? If not, I keep my name.

No, it's only in FS1. It's just an Orion reskin and the guy who made the campaign left the community quite awhile ago so I don't expect an argument.

mmh... I've seen something too, but not really a face  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif). But this gave me an idea, you'll see a "special" version one day or the other, I promise  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Looking great!

Hey Venom, when I put your Banshee into Fred2, the textures show up completely wrong (like black with a white stripe), but it shows up in FS2 fine. Are you aware of this problem? Cheers.

yeah, that's because it uses a 512*512 map... I should size them down now I know it's useless to have such large maps  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)

If you do change them, I would be highly interested. By the way, would you mind if I use your Banshee in the Alpha Quadrant project as a Starfleet USS Raptor fighter class (with appropriate credit of course)?

a startrek fighter  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif)...
bah, yeah, do what you want with it. Btw, for the maps, you can do it by yourslef, basically I just open the map in a drawing prog (similar to PSP), and size the pic to 256*256

Oh. That simple? I though there would have a been a complicated special thing to do. Ok cool  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/cool.gif)

By the way, StarFleet has hundreds of fighters. Particularly the Peregrine class. Plus the newer Venture class scout ships can be used as fighters.

I'm not sure if you're going to make those turret positions in the render the final ones, but from looking at the pics it seems like this thing would be ridiculously easy to take from the rear.  I understand your reasons for making so many flanking turrets, but what if that shivan warship jumps in behind it?  Maybe shift some more coverage on the back (while still keeping the flanks heavily armed of course).

Ship looks awesome though, can't wait to see it in action!

what if a shivan ship jumps behind it? Well, the gaia is doomed  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) That's kindda of purpose, for many reasons. One, it makes interesting possibilities for missions, 2, the gaia is quite fast so it can move away and turn quite quickly (if it's a sathanas or even a Ravana that jumps in, of course, no much luck left...) to bring the enemy in weapon range. plus the Gaia relies A LOT on cruiser cover. I'll post a pic of the Aegis tonight I think.
