No need to download the sound files.... just go here (http://www.3dap.com/hlp/freespace/downloads.shtml) and grab VPView and the few files of the soundtrack that're there.

this is for the free version of Freespace2, not the bought version.

Sure, find someone with a fast connection to upload them for you. They aren't in the free version simply to keep the download as small as possible.

He is right. All of FS2 has been released to the public, but the download at HOTU didn't need to be any bigger than it already was (it is still a bit large right now...253 megs...). So certain files were excluded.

They aren't on HOTU but they can be legally distrbuted.

Now, anyone with enough bandwith to host the sound files (stu_fs.vp) in .rar format (122 MB)?

My reading of the HOTU situation is that its not really legal in the strict sense, but no one at V or Interplay care enough to bother to take legal action. V may even approve of it, but cant do so publicly as interplay own the rights to FS.

Please correct me if im wrong. :)

The major gaming companies are well aware of HOTU- it's the closest thing to an archnemesis the ISDA has, except for maybe some particularly large warez ring. If any company wants to do anything about it, all it takes is an email to get UD to take down the game. No email? Then they clearly don't care. It's free publicity at the sacrifice of something they're not gonna make money on anymore.

Patched FS2 files, voices, music and high-res support should be available in less than four hours in my site. These files may still become unavailable without further notice.

Sorry but no command briefing anims, tech room anims or cutscenes.

Well, let's do a bit of calculation. Command briefing anims and cutscenes takes together 850 MB. Even with 50% compression it is still 425 MB, and I bet it will be closer to 25% compression than 50%.

I can be forced to delete the files that are currently being uploaded.

You just have no idea what you just asked...

It's hard when you're supposed to have only 50MB of webspace, I can only wonder how far you can go if quotas are disabled. ;)
