IT'S OUT! IT'S GOOD! IT'S 0WNING MY CASH! WOOT!
Read review at gamespot.
-
WOOT! Time to start my timer then. It'll be here in... 10 billion years
-
Cool. 8.9 out of 10. Looks nice...
-
allready got it ;) stu ToT and any other estonians who read this i have a CD-RW ;)
-
Woa. Me wants it Ashrak. ;)
-
I heard from others that even with a GeForce 3, it will lag like hell at high resolutions.
-
* Kills C&C Generals *
Stupid C&C
<--- am not a Fan of Command and Conqor - those Games Suck major A$$
But the Rest of you, Enjoy your Game :)
-
I enjoyed Red Alert, it felt right - but the others since haven't fired me up enough to buy them. I just don't think I'm a strategy fan.
-
well, it's about like everybody, been disapointed by everything that followed red alert. excepted Firestorm. It turned TS into a very good game. didn't try any of the dune RTS tho, and didn't finish Yuri's revenge ( had pbs with my PC, it's still installed, but don't feel like playing it at all anymore... ).
I'll probably buy General. Probably.
-
errr ulu kuskohas sa elad? linnaosa ??? ja mingi 30 -50 kr läheb plekkima ;)

It seems to push the vid card quite a bit, yes. I run the game with, I think, all details set to max @ 800x600x32(?) bit colours. If I go to 1024x768, the game begins to struggle when things start heating up.

:p Been out sence Wednesday Stu :p
I'm actually going down to best buy after bowling today to buy it. $36 :D
I only hope my computer can ru nit, it's gonna be a tight squeeze even while looking like ****e.
And for the record, the only C&C games I haven't liked so far were Yuri's Revenge and TS
-
Oh, boy, Command and Conquer with better graphics, whoops, I mean C&C: Generals.
Seriously, it's tiring. Get Hegemonia or something, you can probably get it cheaper, and it's a lot better.
-
I am actually quite satisfied with the basic C&C gameplay system at its core, but they need to fix up some of the other stuff; namely, make the SP story as good as the one in the first game, add in some standalone missions in addition to the main campaigns (as in the C&C and RA addon packs), give the skirmish AI a complete overhaul (this is a big one), fix up the multiplayer netcode a bit, and add in some more new game types in the online mode. Also, in my opinion one of the best things about the later C&C games that is especially important to us HLP people is their superb modding capabilities (C&C wasn't too great in this respect, RA was good, TS and RA2 were awesome), and I think Generals will continue this. If they got the AI right this time around, then I will buy it right away, but I'm not too sure of that one considering their record there.
-
How can I buy Generals when Freelancer comes out next month?!?

hey, try general, maybe all this have been done ;)
for now, I only have one grief with this game: the name is dull :p

Seeing as you've seen this thing run, could you give us a guess at base specs for good performance? :)

K, got back, did some fredding, and finally got to play this.
[glow=blue]KT's Command and Conquer Generals Review (after playing the first two missions) [/glow]
first off, I was surprised how much it didn't erk my system. I was afraid I'd have trouble running it, but it worked great on medium quality.
Now game wise.
I'm a bit dissappointed.
The lack of real time cutscenes is gay, but bearable. I thought those were pretty cool, although somewhat corny in TS and RA2, but they added flavor.
Story wise, wtf? There seemed to be almost no back ground other than the intro, which is bassically a bunch of advertising pictures for the game with the carpet bombing catch phrase they have.
I expected there to be some story or something, but instead it just throws me right into the chinese camp.
Gameplay is ok. Units seem pretty basic, nothing special. I did notice a few things that were different from normal CnC games, such as the uber flame tanks that bassically can take down an entire infantry platoon with no problems and the ability to build tanks on the first levels. I haven't seen any really special units yet and I looked at the tech trees and there doesn't seem to be a lot.
Graphics wise, it bassically looks like a modern day Warcraft III with less cartoony scenery. Once again, not all that impressed, lthough for some reason, the gun shots seem kinda kool.
The music so far is unnoticable. I remember the original CnC. Sweetest game music for any computer game back then. Now we are reduced to kinda ambience.
I'm hoping the game will get bette.r It's not bad, could be better though. At least it was only $40
*shrugs*

When you tell how the game runs at XYZ details, could you please tell your computer specs, too (well, at least processor and video card and probably RAM too)? :p

