Post by: Joey_21 on January 22, 2003, 04:05:17 pm
I'm curious - what do you guys play? Post pics please. :)

This is my first guitar, the Ibanez GRX20.

My camera's in the shop. :(

I, however, play a heavily modded Pearl drumset with Zildjian symbols

My guitar be my baby.

The amp is a little different, not sure if it's the angle of the pic or what but it's not as tall but a bit wider. Gorgeous sound though. Valves = teh yummy.

Oh and various pedals, a zoom 505, a danelectro "grilled cheese" distortion and "pastrami" overdrive as well as a bog standard compressor.

Very nice

I own 3 pedals, myself: danelectro black coffee distortion and pastrami, and 1 DOD pedal: grunge distortion

I play a very plain acoustic guitar. I'm tired after a long day, so I'll upload pics tomorrow afternoon. ;)

Btw, nice electric - how much did that thing cost you?

Me plays this:

'tis a custom built jobbie I made a while back.
Other guitars:

Olympic white 1968 reissue stratocaster (like the one Mr. Hendrix played)
One custom Westbury with a 1958 gibson les paul bridge humbucker.
One Takamine acoustic and one yamaha acoustic.
The amp we use is a 100 watt musicman.

As for pedals, I build my own 'cos it's more fun.

A Fender Strat with a Peevy practise amp.

My brother plays a modded Pearl drumkit with the heaviest skins you can get hold of (he's into metal).

Currently my best "instrument" is my voice, although its not exceptional by any means.

I had to sell my acoustic to afford a plane ticket to Vancouver....
not that I could play it well anyway... meh...

The Ibanez GRX20 costs a little over $160 USD and I've had it for 2 years and 3 days already. :D

I did have an Ibanez RG550 at one point, but I didn't really like it. I got my maverick in July, I love it, plays like a dream, sounds fantastic and it was relatively cheap.

Just wish I could play it :).

Need to get a new cheap guitar to thrash around with.

01010: On music123.com I thought I saw some really cheap, full sized, 6-string electric guitars for under $100 USD.

Maeglamor: I'm not really that involved in electronics but would you mind sharing your pedal-building secrets with us anyway? :D

venom: Nice guitar. I'd really like to own one of those one of these days. I know I could get it for cheap somewhere online but when I got money for a 7-string I just could resist. ;)

you do realize of course that TRUE guitarists don't rely on pedals and fancy effects, they rely on their skill to make what they play sound good.

:D :p

just kidding, even i use pedals and stuff occasionally

Well, even if so the previous were true, the 'flavor' wouldn't fit. I HAVE TO have my grunge because built-in distortion just doesn't cut it. :) Flavor is unalterable by the master. For example: If I used vintage distortion while ripping out nu-metal tunes it would sound yuck. :ick

My grunge pedal is the pedal I use on a daily basis. I haven't used any of my others in a while. ;)

hey thanks. I bought the warlock mainly coz it looked so cool. Mine's a limited edition :) On a side note, she is very difficult to play coz the ... stick (?) is bent, and it costs a fortune to replace it.
anyway, back when I bought it, my skills with a guitar were so so, and now I've lost it all. My teacher was never here, always on tours and stuff, so I finally gave up. Couldn't get myself to start again now, it's too late, don't feel like playing the rockstar anymore :p.

Looks cool indeed. Are you referring to the whammy bar or the neck?

I learned by myself and built my own method of playing. I didn't know of any teachers who could play in the style I wanted to learn so I just fooled around with it by myself until I could play anything I sat down with and tried to learn. :)

the neck I guess. the long bar that takes half the lengh of the guitar :p
well, I guess if the will is there, you can learn by yourself ( many famous guitarists did, after all ), sadly, I've lost the will lng ago. Now my warlock ( I love the name :D ) is just in my room coz it looks so cool, and coz once in a while one of my friends plays with it ( and he's damn good, his band will record a CD soon ), so that's a pleasure to see my guitar play good once in a while .
