Title: aldo's F-80 model
Post by: jonskowitz on October 13, 2001, 05:32:00 pm
Sorry aldo, hope you don't mind but I went ahead and recreated the model you posted pics of about a month ago.  I needed it done my the end of this week if I'm going to meet my November deadline for the release of the new demo.

This sucker is first seen in mission 4 "Fall of the Invincible" and again in mission 6 "Riposte".

Hmm, interested in another?  I'll do the skin, but for now you can see the 'raw' model.  As you can tell, it's a rather more 'advanced' design, designed for all-environment work.

Those looks sw33t. Both of them. The F-80 is so detailed - and Shrike, yours looks like a shaved-down B2. Hehe, if that's what you were aiming for.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Beleive it or not, the model for the F-80 is under 400 polies (382 I think...)

Looks neat Shrike.  Uses the airfoil hull theory?  The one thing I would consider doing to it is 'dull' the nose a bit (I know, I've been guilty as all hell for it too  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif) )

Hmmm, I don't have any German, Indian, or Russian stuff yet...  The Russians aren't seen until act III, and the Indians and Germans aren't around until Act IV so there's plenty of time to screw around with stuff.

Yeah, the nose is really the only part that I'm annoyed with.

Can't do it now (I'm on break at work) but when I get home I might do some concept sketches for you.
Check your e-mail in the morning.

Origionally posted by Thorn:
What about Canada

France and Canada exists of course   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)
Origionally when I planned this there was just two sides, east and west and I didn't distinguish between the member states.  This project has grown far beyond that and I don't have anything constructed beyond the basic US and British fighters.  France is part of the European Union thus it stations its squadrons on board the carriers HMS Invincible, the Illustrious, and the Victory.  Canada similarly flys off of the American carriers USS Yorktown, the USS Lexington, the USS Enterprise, the USS Kennedy, the USS Ronald Regan, the USS Forrestal, and of course the USS Ranger.

The reasons the Germans were to be singled out of the EU during act IV is they have just commissioned the Graf Zepplin (which is NOT an EU ship BTW).  I'll have to give more thought to the EU states now that this universe is getting more fleshed out (and more importantly, now that I have contacts outside the USA   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif))

No problem.  I figured that's what happened     (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

This model is just a very basic one (no LODs or dynamic damage model), If you wanted to finish your model whenever you get to it that would be fine.

I'm not planning for a final release date until well into next year so no hurry.

LOL, if you'd been paying attention then you'd know that this conversion takes place in 2179, and has nothing to do with the Freespace universe so    (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

...would be funny to see a 'Spit chasing down a Mara tho    (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)

Cool guys.  Sorry, but I doubt you'll see any of these ships in this campaign (the campaign story is more or less locked down right now), but like I've said there's already a sequel planned.  I'll definately include some (or most) of these in that one.
