Title: Final animation Character WIP

its just a head right now, but i spent a couple of days on it so far.

most of the "magic" comes from the texture maps, which are 3100xsomethingorother, and could do with being even bigger!

Needs hair and stuff and the diffuse map is just a blown up photo, but i'm not particularly up with photoshop so i'm not aware how to sharpen it up without repainting the entire thing by scratch (not fun using a mouse, not a gfx tablet!)

top of the lips look too...flat?

it's good...but the nose...does look scary...*shudders* :shaking:

Nope, none of the people who posted on this thread have been banned at any point that I can remember.

while I understand online communities that are winding down seem to attract more trolls than the norm, it's usually a bad sign when a former admin turns into one.

Bum comments like that are just pointless, unless you'd care to back it up with some objective analysis of what exactly makes a model of someone I know look like micheal jackson, and then go on to suggest how I can remedy the likeness?

Oh stow the attitude will you, it was a joke - just because I'm a former admin doesn't mean I can't make the same poor jokes that everyone else can. Lighten up.

And indeed, the skin is overly puffy and untextured - it looks moulded from plastic and is way to shiny.

...And you could impale someone on that chin, and the nostrils are practically pointing straight outwards, and the skin texture looks like a bad rash, and the eyes make Dondi look piggy.

Call me a troll, will you.



Anyway. Learn some anatomy, how faces work, think of the design in terms of how the skin will stretch over the skull and how the hell things like the eyes are even gonna fit inside the head, and until you have a less blotchy skin tex (unless that's intentional), use a consistent color and an organic (cellular or equivalent) bump map set on high detail.

when viewing from a distance as this model will be certain details (such as the bump map and specular maps) have to be fairly accentuated so you can still see them.

The nose still requires some work which i've been chipping away at.  the eyes are accurate, although the cheeks could possibly do with protruding a little more, not sure.

a procedural doesn't provide adequate control unless you use a bitmap mask, and if you're going to use a painted mask, why not paint the whole thing?

I dunno, the eyes still look big to me. Which isn't a really big problem, since most art (and "art") featured online has people with eyes the size of hubcaps.

The chin. The chin is scary. Should be more squarish, thicker, and probably jut out a little more, though the last bit is optional. Between the too-turned-up nose and the chin, you've got 90% of your problem- fix those, it'll probably look fine.

Anyways, pull the bottom of the nose (where it meets the face) up, and make it less pointy, at it'll look fine.

About twice as much as you did there, I think, and it'll be all right as far as that goes...

The skin, particularly around the nose area, still looks kinda spotty, but I dunno.

The area arround the nose is fine, but the nose itself and the chin do need work. Something that has helped me out when adding detail to a character is having a photo of a real person as reference.

Difficult to talk anatomy when it's not in your native language ( plus a side and front shot would help a lot ), but I'll try:
the mouth is too... flat? the ends (left/right)should be much on the back compared to the middle, but more like this ] than like this >. rah I don't make sense.

all these people i think its great:yes: I've never use softimage. is it nurbs? also how on earth did you do those eyes? is it just 1 sphere textured or 2?

the eyes are a deformed ball with the eye photo texture, then another smaller ball in front for the cornea, which is transparent and has an IOR of 1.336

Its modelled with subdees/polymesh
