For the SC mod
I really need someone who could make me a Wireframe pic of the Myrmidon that is still recognizeable at 64 x 64, using two colours only (pure black and pure white). I've been trying, and it's really a lot more difficult than it sounds. It would be used as the damage indicator for SC, so if you've played SC, you know the kind of style we need.
NB, I don't really expect this request to be filled, but I figured I'd exhaust all avenues before one of my crappy ones got put in game.
Thanks.

Render a Myrm in wire-frame witht he width set to something high. Switch the render to an Alpha thingy (black and white). Scale it down.
-
yeah i see what you're getting at... the wire-frame indicator at the bottom middle of the screen.
i have an idea, i'll try when i get home.
(if anyone wants to try now: i was thinking of viewing "wireframe" in modelviewer, then copying to photoshop, deleting everything but the white wireframe, then put it on a black background (what background color and what wireframe color do you want by the way Black Wolf?) of course you can get the Myrmidon in the right position in modelview (using arrow keys) and then you convert it to black and white, which it already should be. i dunno if that's how you want it, i don't know what kind of format it is supposed to be... like, do you want the wireframe a specific color?)

I used the method Stealth mentioned since I no longer have ship models in a useable format. Donno if the quality is worth it or not,..I can barely see the thing lol

Try making the wire-frame width a little less or go play with the Threshold in PSP before scaling it.

Gimme a shot of what the original wireframes look like in SC so I can get an idea what to aim for.
-
How should I know?
I don't even know what SC is, I'm just making artistic suggestions.
-
an0n: SC --> Starcraft
It looks like what Sandwich posted, but not as many 'frames'... only a few, enough to give the shape.
you can see what i'm talking about in the bottom middle of this picture:
it's a green wireframe, but not as intricate as the one you posted Sandwich. is it possible to remove some of the "wire" of the "wireframe" to make it as basic as possible?
Sandwich: how did you get that picture? what method did you use?
-
note that all wireframes in Starcraft are always the camera angle looking from the top-front, and the thing's facing the bottom right... you can see from the above picture
-
Ah. Well that's gonna be really hard to do right. As the triangulation of the FS models means you'll have a hard time trying to get the image to look that clean unless you go over the image by hand and remove all the triangulations.

that's the only method i could think of, but i'd be willing to do it :p
just erase them in Photoshop, takes a steady hand (mouse) and zooming... it'll take a long time, but it won't be hard

How's this?

So far that's the closest to how that Screenshot looks.
-
I tried taking a screenshot of the wireframe in FS view, then a threshold and a re-size. Doesnt work very well, hard to tell what it is. What i recomend is taking a screenshot of the wireframe, then resize it. Draw over the outline and important "framework" on a higher layer in white, delete the screenshot layer and you should have something reasonable.
-
Hmm the simplest really .... get a .COB or 3DS version of it,... and render it as a wire-only. Then you can actually render the image at 64*64 and that might help save some res.
-
I tried that, but I closed MAX before realising the buffer had saved as a coloured JPEG instead of an Alpha map and I couldn't be bothered re-opening MAX.
-
I hate to say this, but you're not gonna get anything much better than what I already did - I went over it and painted out a bunched of the triangulation lines by hand when it was 8 times as big.
-
wow sand...that is niiiice
and your myrmy looks great in the SC screeny!
-
*smack*
Use a LOD! It has less detail but retains the shape.

we're not saying you didn't do good Sandwich, you did awesome, but if you could (if possible) post the .PSD file or a very, very large image, so someone with a lot of time can erase most of the wireframe that'd be great i'm sure :)
GE, what's a LOD? Light Emitting Diode?

i didn't do it by the way, give your credit to Black Wolf... he did it, and yes, he did do an awesome job of it!
For more info, see the STARCRAFT --> FS CONVERSION thread

If you're going to use extended analogies, at least have them make sense. Sticking random words together does not, contrary to popular belief, make you look like you have even a vague understanding of the English language.

is that too far?
Truth be told, Englihs is my 3rt languaeg.

FYI, I tried with an LOD. To get an idea of the kind of results I'd get, look at the LODs in MODELVIEW32 as wireframe - they are nearly unrecognizable. LODs are only good for non-wireframe ships seen from further away, not when you can actually see every little line and polygon.

Aside from the fact that Light Emmiting Detail doesn't even form the Acronym LOD, you'd think him stating he would model ships to FS2 in that other sc thread would make him a bit more knowledgeable upon the matter, but as the seasons change, expectations are shattered like a porcelean vase dropped 16 jaunts from god.
I don't model, i never claimed to model, i never tried to model, etc.
remember, you don't know squat about modding either...

Stealth, what would you do if you joined up? Currently, I think we mainly need 2d sprite makers and wireframe builders (again 2d - by wireframe I mean the damage indicator for Terran ships)

Thank you.

1) I thought I was on your "ignore" list? As i said at the time you said you were going to "ignore" me:
it won't last... i reckon i'll be on it for two days or so, and then you'll "unignore" me, cause you can't resist listening to what i say...
right again i guess...
2) There's a difference making models and converting models.
3) Do you know anything about modelling? i didn't think so...
4) go away, i don't like talking to you!
-
Quit it, both. My fingers are itching for some temporary bannings.

yeah, and please put me on your ignore list, like you said you would.
i don't know how to mod, i know how to convert.. big difference

This is what I get for not lookign at the topic for days :). How did you do it, precisely? We'll need to repeat the feat for all the other ships...

I'll post how in a week - fairly simple, but impossible to automate, unfortunately. And there's that annoying hand-edit-the-extra-tiangulated-polygon-lines stange, but whatever. :)
