and ?
Reading that letter,... they're every right to send it.
-
As far as I`m concerned anyone who visits what they think is the white house web site and comes across headlines like
PRESIDENT'S STATEMENT URGING CESSATION OF PUBLIC HYSTERIA IN THE FACE OF AMERICA'S CERTAIN ANNIHILATION BY NUKE POX (http://www.whitehouse.org/news/2003/021303.asp)
or
PRESIDENT WELCOMES BOYS SCOUTS OF AMERICA DELEGATION TO REVIEW ANNUAL ADVANCEMENTS IN PARAMILITARY FAGGOTRY REPRESSION (http://www.whitehouse.org/news/2003/021103.asp)
And still fails to realise that they are at a satirical website instead of the real white house website really needs a better understanding of the net's hierachy very quickly.
-
Pfff. It's a parody and as such is protected under the constitution.
Hell, it probably falls the under basic freedoms of speech and press too.
But the thing that really surprises me is that they recognise that fact and with the exception of the thing about the Presidential Seal (which I suppose is fair enough), they don't seem to have a problem with the website in general.
Basically it's a formal "Please remove the stuff as it's not nice".
I'm rather impressed with Cheney for not having his lackeys go around making threats.

SUBJECT = [none]
NAME = Lisa Clark
E-MAIL = [email protected]
MESSAGE = I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD TELL YOU, THAT THE DISCUSTING FORM LETTER THAT I RECIEVED FROM MY CARING AND SERIOUS E-MAIL THAT I SENT YOU A FEW DAYS AGO WILL BE SENT TO MY CONGRESSMAN AND GOVENER AND LOCAL NEWS PAPERS THROUGHOUT KENTUCKY AND TENNESSEE, I WAS APAULED AT THE REPLY THAT I WAS GIVEN. I THINK THAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW WHAT KIND OF PRESIDENT WE HAVE, AND WE ALL EXPECTED A LITTLE BIT MORE THAN THE UNPROFESSIONEL RESPONCE THAT I RECIEVED DO TO THE FACT THAT MY HUSBAND IS LAYING HIS LIFE ON THE LINE FOR YOUR FINICIAL BENIFIT.
SINCERLY YOURS,
LISA CLARK
TN. NATIONAL GUARD WIFE
God, I hope this is a joke.
SUBJECT = yea!
NAME = ian

Parody or not, does seem they're on fairly good legal footing with it. And to me doesn't seem that bad a request.

They're getting rid of that little inconvenience commonly referred to as the "Bill of Rights", I believe, have been doing it for a year.
And the threat is actually pretty explicit. Take it down or we sue.
But yeah, actually, the government has no claim to lawsuit here- it's explicitly a satire site, and they're within the law. Whether that stops the government remains to be seen.
-
They'll probably declare it to be terrorist sadition and bomb the servers.

:lol: Part of the cyber-warfare programme, eh? Actually wait... thats real... ooooh ****... :nervous:
-
You know what it really is- judging from the reader mail, Bush has realized that the site is making him lose his key moron demographic (you know, the guys who managed to "accidentially" vote for the wrong person, or indeed vote Bush in the first place. Or Gore, for that matter.), and has thus decided to shut the site down on some trumped-up charges.:D
-
Actually it only said CERTAIN aspects must go:
ie:
Seal of the President.
The parts bout Mrs. Cheney (And stated that the link to the disclaimor wasn't properly displayed etc)
and made an abstract comment about them stating the site's not for kids yet having a kids only link.
Notice ... no where in that letter (real or not) does it demand the entire site come off line.
-
And to that Cyber warfare ****... it has been around for a decade of more... now Bush is just limiting it. So you're disagreeing with the idea of putting limitations on something? funny.
-
Dick Cheney still exists? :nervous: :eek2:

I think wasting your time, writing BS about your own government should have u shot in the big toe. Its almost a form of traitorism, but in a funny kind of way of course.
If that dude gets to keep the presidential seal on his site, then im stealing the EA logo and making a joke site on them, and how they support there games. If they can use the seal, then i can use HLP's logo, EA's logo, and many other famous logos, make fun of them. As long as my tiny size 1 font disclaimer is at the very bottom of the page where no one clicks NO ONE CAN STOP ME! HAHAHAHAHA
Joke, I wouldnt stop that low, besides i got Photoshop 7 and some creativity, who needs the presidential seal.
dsiclaimer: im not responsible for anything i write or think, blame god.

LOL, sure he is. Look it all the BS i wrote above. However discrediting, and even giving the impersonation it is an official site is wrong. Even though to us Net guru's its obvious that site is not the real government site, its true alot of dummies are in the world and might think it is the official site which would affect public opinion. The Website Admin should not use the presidential seal, and possibly make a disclaimer right on the index page so big its impossible to miss.
Where is the last guy who screwed with the US governement? Buried? Jailed?
-
No I think we elected him president
*runs*

Let me get this straight the fact that the website uses the presidential seal makes them think it real and stories like SECRETARY RUMSFELD RELEASES FINAL, IRONCLAD PROOF OF IRAQ'S OBSTINATE YEARNING FOR NAPALM COLONICS OF FREEDOM (http://www.whitehouse.org/news/2003/020603.asp) wouldn`t?
Who are these people? Do they want to buy a bridge? I`ve got one going cheap :D

LOL i hear you bud. Im not even going to try and stick up for those who beleive its a real whitehouse website from the gov.

Never mind that the "presidential seal" features a vulture rather than an eagle on whitehouse.org/.
Lone: Don't make me smack you around for that "traitorism" comment.

Opinions are like assholes, just consider me an asshole.
-
shrike, i'd think you'd better nip this one in the bud, before it gets out of hand.
-
wha....??? nothing wrong here.......nipping this for what? Geez, cant people disagree or debate without someone crying for a closure? Just some friendly debating is what i see, however it is political and all......
-
sorry, but i've seen many a "friendly political debate" turn into a full scale flame war..
let's not let it happen to this thread..
-
Don't be a pansy. At any rate, I've seen exactly one person actually recieve emotional damage from a flame war (and he was unbalanced in the first place) in more than three years of internet use, so it's not like the mere threat of flaming is cause to shut down a perfectly good thread.
At any rate, as I recall, there's always someone making noise about how a thread is going to become a flamewar right before it becomes a flamewar. Chalk it up to cause and effect, 'cos there are plenty of political threads that don't.
-
...................... i'll shut up now
-
That's right.

Hey, I'll give you real ultimate money if you try this (http://www.msu.edu/~couilla3/ninja/seppuku.htm). :yes:
