Stumbled across this: UFO: Aftermath (http://www.computergames.ro/articole.php?optiune=show_interviews&interview=33)
X-COM Lives!! w00t! :p
-
Cool, I've loved the two first games, and there's definitively a feeling of those opus in this one by the look of the screenshots ( tho it's not very beautiful ). That simultaneous turned based thinguy sounds an awful lot like how it was n the old bugwar, which is a good thing :).
Let's wait and see how this will turn out.
Btw, was that Xcom FPS cancelled?

I dunno... I didn't hear about it (or if I did, I forgot :p).

it was quite some time ago, at least 1 or two years ago. you were supposed to be allied with the sectoids, and you were controlling a team of marines. It's so old now I guess that's been a while ince it has been trashed anyway.

More X-Com series? Bah. X-Com sucks.
j/k, actually those were awesome, and I played them a lot. I will be sure to buy that game if it's good, like it's earlier versions.

cool, thank you, in the list there's one single russian site that talks about the FPS  in russian of course :D

w00t! Damn, I loved that game... hope this one keeps the spirit of the original.
:)

afaik there was an xcom fps, xcom:alliance which was canceled
also there was an x:com 3rd person shooter called x:com enforecer, which was released, but was very arcady
this game is the spiritual succesor of something:freedom ridge being developed by mythos games. it was canceled and i think this is the game that was salvaged
hehe i know alot for a game that doesnt even interest me
-
yeah, enforcer was crap, took me and a friend all of about five hours to beat the whole game, and it gave both of us very bad headaches casue it was so fast-paced...
alliace looked like it was going to rule, but then they cancelled it, without even releasing a demo, which really sucks,c ause it looked sooo cool...
and if you want something to satisfy the itch that only turn based strategy games can scratch until aftermath comes out, have a look at www.lasersquadnemesis.com which is made by the same people who did X-com (gollop bros.) :D

X-Com: Alliance is the first person shooter that was set to be based on the Unreal engine. Though it was set back and 'cancelled' twice, although technically the game is just 'on hold'
X-Com: Enforcer was the game that was rapidly churned out in time for christmas the other year when Alliance fell through and didn't complete it's full fun.
X-Com: Genesis was also cancelled. This was to be a 3D major updated twist of the original X-Com: UFO Defence game, UFO: Enemy Unknown to those outside the US (this is where the UFO: Aftermath thing starts).
You can find screenshots of Genesis at the XCommand site here... http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~xcom/x6x5.shtml
And also at Ben Clowards personal website (he worked on Genesis) found here... http://www.monitorstudios.com/bcloward/port_xcom.html
Regarding UFO: Aftermath, technically this game isn't part of the X-COM series. X-Com is owned by Infogrames while Mythos games held the UFO title copyrights which was thought wouldn't be needed in future. while Aftermath is supposed to be a sequil to the original UFO (XCOM 1) it technically isn't part of the X-Com series. But it looks like it has a lot of potential, and I for one am looking forward to getting my hands on this game.
And before anyone asks, yes I am an avid X-Com fan :p

Same here.

I remember my old Pentium 75 MHz. It was just below the top of the line, which was the 90 :p
I wonder if it is still rotting in the basement?
-
I (er... I mean, Styxx) used to have a 90! It probably still works.
-
yeah, well, i used to have a 60, back when they cost 2600$ and now it sits in my grandma's living room where she plays mahjong on it once or twice a week, when she's felling adventurous...
oh, and the other thing: Firaxis now owns the X-com license, ig sold it back in august, along with a few others, i'm not sure which... here's a link to the gamespy article: http://www.gamespy.com/articles/august02/gencon/meier/index.shtml
