Title: Who'd be interested in a Rhino FS2 modeling tutorial?
Post by: Sandwich on August 26, 2001, 04:52:00 pm
I'm considering making one, covering the best way to prepare a Rhino model for TS and FS2, as well as the steps needed to be taken in TS. Is there enough interest in this or would there not be many people who'd use Rhino?

Like what?

IMHO, Rhino is the absolute best for pure modeling. But the problematic point is in the conversion from Rhino to TS - how to keep things in sub-groups, how to make it easy to use the auto-turret in Kazan's converter, etc. That's what I want to address in this tutorial, among other stuff.

Ok why is it the 'best'?
milkshape akawys you to texture pretty easily and diffrent groups become subojects ready to be glued to a light and then to the main hulls (they are all glued to first gruop but I like to separate them and make sure anyway)

and it cost $25 or something

Ok, well to be honest I've never heard of MilkShape before, so I can't compare the two. But I find it hard to imagine any program being more intuitive and simple, yet powerful, then Rhino. Try it out ("http://www.rhino3d.com/") for yourself.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

$800 ARRR!!! !!!!
would rather shell out for Max, infact I would rather get them both free.
so $30 is fine for me!

Anyone else?

Maybe you all need to see some proof of what you can easily do in Rhino. Here ("http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/Forum2/HTML/000670.html") and here ("http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/Forum2/HTML/000669.html").  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

a Rhino tutorial would be great!  I've used it for about a year now, and by far it's the best modeling program I've come across.  you can do pretty much anything with it, though it isn't very good for renders or texturing.  actually, I don't even have FS2 installed anymore (damn computer) but I still come here often and tinker around with making a few Rhino-made models here and there.  though I find it easier to work with nurbs than meshes.  they're much more flexible.

The way I think of it is scale by price - scale up Milkshape by $800 or $1500 and you get BIG features!!!! and BIG HCI User Friendlyness!!!!!

I know its flawed but it makes me feel better with my $30 program!

I think a tutorial would be good.  Could you include information in it on how to hack the rhino demo?  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I'd like one. I had the Rhino demo once, and it seemed allright.

I refuse to put such illegal content into my tutorial! How dare you even suggest such a thing?! I'd rather post it here.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

To hack the demo, just go to someplace on the web, download a certain file, and then do something with that file.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Ok, ok - I'm doin' it... Your overwhelming response convinced me.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

I realistically expect it to be ready within the week. And, if I may say so, it is quite high quality.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
