Done in 3d studio max 5.
Thunderbolt: Thomas Banner.
Islands: Came with the software.

Because this is my first attempt at rendering, I kept it simple.
Next time you can expect to see more. ;)

Water is very good but get rid of that ring - makes the engine glow look like a sun or something. And...the motion blur of the fighter flying towards you is reversed.

But nice

This is actually just a frame from an 18 megabyte fly-by animation. And yes that is a sun. I'll post one without the halo later. as far as the motion blur goes, its not reversed, thats just how max does motion blur. Both the back and front are blurred.
Example.
Original object: [__]

Motion blurred object: [[[__]]]

Version 2 (http://groups.msn.com/DeepbluesWebspace/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=5)
 Version 3  (http://groups.msn.com/DeepbluesWebspace/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=6)
 Version 4 (http://groups.msn.com/DeepbluesWebspace/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=7)

Which one do you think is the best?

Note that 3 & 4 are the same as 1 & 2 except for a slight blur and color tint.

Actually, it is reversed. I had the same problem too a while ago.

*is confuzzled*

Anyways, very nice render, but shouldn't that sun be behind the Thunderbolt, not in front of it? Also, keep the halo, just lower the sun's brightness.

One more thing: Can I have that water? Or is it just a bitmapped texture? If so, can I have the texture?

1. Actually the light itself is right above the wing of the thunderbolt but I am an amatuer at lens effects so I do not know how to make the part of it behind the thunderbolt actually look like it is behind.
2. What prog do you use? If you have Max it is included in the scenes. And yes it is just a texture.

I suppose (I don't know 3DS) that you'd set it in the opposite direction to what you wanted it?

anyway, nice pic, very froody.

No. Animate it again. Make it fly backwards and observe.
