I wonder how much trouble we would be in if somehow, the whole net just suffered a catastrophic failure and internet communication just broke down. Like, say, if some guys decided to destroy all the major servers and inter-continental pipelines.

****ing marvelous.
*waits for CNN to announce an expansion of scope for the War On Terror*

My ISP went down as well around 1am....
-
So it's not all bad news then.
-
Volition Watch has been down for me for over 24 hours now...and several other sites seem to be going between online and offline.
-
Hmph. Thought it was my DSL line going bad.

Sounds like someone's been taking Tracer Tong's instructions a little too seriously.

Sorry about that guys, I didn't mean for that program to get loose. It took a while for me to encourage it to gather into a single machine, then format the drive with a shotgun, but I got it, so you shouldn't have any more problems.
I really need to stop making possecessed programs.

Driverheaven (http://www.driverheaven.net)
There appears to be a Microsoft SQL Monitor worm spreading. Massive UDP traffic on port 1434 is affecting major internet backbones, including UUNET. Of course, servers and home users are being flooded as well. Many websites are currently inaccessible or slow, depending on your location and ISP.
Warp2Search (http://www.warp2search.net)
The SQL worm attack began Friday. It's sort of DoS'ing port 1434. Affected software is Microsoft SQL Server 2000 as to be read in this CERT/CC bulletin (http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/370308). Affected users and server administrators are advised to shut down servers and install this this security patch (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS02-039.asp) or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 SP3 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9032f608-160a-4537-a2b6-4cb265b80766&DisplayLang=en#filelist) immediately. After patching SQL should run normally.
Didn't we learn anything from CodeRed issue? When there's a security patch, admins should also install it.

Yeah the sorcery server suffered from the DoS attack too... freakish thing, I first thought it was a normal netsplit then the global announcement came and said "denial of service attack blah blah blah blah"
