Just wondering if any one has though about doing this?. I own the game and love it.
I think it wld look really gud in FS with the SCP work that has been done.
(Dont eat me if this a bad idea)

(Edit: Was this the right place to post this?)

yeah, right place.
anyway, there's a lot of TC that would be great, sadly, there's not enough people to make them :(
-
Im willing to some of the work, if some one cld point me in the direction of some tutorials and a free modeling program.
(i have a copy of Truespace2 some where around here)
Also, i have the PACK extracter for the game, but as of yet i cant get it to work :(.
and the instructions for it aint very helpful.

My FAQ pretty much should have all the links to all the tutorials and programs you need to get started.
-
Thnk u very much!
all i need to do now is find a moddeling program (heard Truespace hard to model in?) then i will make an attempt at the Terran Corvette if i cant get this unpacker to work rite.

For a TC you sometimes can just get models out of the game you are trying to convert, and somehow get them to .cob format.

I use TS4. It isn`t that bad but there is much better out there. If you check the FAQ I`ve got a link to a free copy of TS2.

I'm kind of hesitant in suggesting this but GMax is very easy to get the hang of, and it's free. The only problem is that you can only get the models out by converting to md3 (Quake 3 format) and then reconverting to .cob or whatever. Needless to say, that presents a whole host of problems - I've had some OK models become absolutely useless after GMax decided it didn't like me and refused to give me anything but a mess of shards o' death post conversion (In Deep Exploration, not in game).
That said, I have heard tell of a guy working on a direct gmax to 3dsmax exporter, which would undoubtedly make the whole process much simpler.

the pb is most likely the converter, no?

The export is easily screwed up actually - you can use some modifiers, but not others

ah, but of course. collapse the mesh before exporting.
-
Yeah, I read that on a GMax forum somewhere and I tried it - didn't fix this particular mesh - I think it has to do with UV mapping, but I'm not certain. Either way, until I get better at modelling, it's not an issue for me - none of my models have yet been good enough to see the light of the Freespace sun.
And Karma, I'll try to keep you guys informed, but You now know as much as I do - all I know is what I read on a site I've since lost the URL to. But I'll look for it again.

Reply to Hades:
I do have an extractor for getting stuff out the games .dat files... only problem is i cant get the smegging thing to work. tried many ways.
am gonna look at the Fever pitch studios website, they released the mod pack, so they might be able to help me out (is hoping they will)
Edit: Found an "extractor" and extracted the objects.dat.... NEVA AGAIN! i extracted it to one of my 2GB drives.. filled it, and was still wanting to extract. I might give it another go later.

Dosn't that game have really low poly models (cos its a stratergy game?) Or am I mistaken?
-
It does, or u wldn't have like 100 ships or so on screen at one time. Had that once when i played it online. (i lost the battle, always do lol) But so far i've found no way of extracting the models.
So giving up is wat im considering. The game it's self isn't very moddable, and from wot i can tell the community has all but died out. (Most websites for it are gone)
Ah well, still a kool strat game!

Well there is one other way you can do it... remake them.... so who wants to remake a game? ( I would do it but heh..... I got me TC to do already..... nearly the same as making a game)