Meh, I was tired. I thought I put it down. :p
Athlon 1600+
Geforce 2
256mb Ram
-
I wonder how well it will run on my machine...
Athlon 1gHZ
512 megs ram
GeForce 2 MX (I think it is MX, might just be a regular GF2 tho...)
-
I have an Athlon 1400, 512mb PC2100 ddr ram and an overclocked Geforce 3; I think it should be acceptable if I tone down the graphics options a bit.
The lack of real time cutscenes is gay, but bearable. I thought those were pretty cool, although somewhat corny in TS and RA2, but they added flavor.
Do you mean the briefings or the action scenes (or both)? The lack of briefings is okay in my opinion - I liked the C&C movies and some of the Firestorm ones, but the rest of the games' cutscenes were mediocre - but the action scenes were quite neat and I remember wanting to finish some of the missions just so I could watch the action movie at the end. :D
Story wise, wtf? There seemed to be almost no back ground other than the intro, which is bassically a bunch of advertising pictures for the game with the carpet bombing catch phrase they have.
What is the story is this anyway? I'm not expecting it as good as the first game, but it should at least be better than their last few efforts.
Gameplay is ok. Units seem pretty basic, nothing special. I did notice a few things that were different from normal CnC games, such as the uber flame tanks that bassically can take down an entire infantry platoon with no problems and the ability to build tanks on the first levels.
That sounds like the flame tank from the first game. :D (the newer Devil's Tongue thing in TS was a piece of junk :p) Are the infantry really powerful (TS) or do they suck (RA) compared to the other stuff in the game?
What is the skirmish AI like? Is he the usual RTS retard or did they make him competent this time around?
Also, are the two sides balanced? C&C had two issues that were easily corrected but upset the balance quite a bit and RA was something of a disaster (especially with aftermath), but I thought that the TS and RA2 balance was almost perfect. What is it like this time?
The music so far is unnoticable. I remember the original CnC. Sweetest game music for any computer game back then. Now we are reduced to kinda ambience.
I liked several of the tracks in C&C (some music tracks were good and some were not, but there were a lot to choose from) and a couple from RA, but didn't find most of the TS or RA2 ones quite that good. Is there no music at all or something?
Graphics wise, it bassically looks like a modern day Warcraft III with less cartoony scenery. Once again, not all that impressed, lthough for some reason, the gun shots seem kinda kool.
I thought that some of the sounds in C&C were fantastic (e.g. the obelisk and AGT firing sounds :D) and RA2 also had some nice ones, but the rest of the games were not all that impressive in this respect.
Anyway, I'm going to wait for some reviews before buying this. ebay is the best place to get it though, since new copies sell for around $30 there.

I mean lack of any movies. I liked the breifing and end cutscene movies from CnC and RA. This one just uses in game cutscenes.
The story is bassically what you see on the back of the box. theres no real beggining intro or cutscene or anything. Theres some chinese milatary parade and some how the terrorist GLA captures chinas nuclear missiles and nukes the parade in bejing. The next two missions are just china killing the nuke stock pile and china killing the biochem stock pile. There's no story. :doubt:
no, this is like an Uber tank. You can make a "wall of fire" where basically it sprays out this continual flame that sets a wide area (like 10 tank widths) on fire so bassically no infantry or anything weak could get through. ITs a great defensive weapon and makes for good tactics, but is hella strong. The GLA have a similar thing except its more like the desolator from RA2
I
haven't tried skirmish yet. AI wise though, pathfinding can be a *****.
Actually each side is kinda unique. China has everything fire. The flame tank, migs dropping napalm, nukes, etc. Their infantry are weaker than normal, but you get two for the price of one (two guys for $300) and they build in pairs, which is nice.
America has the heavy guns. Each of their vehicles such as the humvee and medium tank (paladin I think) have two drones that can be deployed (at cost) and follow them around. One is that unarmed scout plane that they used over afghanistan. It bassically gives the vehicle a larger field of view. The other is a drone that has a weak machine gun and can repair the vehicle. These make the vehicles last a lot longer than normal which is pretty cool. the US also owns the skies with the Auroa bomber, stealth fighter, raptor and Commanche.
The GLA is the terrorist hit and run team. They have suicide bombers and normal infantry that are mediocre. They have a couple things like a truck with a machine gun and the desolator Tractor that I mentioned.
Bassically the faction balance is more like warcraft with each side specializing than it is like previous CnC games where they are more or less balanced.
Music: AFAIK each side only has like 2 music tracks. I can't remember if they had more or not, but i'll go back n' check ina lil bit.
Sound wise, it's not bad. I haven't heard any particularly cool sounds, but the units talk more and so on. I miss the mini gun noise of infantry though :(
Oh, and there's the generals thing. I heard they were going to have a system where you bring the General unit into battle, but i've yet to see such a unit, so i'm guessing they dropped it at beta. anyways, the Generals deal is bassically, the player gets points when they reach a certain kill count or something to that effect and you get to put them to a certain attribute (kinda like adding points to a attribute table thingy in an MMORPG) Some of if is stuff like having your vehicles repair automatically, calling in airstrikes, revealing parts of the map and stuff like that.

*kicks the now dead corpse that is C&C*
Well, Westwood, ah reckon' we keeled 'dat 'ting before it has a chance to be ori-gin-al...
-
Damn, Westwood's like a zombie with a bowel disorder. It doesn't matter that it's dead, it's gonna put out an unbelievable amount of horrible, stinking crap on a regular basis for the forseeable future.:doubt:
-
Westwood = Hasbeens
-
to put an austrailian spin on all of this:
westwood are about "as useful as a one-legged man in an arse-kicking contest"
-
Didnt know that was an Austrailian Sayin  - here it quite abit where i am in the UK
Though my Freind has Said that Generals is better than RA 1 + 2 so it might e Worth alook just for that
-
And HIV is better than ebola. What's your point?

sure it is it's even the the australian slang dictionary (being serious here)
also has a pretty good threat or too.. i won't say 'em here though no context
-
I hate to say it ... but they can't be too horrible .... the C-n-C series out lasted FS so at the very least they've got ppl with a clue on advertising.
I mean ... they've got what ... 6 in the C-n-C series not counting add ons ? Not really all that bad in the scheme of things.

Wam! Bam! Thank you Ma'aM! (http://www.gamespy.com/reviews/february03/ccgeneralspc/)
Bassically, wait till' you can buy it when it's 25 - 30 bucks. Unless you are really picky ;) in which case, it's only been out a week and I'm already downloading patch 1.02! Wheee!!!!
-
Only chance that I'm getting this is when it's in the bin for 7 bucks..... I'm not fishing 50 out for ANOTHER mediocre, uninspired RTS game.
