Title: are you ready?
Post by: Stealth on February 12, 2003, 01:13:50 pm
i heard US is on red alert, since monday i heard.

that's the second highest level, the next level and the US goes to war

anyone heard more about this?

I thought orange was the second highest? (red is highest)

I don't know why they have this threat level system at all; the common people cannot really do anything about any terrorist attack even if they are informed of it, and it just serves to create unnecessary worrying. :p

Meh. Old news. They turned on the air defences around New York about an hour ago IIHC.

So they'll be at, what, DEFCON 2?

Methinks they're trying to bully France and Germany (and the rest of the UN) into backing down and saving face.

i also heard that they're sending 180,000 soldiers to like some country in the middle east... they're sending them all by civilian airlines, and by the end of the week

I'm with CP..
I probably couldnt do much to stop an attack, so why worry about it? If something does happen then it would have happened anyway. Nothing you can do. Enjoy what you have while it lasts.

...........That is quite possibly the single stupidest thing I have ever heard.

They do realise that they've made civillian aircraft a valid target now, don't they?

i also heard that Korea declared the right to "preemptive" (!?) action (i.e. they can attack a country before the country attacks them... such as attacking the US without any warning or anything)

actually they do that quite often, haven't you heard?  they use that method all over the world, all countries.

why would someone shoot down an aircraft that has the CHANCE of containing a dozen or so soldiers

All the equipment and stuff is still done by military aircraft, but they can't transport 180,000 troops in one week with a few military aircraft, they don't have enough apparently ;)

I hope to God they do.

If America declare war on North Korea, all public support for the war will evapourate instantly.

that's the way i feel too!

as it is enough people (countries particularly) hate the US... and a lot of people in the US are against the war

.......No. That's "Soldiers taking civillian air-lines to get to their new assignment", not "The army putting troops on civillian aircraft and flying them to the target area".

ok, i don't want to turn this in another monkey bashing thread, but oh well:

remember this all IMHO, don't take this as an offence, ok?

the way Bush is handling politics lateley, it won't take long before he's fighting at least two fronts, Iraq and Korea. i late;ey heard something about a large poll in the UK, wich stated that most people tought that bush is the biggest danger for world peace. the said that saddam was a madman, but wasn't a danger for worldpeace.

the way i see it, this is gonna happen:

1) the war in Iraq errupts, big mess al over the place, and a lot of civilians dead.
2) after a few days, about a 100 US  troops get killed, and Bush suddenley looses al support.
3) after all this, the EU drops away from bush, blair stays, and looses all support from the UK population
4) korea yell's something, but is ignored
5) heads start to roll in the US, bush goes down in the war scandal, and takes most of is staff and Blair with him.
6) completely ignored in the begiining, the refugees from northern iraq, die in camps in Turkey, they're mostly Kurds (sp?)
7) EU gives support, lot's of tear asking things in EU TV, the US is to bussy with bush going down
8) korea yell's something, but is ignored again
9) about this time, a lot of people got kiled, are being killed, and are going to get killed. use youre imagination for the rest

just my $0,02, don't take this as an offence, ok?

just my humble opinion, don't take this as =an offence, ok?

meh.

The only thing for me is that if N. Korea tries to pull anything, it probably won't be anywhere near DC or the east coast, which means the west coast in which I am screwed.

On second thought, I doubt you would do anything like nuke a city like San Fran as a preemptive strike.

*dunno what all this color warning junk is about*

Bush aparently spouted some junk about taping up doors with duct tape and plastic to seal and protect the house from biological attack.. :wtf:

Terrorists Threat levels have nothing to do with the DEFCON levels ( I believe we're at 4 right now... 2nd lowest level).  And the military has their own terrorist level.  It's Force Protection level and they're at Bravo... 2nd lowest level.  Highest is Delta.

BTW Anon...  Britain has ALREADY made airliners a target.  How do you think the SAS gets around?  British Airways.
