Title: FleetWars
Post by: Ashrak on February 24, 2003, 06:33:51 am
tell me if its worth asking hosting for this project on hlp ;)

Well me and jiggy decided to go ahead with FleetWars project

The point of the project is to create a realistic text/space based game which will be consistent of Big fleets fighting each other convoy and station assults node defences and escorts....

The text based part will be played out as ordinary squad war. Set up matches ETC. And gameplay will be Freespace 2 based for each mission there will be a seperate mission created and played out at a pre arranged date.

FleetWars will be held amongst 3 teams The Shivans, GTVA and NTF. At the beginning every team will recive 1 node and 5 wings of fighters and everyone will be able to purchase new ships fighters and capital ships on the credits they recive for completing each mission. Every 4 players will have the ability to create a squadron in the selected faction. a squadron will own stuff (capships fighters) independent from the full factions recourses.

each faction may accept random missions that i or anyone ealse think up of

example:

GTVA: Karma assasins squadron

Escort freighter convoi from deneb to alpha centauri node

Expect heavy NTF assult

then jiggy creates a mission with few freighters and ntf assult force you have to defend freighters

if you win you recive credits for the job and expirience points if you loose you loose experience points and you loose your ships
every 10 respawn = 1 wing of fighters so you dont loose all your fighters in 1 game.

the points you gain will be shown after the played out mission and will be writen down on the website

and from there it goes conquer the galaxy style ;)

donno never played nodewars but this is text/fs2 based you appoint stuff like installation assult in text and play out the installation assult in FS2

ok so are we talking about a text-based world (though one with rules and turns etc) like Planetarion or Utopia, or are we talking actual in-game FS2 action?

I would be interested, as I had long thought about the coolness of having a game like PLanetarion in the FS2 setting

erm im talking about set up in text play out in FS2...... like

you set upa assult on convoi owner of convoi wants to defend so we make a mission you and the owner play it out the winner gets crdits and rank points

and so on.... you can do anything and everything
from capturing systems to reconing installations ;)

bad idea to make a mission. It would take ages if 10 people want to attack a certain player. then you need to make 10 missions and since we have allot of lazy people here ( including me ) it wil take until the end of time before one battle takes place.

this sounds like a very good idea...in theory.

As Darkage said, the most of us are too lazy to put together so many missions and the like. Sounds like hella fun tho...

as well, you would need to coordinate all the people to get on pxo at the right times. With timezones and toher factors, this is unfeasible (i think)

I think a better idea would be to create either

a)Something along the lines of EOC Online. For those unfimiliar this is a web game (browser) designed to get people interested in Independence War 2. you can find it at www.independencewar2.com at the bottom of the screen. The basic concept is that you have a ship and you fly it around to different sectors, killing people and upgrading your ship. I played it for a while and found it very fun. If someone could make this, it would rock.

b)Something along the lines of Planetarion or Utopia. Here you manage a large army (or in this case fleet) again through your browser. You can build different buildings, research technologies and coordinate with people in your kingdom (players are grouped in "kingdoms" of about 20 people. Check http://games.swirve.com to see what I mean.

Either of these ideas would rock, but it would require someone qho is really good with flash or cgi/php stuff. I think either of these ideas has awesome potential, and I would be willing to put in the time if someone who has the skills to make the game engine is interested.

A few months back I was developing a FS2 Themed Duel Monsters type card game involving using FS2 ships and such stuff like subspace drives, weapons etc, as the abilities, similair to DM's... i have some stuff already done stat wise but i never got the chance to continue cause of real world issues.

u have a better chance of making this type of game in here then it would be what u suggested (which sounds good in theory but it would end up sounding like a mission text ment to bein the campiagn story).

erm u dont get it

lol the battles will be arranged like SquadWar is arranged now everyone agrees on date and time we get quite a simplistic mission ready (i want people to be able to order theyr caps) and we play it out in FS2 then the gained points credits are written down and ship damage written down ;) and posted on site ;)
