Wish I could remember my friend's PC...he owns a computer sales company, makes a ton of money, and has a hell of a machine. Put's most to shame.

Anyway, for the low income me, here's the specs:

Althalon XP 1700+
512 MB DDR 2700 RAM
10/100 Ethernet Card
GeForce 4 MX 440
Soundblaster Audigy Gamer
10 Gig Harddrive*
20 Gig Harddrive* (slaved)
3.5" Floppy (duh)*
HP 12x10x32x CD-RW
LG 16x DVD-ROM
Logitec Quickcam
Logitec Internet Keyboard
Logitec Optical Wheelmouse
Labtec Speakers*
KDS 17" CRT Monitor*

* - Denotes hardware that I took out of old machines and so only remember the information show. I'm poor, can't afford all these "new toys" so I swipe from old machines. :p

Athlon 1.2GHz (upgrading to Athlon XP 2000+ or higher soon - depends on prices)

Gigabyte GA-7DX motherboard

512Mb PC2100 DDR memory (plenty for now!)

GeForce 2Ti 64Mb DDR (upgrading to GF4 Ti4600, GFFX or Xabre in the next few months - depends which gets best reviews, and how much I can afford!)

LG DVD-ROM (adding Liteon CD-RW soon)

20Gb IBM 7200rpm HDD (may get another, but don't really need it at the moment)

Hercules Muse XL soundcard (may get a new one this year)

Logitech keyboard

MS ergo wheel mouse

Iiyama VisionMaster 411 17" monitor (brilliant and cheap - about £150 now!)

Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold USB joystick (best there is!)

Logitech 2.1 speakers (may change to 4/5.1 this year)

Yeah, I know this looks crap, but she still does the business! Runs Unreal 2 just fine on medium detail settings, so it can't be that bad!  Just need to persuade my dad to get ADSL now...:doubt:

Simple! Just duct tape over all the vents, fill the case with water from the tap, and turn it on. Make sure it's cold water, though; you'll need to change it every two weeks or so.

I still don't get it why some people have so many fans. It's a computer, not a helicopter goddamit :p

so, i've seen a case with 22 fans.. apparently it sounded like a 747..

Post by: beatspete on February 26, 2003, 03:08:15 pm
1.3 GHz AMD Duron.
256MB SDRAM 266MHz
Windows XP
Riva TNT2 32MB
30GB HD + 8 GB HD
8X4X32 CDRW
17" Phillips Flat Screen.
LAN to 2 other computers with printer and scanner.
ISDN connection.
Creative labs not very intresting speakers.
Slim Keyboard.
Unintresting mouse.

Case Mods
Been working on these recently, still work in progress. Current mods:
2 triple LED 80mm fans
1 92mm fan
temprature read out display (for CPU, 3d card, and air temp in case)
Cold Cathode light (blue)
DIY control pannel, with switches for fans and controls for light.
Perspex window, approx 350mm X 300mm

See for yourself:

http://www.the-rift.net/attachment.php?s=&postid=63811
http://www.the-rift.net/attachment.php?s=&postid=63814

The fan on the 3D card is very temporary, just look at the electrical tape holding it on. Still, it knocks 28 Degrees C off the running temprature. I plan to get a smaller one and mount it horizontally.
Also want to paint it.  Red, probably.

My case mods are heavy layers of dust both outside and inside the case, along with possibly a dead spider or two inside. (there was one last time I cleaned it out :D)

Actually, if you have heard the air ventilation system inside a commerical airliner (kind of a continuous mechanical whine), my case sounds exactly like that except a bit louder.

but hey, it allows for good overclocking. ;7
