Evis loves this new source code. I've used it to recreate a ballistic weapon I originally built waaaaay back in FS1 days.
The General Electric 23mm Chain Gun (GE-23) originally used the hornet model for a projectile and a thin trail and set to a very high rate of fire. It was slung into a secondary slot so that it could use ammo: 2000 rounds on most fighters.
Now, with this new source code, I've made it into a primary, and used .pcx effects to make the gunfire more realistic looking ditching my old method. It still carries 2000 rounds on most fighters, although heavier fighters may carry more ammo. I also cme up with some good gunfire sounds for it and a new impact sound that sounds like bullets pinging off of armor.
All in all, the turnout is greater than my expectations could ever have been 4 years or more ago! Thanks a bunch to the Source Code Team for puttin this out!
Oh, here a Ulyesses fighter of the 43rd Gunfighters squadron fires two GE-23's at Shivan targets.

No download link. Typical. :doubt:

I'm still making some minor tweaks.
Besides, alot of peeps post screenies of stuff they're workin on without making them available at the outset.
-
Yay! Non-SCP people are using special SCP stuff! :D Great work, and thanks for the nice comments.
Post a download as soon as you can - I'd love to see your final result. :)

Meh, I don't agree with the glowage. 'Twould be better if you used a bullet pof.
-
Niiiice. I like this one. When's it going public?
-

Goober did you not expect people to use it who arn't SCP? I added it to my .tbls it as soon as I got 3.4 it works great although the reloding dosn't at the mo (but that might be me???)
Oh and Eviscerator thanks for the idea about the impact sound I just wasn't going to have one for my gamma test thing:yes:
I made a bullet pof for a eriler versioin but it dosn't work as well as a long yellow line (tracers) but I did remove the glow and think it looks much better!

K, well the only thing I've heard about the ammo-based primaries since it was released was that it was too hard to use. ;) Some people couldn't get it to work despite the tutorial.
-
Well, a couple points were left out of the tutorial so you have to common sense read between the lines.
I had a heck of a time until it donned on me that ammunition *must* have a cargo size higher than 0. It doesn't say that in the tutorial but it made sense to me. So I gave a size of 1 and woolaa! It worked.
Anyhow, bullet pof's like I had before didn't look right, and tracers *do* glow in the dark ( I can tell you that after 12 years of military service), and open space is pretty dark, so I think I'll leave the effects as they are.
I'll release as soon as I have the interface art completed.

I hate using bullet .pofs.

Hmm, that's interesting. Thanks. :)

It would A1 SUPER if the SCP guy's would put tracer fire in though. :D
something I suggested btw

It's already been explained in excruciating detail why that would be pointless.
