Big-ass freighter.Possibly, the ugliest ship I've ever done- which sucks, because I like all the individual parts, separate from each other. Word to the wise, kids- never start modeling a ship unless you have a good idea of what the whole thing's supposed to look like in the end.
Also, never go above a million polys. Can fit that much more detail in, but when it comes to rendering, takes ten to fifteen minutes to move, select, or edit one thing. Ugh. I'm going to bed.

A little detail shot.

from what i can see in the darkness it looks awesome :)

tell me about it:
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/ott/renders/eisenhowerwip6.jpg) thanks god you can hide the details in the viewports with greeble, I tried with them shown, was terrible ( btw, about 1 500 000 polys on this one ).
-
Why don't you just hide things. I'm sure MAX allows you to selectively ignore objects from viewports. Keep an object list open and just hide everything that's inactive.

:eek2: :eek2: @ venom & stryke
Ugly ships rock!

that's what I do :p
analazon: mine's a station, not a ship.

Speaking of MAX, I think mine just died permenantly and took half of my processor with it.
Note to MAXers: When Greeble'ing, ALWAYS make sure you deleted that extra 0 in the density box.
I accidentally set it to 100 on a 144 poly plane. Poor, poor processor.

Allow me one question..what is greebling?

small thingies on the hulls of models, for example satellite dishes, pipelines, etcetera.

Is there a plug in or something that makes such things for you or did you make them all step by step?
-
Me, I made mine. Venom used the Greeble plugin for MAX, which puts in "random" squares over a mesh. It's generally not recommended, apparently, because it's fairly obvious when something used the plugin.
And you don't get anything other than cubes.
-
Fetty: you can see pretty much all of it. It actually just ends at those big support bars, because I didn't know what to add below it and at any rate it was going too slow to do much by that point.
1.6 mil, something like that. And unfinished, too- most of that's the detailing on the cargo pallets and some of the side support.
Woulda been pretty cool if it worked at a decent speed. I got these little functional loading cranes on the bottom and everything.
-
Since I don't know how to make a plugin myself would you provide/release your selfmade plugin StrykeIX???
-
1. I meant, I make my own greebles. The scaffold and such were mesh models I DXFed and archived for future use. And since I use a program none of you all have, it wouldn't do a lot of good, anyway.;)
-
What program do you use that you think nobody else use it.
-
Ray Dream Studio.

There's other shapes than cubes, but there's still not enough randomness. Anyway, for that mesh it did exactly what I wanted so it's fine.

Hey Stryke, is that first pic the whole freighter, or is it sitting in a dry-dock? It doesn't look too bad... has it got any guns? :D
Oh, and Venom, the station's nice. I haven't said I liked a station since B4. :D

Such as it is, it's the whole one. I guess the lower struts are there for docking purposes or something, though I'll have to figure out how- if it lands on those, it'd probably obstruct the loading cranes I have on the bottom. And no, it's unarmed- if necessary, an escort can be included (it'd reasonably tough), but there'd be little need, most of the time.
