Title: Modding Help
Post by: Mystical on October 16, 2001, 09:20:00 pm
Hi, I need help with a little Modding.
My neighbor, who plays Freespace too, has decided to start Modding, and so have I!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I'm already awesome at .tbl editing and FRED and all that, but what I want to work on first is taking a normal ship, let's say the Elysium transport (by the way, I want to start out modifying only Freespace ships, and I don't want to start FS2 ships just yet)

So say I want to take the transport and change the 'skin color'...
like make it white, but not SOLID white, with patches of dark here and there, you know, like in context to the original, but with a different 'color scheme'...

how would I do that?

What programs?  please no smart comments...
Setekh, Thunder, Shrike, please help me someone!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I'm going to assuming you have basic knowledge of the VP structure and file types.  It's pretty easy actually.

If you simply want to edit the colors, you can extract the .pcx files in the /maps directory, and use most gfx programs to play around with color balance, etc.  Just make sure to save them at 256 color .pcx files.

If you want to change the skins, you can do this with FSMM2.  Just use the .pof editor and change the maps/textures/skins (whatever it's called) section.  Simply change the names in the listing, from say 'TCov1a' (a Deimos skin) to 'Capital01-01a' (an Orion skin).

Any other questions?   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Lucky. There's only one other person within an hour of where i live that plays FS2, and only a handful more that have heard of it (most of them because of me).

I know nobody else who plays FS2, so you can complain...
