Firing rapid fire dumbfires....
pointless, great, or just plain stupid?
(oh, and it's on the rear, much the same as jonskowitz's A-36 (?) bomber)

i did that whit a Medusa and it was a overkill...Absolutly not good balanced heck i could kill the entire shivan armada whit it whit out fireing my missile's or lasers.

Possibly make a custom missle that had either slow refire rate or very low damage.

Well, it'll definately have a turret... Raven has finished the Raptor cannon, which is basically a rapid-fire gatling laser thing, so it might use that.

hmm, a gatling cannon. good idea, i'd use it, if I still had FS2 on my comp (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) I can't fit both SC and FS2 until I get a new computer.

Kids the Gatlin Laser is WAY OLD school....I DLed it ummm...a year and a half ago and got the Ok to use it in GOTP (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
If I dig around the bowels of my two HDs I might find the orginal zip for info if yall want it...it was on VW back then.

Well, for more firepower, how about turrets that only have an fov to fire directly in front of the ship to suppliment the regular payload? As if there was a copilot handling things too.

ya see hes including it in a MOD - its not a complete MOD - I have a automatic slug launcher (slug = model of course) it does low damage but fits into the storyline.

Basically. That and maybe you shouldn't get killed from ONE missile hit (or at least make the Chinese missiles less than 100% accurate) Other than that and a few minor issues, good conv, nice ships, etc.

Oh, and MAKE FRIGGIN SUBSPACE WORK!!! Or at least redalert the missions when the objectives are complete.

But subspace DOES work, it's just that ship's bleed off speed relatively slowly. What I do is chop the throttle to zero after I'm done and wait for the speed to drop to around 50, then I hit subspace.
*sigh* It's a shame that there's no other way to end a mission besides RA and jumping. RA isn't really an option since it doesn't give you your mission debreifing.

Hell yeah! Reminds me of Playing Judas, how Rama wing finds you just before you're allowed to jump out. I knew I'd be toast if any of those missile caught me, and try as I might, I just couldn't make my ship shake the annoying way the AI does. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Hmph. 12 countermeasures and a (literally) unmaneuverable ship are not conducive to missile evasion. Those things make Ursas look good- aspect missile heaven. The countermeasures I never learned to use effectively anyhow, but I should be able to dodge the damn things until they run out of range!

I've never had any issues with beating 'playing judas'.
In fact After scanning everything I managed to destroy one of the cain's and a freighter.
Of course, I failed the mission because I was discovered.

Does it seem reasonable to you that a 30 ton fighter should be capable of out-maneuvering a 700 pound missile that was (I might add) specifically designed to destroy that kind of ship? If you can't use CMs correctly then maybe you should practice using them until you become proficient with them instead of complaining whenever you get slain. Yes, actually. I've got the brains and the afterburners. But that's beside the point. Say you use one CM per missile (I use between 2 and 5, and I suspect I'm not alone here, at least at the low end). That's 12 missiles you can ideally dodge. Which comes to maybe half of what is thrown at you in some of those "training missions".

That's technically true... and at the same time not. When the computef fires on you they launch in droves, so you're technically dodging two or three missiles at a time.
But since outflying the things isn't an option I think I will increase CM payload. (that's why we playtest things (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)) Thanks for the input Stryke.
BTW- try dodging missiles in an A-36... no AB (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)
