Why is the Hatshepsut destroyer the only ship in the game to have a bridge subsystem? even then when you destroy it nowt happens which is a shame cos it would be cool when you destroy it the ship can't function properly due to lack of a command staff.

I vaguely remember one of the ships in FS1 having a bridge..

I don't see why a bridge should be that close to the hull anyway. I mean, you're not very likely to be looking out of a window, are you?

Well wot about the brigde of the enterprise its a dead easy target! look at the enterprise d it had a GLASS roof or dome!!! which is stupid once the shields are gone which was all the time cos it would only need one shot and bang your command staff is dead!! Wot i was trying to say that why give only one ship a bridge cos i think it would be useful in missions where you where trying to capture a ship or destroy it, without a command staff the ship would really be easy pickins for the attacker.

And if you're going to put your bridge in plain view, please, PLEASE make the REAL bridge somewhere else.

Anyway, there are only two subsystems that are actually hardcoded to do stuff in game if you destroy them - engines, obviously, disable the ship; weapons, IIRC, reduces the accuracy of turrets.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

That's the idea behind the Battle Bridge. And anyway, that's not glass, because glass would be melted in the scene where the saucer smashes into Viridian III while entering the atmosphere. Instead, it just get ripped off at the very end for the cinematic effect  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

reduce accuracy??? one of my ships got its weaponms taken out and it could aim!!! it just shot in every direction it could!! a medical ship blew it up!

Weapons subsystem has no appreciable effect on capships- just like sensors, comm, and the rest of the stuff that actually does something on fighters.
