Title: Errrrr....a little help?
Post by: pyro-manic on January 25, 2003, 09:26:00 am
WHA'???

I'm a wee bit confused by all this SCP stuff.  I really want to get it to work, but I don't know what the 'ell's going on.  There seems to be an awful lot of bits of code and jargon flying around on the forums, none of which I understand (having no knowledge of coding whatsoever), so this is a plea on behalf of myself and anyone else with the same problem:

How does it work?

I could do with a step-by-step guide to getting fs2_open working and useable.  For example: how to get it to work at all; what it does that's better than normal fs2; what extra features are included and how to work them; and anything else that's relevant.

Cheers, people!:)

well asuming you have _NO_ mods instaled you simply place the exe into you're FS folder and run it, more likely than not you will see little or no diference becase most of the changes have been designed to not change the origonal campain, the easiest thing you could do is geting the glowmapping enabled were all you have to do is download the glowmap pack (don't remember exactly were I put it off hand) and unzip it into the maps folder, most other changes would require table or POF editing

Yup, did that! Stuck the .exe and the warp.pof files in \games\FS2\, ran them, and nothing!

Screen goes black for a few seconds, then it comes back. An errorlog.txt appears with a load of info - the gist of it is that the "FS2_open.exe caused an access violation in 001b:ffffffff".  It also gives lists details of a stack dump, and a list of programs running (looks like the contents of the taskmanager when you press ctrl-alt-delete, all the background windows stuff) with their time stamps, etc.  Basic'ly, it don't work.

I don't know what causes all this, but the same thing happens with the fred_open.exe as well.  Any ideas? I haven't a clue when it comes to this sort of stuff.

PS. Does it matter if the game is patched or not? I'm patched to v1.2, but I'm not aware of any newer ones.

Dammit, sorry 'bout that. I've got it working now. 3D warp vortex is cool!
