Title: Star Wars render
Post by: Razor on January 17, 2003, 12:21:44 pm
It's been a long time since I "rendered" anything. Now here is one with a SW theme. Please post your opinions, suggestions and such. This is actually one of my first 3d images.

Yip, fighters are good, but needs some weapons fire and better textures for the 'star blob'

Edit: Woo! 500 posts

The "Blob" ( Even though it doesn't look anything like it) is the Dauntless. I didn't get better maps than those and if you were unable to notice it looks that way because the camera was close to it so that it would capture the chase between the two fighters. Do I have to explain everything in detail here?

Weapon fire can be done, but I need more practice on that one. Anything else I should fix about this render?

yeah, the stars: they are too big ( some really are huge ), and there's too many of them.
Otherwise, the usual: motion blur on either the fighters ( if the camera is stationary ) or the dauntless ( if the camera follows the fighters, which would be a good way to "hide" the low resolution of the capship textures ). Also, try to focus more on the scene: there's a lot of useless space in the render, the eye will focus on the tie fighter, and everything else is then too far away from that "central" point.

Mon call is messed up.

The command towers look more like a Pecan on top of a pillar.

stars are the only thing you need to fix. make them smaller and make more of them.

Did you make the models yourself or did you just put everything in place?

Ehhh He said it was a Dauntless class....not a Mon Cal

For the Fighters, if they're just downloaded ones or game models, i'd say grab the TIE and X Wing from theforce.net, hellishly more detailed ;)

Layout,..I'd twist the X Wing a bit clockwise. As it is currently it's not aimed at the TIE but giving it a roll would have it appear as the X Wing's rolling back into a line-of-fire with the TIE.

Sorry, but I didn't make the models. Tie is not from the force net but X Wingy is. The one that I have isn't really good so I took this one. The Dauntless is also not my work so I suppose I should credit the creators. :o However, the render is my work.

What? Did you think that I scraped this one off from someone else?

That Mon Cal...or whatever you call it, is farking huge!

Other than that it looks good!

Now...is someone gonna make the ISSD Eclipse? If they do, I want to see a custom DS Superlaser on it!

(Sorry, me big SWs fan)

The Dauntless is a class of Mon Calamari Star Cruiser. If you don't beleive me, look to the back of the ship.

Now where he found the dauntless remains to be seen. AFAIk it was only in SW Rebbellion.

Hey dude, that's looking nice. :) I like your angle on the Dauntless, but with a model with textures like that, I probably would have composed it to be further from the ship, or used more varied lighting, to disguise the texes. The Tie looks great, though; I'd probably add a glint from the local star on the canopy, but that's just me. :D Great work, keep at it!

The maps on the D aren't too good, but I have an idea oh now to make them better. Of course, I would need to tweak the maps a bit (make them hi-res or change format), but it can be done. It's not impossible.

About the glint. Are you talking about adding sun bursts or something? Ouch. That's a bit nasty job (lens flares are a pain for the eyes) but maybe it can be fixed with some Gamma correction and makeup.

I just made a new render with a different angle, but the ships are still the same. I also made a new, better starfield, but I will post that later.

One more question though. How do you make axion(sp) glows. You know, like those glows in FS. Can it be done with Photoshop or PSP?

By the way, Setekh, when's the next render comming?

yeah, A lot of people say Rebellion was one of the worst SW games out there.

I thought so too, for the first 6 months I had it, then I learned how to play it and Love it ever since. I only wish that the game was harder.

I was thinking the game would be more like ST: Armada then a "tactical sim" were it just calculated data and gave results lol
