Title: mouse problems with FS I
Post by: rishi on January 16, 2003, 11:17:26 pm
The installation of FSI went fine but when I try and use the mouse in the setup screen, 9/10 times I can't get it to work. I have to restart the computer in order to exit the game. Once I get into the game, again the mouse doesn't work and yes it is enabled in the setup screen. I've uninstalled it twice and have downloaded the patch. I've also turned off my virus software. FS II works fine.

PIII 933
NVIDIA GeForce 2
USB mouse

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

Richard

That is indeed odd.  Full system specs would help us figure out what's going on.  I can tell you right now it isn't the graphics card or the processor, but otherwise it's difficult to say.  It may be OS related, or a problem with the mouse; you may look for patches/new drivers on those.  Also, have you tried unplugging every USB device except the keyboard (if applicable) and mouse?  I've heard of some strange conflicts that can occur with USB devices and they are really difficult to spot.

EDIT: and does the mouse fail completely before or after the start of a mission (i.e. still work in the main hall but stop working in game)?  And do keyboard commands work when the mouse is frozen?  Just more details that would be most helpful in finding the bug.

If the mouse doesn't work, but keyboard does, it sounds like you might be too on memory...

Thank you for the quick reply. I unplugged all the USB devices except the mouse and keyboard. No change. The mouse does not work properly in the hall. The keyboard does not work properly either. I don't think it has to do with the mouse being frozen. Both of these devices work intermittantly probaly 1/15 clicks. I usually restart the computer due to frustration.

This is a very perverse problem... what OS are you running?

Welcome, btw.

Did you try and use an PS2 mouse. together with maybe, a ps2 keyboard. just to see if USB is the problem.

fs1 was developed before USB really got introduced.
