Title: avatar problems
Post by: Stealth on February 07, 2003, 12:04:14 pm
here at the school computers (where i'm on) they've got "www.3dap.com/" URLs banned, but i can access dynamic4 sites...

now all avatars don't work, because the images are all to "3dap.com/hlp/hosted/images/" or something like that.
the only avatars that i SEE (that aren't broken red 'x' images) are the Full Circle avatars.  why is this?  The Full Circle avatars are on the dynamic4, i know that, which is why they show, but i thought since like a looonnnggg time ago ALL avatars were images on the dynamic4

Haha, I've noticed that too a few years ago. Our school system uses some **** blocking program called Bess or something and it seems to call everything p0rn and games...no matter what it is :)

Same at my hell hole of a school.

However, I am currently at home, and my avatars have gone.

Also, every thread on the whole board has new posts, even if they were years ago.

I can get anywhere from my college computers. I'm not supposed to be able to, but I can :drevil:. Well, there are one or two exceptions but still, for the most-part I can view whatever I please.

scroll over the avatars. you'll see that all of the avatars othr than datDB and Full Cicle are based off the websites on sdap, IIRC.

EDIT: upon further inspection, you answered your own question..

That is why.

And school computers are ****.

yeah i'm sure you can.

there's ways around every block they've got... for instance, they ban www.hotmail.com, but if you go to www.msn.com and click "Hotmail", you can log in :D

Actually, me and Proxy (don't ask) found some ways around the firewall, but then we came up against the little problem that there is ALWAYS one of the IT teachers monitoring site-accesses and banning anything that looks suspicious. So if they saw someone was accessing gaypron.com, banned it then saw someone on it 30 seconds later, they'd know we'd been ****ing with it.

yeah, well the school's new system as of Thursday (when some nerd kid found out how to use netsend and sent stuff all over the school district's computers) we have a new thing... there's someone 24/7 monitoring the sites being viewed... like, i went to www.ebay.com and 10 minutes later it was blocked, same with www.3dap.com/hlp, 10 minutse later it's blocked... so it's pretty strict now, like, they block the word "hotmail" or "ebay" in the URL too i think, so there's no way round it.

it's getting pretty strict, next they'll block the data packets Tribes sends when you play over the networkd :D

It's getting like that here, too. They have blocked downloading of any kind. But, astonishingly have unblocked rathergood, b3ta, and weebls-stuff.

A while back they wiped my user-drive wossname, which meant I lost ALL MY WORK! Just because I had downloaded winzip... and povray, and truespace, and FS2view, and Half Life demo, and doom, and AoE

only thing banned by my school (well not really, banned by the county), is www.lunarstorm.se , a big community with a large userbase of 14-year-olds.

how to get around the block? input ip adress instead of url...
