The parts. They're through. Kalfireth is a happy bunny. Ownage is imminent, all I need is time with a screwdriver and some thermal paste. This is going to rock.
Now, guess what I'm talking about - then let me gloat some ;)
-
Uh oh..
You know the second he has power to it and plugs it in, half the block will go up in flames.
-
sounds like a case mod with a 1337 cooling system
-
Guess you're building a comp...
-
rememer to plug the power into the motherboard right ;)

Thunder's finally run out of meds! Oo;; Duck for cover!
-
*paranoid mode activated* Ahhhh! Thunder's preparing the system to run his matrix program!
The actions of the past few days are nothing but The Plan™, may Kalfireth have mercy on our souls.
I spelled his name right!!!! *self-confidence dance*
Speaking of that...I have a five year old system...do museums take things this old? :)

Didnt that blue's clues guy die from a drug overdose?
-
You'd think so, but I had the new one in mind.

son, i've got systems from pre-1997 ;)
-
Pre-95 here.
And one that's three years younger than I am. It doesn't work very well any more.
-
got a running anno1994
well i worked 1999 when i last switched it on :D
-
I still have a mac from 1989 (state-of-the-art too: 33mhz, 4mb ram, 200mb hdd, 2x cd drive ;7), but it doesn't work properly anymore. :p
-
33mhz at 1989 :eek2:
-
New computer, case mods, lights, yes.
I'll list the new parts in no particular order that're being put in:
Arctic Silver 3 Thermal Compound
256MB DDR RAM (512 total)
2x Coolermaster 80mm Case Fans (blue LED)
2x Fan grills (meh, I like my fingers. And the case fans.)
1x Aerocooler Phantom heatsink
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
Sunbeam Blue Cold Cathode
Chaintech Zenith 7NJS Motherboard (onboard 8x AGP - woo!)
Unfortunately I've got to back this system up first, then make sure that I've got everything I need for a rapid install later - since I'm doing a fair bit of work on the computer the moment and can't do without it. So the mods will have to wait.
Either way, "w00t!"

*Is extremely jealous*
*kicks his Celeron 600*

Talk about overcompensation...

:wtf: I thought Stryke was doing that.
anyway,
*heads for bomb-shelter*
btw, what graphics card?
-
Ti 4600, IIRC.
-
Yep :)
And Styxx... there's another good reason that supercedes yours...
Because I can.
-
Damn, only thing that beats mine. (Ti4200 here)
-
I've been doing a few case mods myself, cut a hole for a fan in the top, and drilled some extra holes in the front, its looking quite funky. The fans are 80mm Tri-coloured LEDs so they are quite pretty.
I have a nice cold cathode blue light, its in the case but I'm yet to engage in some serious power tools and make a window, i've got all the stuff though.
I'll get some photos...

Nope, it doesn't. That would apply if you just got the machine. Gloating about it like this automatically qualifies it for the reason I posted.
;) :D
-
Pats Styxx on the head...
Whatever keeps you happy :)
-
33mhz at 1989 :eek2:
Actually it originally came with a 20mhz processor, since that was the big new thing at the time (:D), but we later upgraded it to 33mhz. (I think it was like that at any rate; I was only 3 years old then :D)
-
w00t cool specs :)
I'm gonna update my system to
A XP1800+
512DDR
soon
at least it's something
-
Case mods? BAH!
Long Live Beige Boxes!
It's all the iMac's fault, you know.
-
Happy... bunny...? :wtf:
Ownage? :wtf:
Those shouldnt go together in the same sentence...
-
ARRGGHH! Thorn! Here! Please, revive TAP, we've gone all despondent again.
-
'Fraid I'm only here for a few hours.....
I dont have net access at home still..
USS Alexander is busy again too... Apparently his job is catching up with him or something...
-
Why don't you just face it - the project is dead. Besides, a project like that needs full dedication. :)
-
[color=66ff00]Jusk remember K, when it's says to boot your machine it doesn't literally mean 'kick it'. ;)

Do you actually plan to use that power for anything? At least I can claim that I use my 2.4 for rendering.
-
my neighbor has a computer that he gets tomorrow that will beat yours Kalfireth.
he spent $2,700.00 just on the case and everything in it... (he had it custom built)
and he has a 19 inch plasma flatscreen monitor
-

I wouldn't be proud of that to be honest :doubt:
-
How much does one really need to spend to have a good game machine that will last a while?
For the longest time I've had an amd 450mhz, GForce 2 MX 32megger, and 384 megs of memory ran on Windows 98. But, I can never play any new games because my system can't handle them.
I'm having troubles with my computer lately, though. I think my motherboard or parts of it are going bad. I just need to get a better system, I think it's time.
So what do you guys recommend that's not going to burn a hole in my pocket?

You sure Stealth it costs that much. I could buy oh...about 8 new cars for that sum... :p
EDIT: oh, my mistake. I though you meant 270000
-
Actually, all the ones I have gotten so far have been in the $3200-3500 range, but that is with the monitor.
I really don't see the point of those flat monitors though. The picture looks the same and they are three times the price of a conventional monitor of the same screen size. :p About the only advantage is that they are not back-breaking to carry, but who really does that so often anyway...
EDIT: oh, my mistake. I though you meant 270000
if I had that kind of money I would buy a mobile crane truck or something... :D

first of all, buy a normal case...

I'd give the money to deaf, one legged jews. :D

This computer is a custom build. I was thinking of building my next one, too. But I don't know if I want to deal with that hassle. I'm thinking of actually buying one... Probably a Dell. But I don't know, I like being able to do whatever I want on the computer and I'm worried a pre-installed system is just going to suck. I remember my only pre-installed desktop was an old packard bell, and you couldn't do a thing to that computer...
I really don't need anything from this old system except the memory (if it's still supported on the new one, which I doubt), and the 30 gig HD. I'll prob sell the GF2 and research what a good vid card is at a good price.
-
Your memory is probably worthless, just like the P3 and the 128MB stick of PC100 I have lying on the floor over there.
For a good fairly cheap video card, you can get a GF4Ti4200 for 120, or a Radeon 8500 for about 70.

Yes. I've discovered a penchant for FPSs, and the cutting edge variety require the latest in PC power to play well. For instance, upping my ram from 256 to 512 chopped my BF1942 map load time from 3 minutes to about 25 seconds. I've yet to try it with the new CPU (the discs are damaged, so I can't check yet).
Either way, it was worth it.

I don't like these guys. Usually they are very...arrogant. "Eeeewww, I see a tiny ant in the other corner of the room. Take it off. Take it off!"

I wouldn't be too proud of that either.

if i had a $2,700.00 computer, i'd be proud of it, whether i'm rich or not rich.
Usually i hate kids like that, but this family's actually cool... they aren't arrogant, and they're very generous with their money.

erm my puter was 3.500 € when it was new :)

HAHAHA! Euros. HAHA!
The euro is just Quake II on its side!
