ok say i wanted to change the Capital4 map on the Hecate i would normally just get the texture.pcx i want rename it to capital 4 that would change it but would also change it for every other ship thats uses that capital4 texture. want i want to do is re-name the capital4 to something else eg Kaptial4 on the Hecate pof so that it dosen't effect the textures on any other ship. does this make any sense or am i just talkin crap???

Have you heard of a magical little program called "MODELVIEW32"?  It works like a charm.

yes i've got the latest version and it won't let me save them as a fs2 model but only as a FS1 pof even then it always seems to corrupt the pof's when i try and save them

To save the POF into a Freespace 2 POF:

1. Open up the editor.
2. Go to "Menu>Editor>Save as Freespace 2 Model..."

Hope that helped. ;)

Guys, he's asking for a Hex editor so he can change the hex lines of the POF's code to reference a new skin. This will allow him to use a new reskinned and different model of the ship while still having the original one available to him.

Sorry bud. I can't get you AXE as I have been unsuccessful in locating it myself. You can try to find other hex editing software on the net at http://www.tucows.com, OR you can send the model to me at [email protected] and I can do it for you.

or you could use one of the many POF editors...
like PCS,
or even FSMM2,
hell if you could find it selugtouch could probly do that without screwing up too bad

I heard PCS was really hard to use, thus I have avoided it like the plague.

With HexEdit32 I could do it in 20 seconds. No kidding. I've timed it.

Hey Bob, would you have links for PCS and FSMM2?

That's because it's already a FS2 Pof - just exit the pof editor and it should save no worries - I do it all the time. If it's stiull corrupting it - reinstall and/or redownload MV32.
