What is Impulse Studios? Well right now it's just an idea but with help and interest we hope to make it more!
Impulse Studios will be not another campaign, but a ship modeling "Club" of sorts. Anyone who signs on can toss in textures, ship models, table entries, etc. and let other members do the rest. Got an untextured model? Toss it in, let the texture artsits paint it up. Got new textures and no ideas? Maybe the modlers will use 'em.
The purpose is to have ready-made ships to go for anyone who wants them. Be it just to fly for the fun of it, to include in a new campaign, or to examine for ideas on their own ships.
Anyone who can:
1) Model
2) Texture
3) UV Map
4) Table
5) Render
Are welcome to join. Submit as you build them to the staff for work. If you have a completed model, we'll put it up for download and review!
What we hope to make:
1) Flyable ships
2) Capitol/Support ships
3) New textures
4) New weapons
5) Ships just for the hell of it (Overpowered, massive, you name it)
6) Fancy renders just cause
While there's no "set date" for submissions, I would like to try and add new items every now and again to keep the site/forum operational once they're up.
Of course unless we get some interest, this all stays as just a dream on the wind. Won't begin work on a website unless some people sign up. Tabler's appreciated, modlers and texture artists required.

not that I can model or tex or anything (yet) I think this is a great Idea. Sorta Like a freelance model workshop/bodyshop. I like. :D
question: Would it be a place where the guys would be willing to do one or two models for a campaign?

My meshes would have to go through campaign consideration first, but I've been told that my ships can't be used on something like 3 out of the last 5. (Translation: KT, you get to look at my stuff first still, no change from normal). You already know that I have a tendency to dump ships to public release anyway, and I was one of the guys who worked on the Raynor (still the one with the release hosting as far as I know) so community projects are right up my alley. Might help get some of these unfinished models of mine get pof'd too. So hey, I'm in :D

Impulse Studios, I like the name already. Being the impulsive modder that i am, i'm in, what are we in general looking for?

Anything and everything from what I gather. Fighters, capships, incomplete models, textures, anything. I've already decided that I'll be sending in plug-and-play (heirarchy-assembeled) turrets as my first submission.

You want mods or models? I can loan ya the Tokugawa, and maybe something later, if you want models in general...

I wouldn't try right now.
In fact, I'd duck and cover. Apparently there's a bit much work being spread among very few admins at the moment. Besides which, this looks like it'd work as an independent project to me.
If you really need hosting, come work for me instead.:D

I can do just about everything.
I have lots of Truespace models (unfinished) and some finished ones ( allmost) + weapons + ani's!

I can mesh until the cows come home but I need someone to texture and turret. Or, preferably, someone to teach me how to texture and turret.

Are you meaning making the turret models or the positioning of then in tS? Or even POF data?
If it's positioning them I don't know how on earth that can be hard. But hey I can sorta do it.

2) Texture - I've done one model and that was crappy.
3) UV Map - Isn't this that same as texturing?
4) Table - Oh ya.
5) Render - Can do. I got tS4, loseres! :ha::ha::ha: :nervous: j/k

Hard to say. I can render pretty well (though still have much to learn). Got my own little site under construction right now...but...I dunno...

Glad to see so much support. A website will be in development shortly but we needs a place to put it up. Anyone got server space? I lack and would like to avoid banner ads from the freebie locales if possible.

I can model, but only in Rhino, which is a bit useless.
I can do tables too, they are always fun in a strange way. :nervous:

As for the main thread, will all the ships made by impulse studios be public domain or will some be for some campaigns only?

I can do some okay models in Blender, and get them to you in .cob format, but I can't texture or UVMap.

I can both texture and UV map but I'm not fast at it. I also am picky about what I texture, if I'm going to texture someone elses mesh it has to have good geometry, it's a bit annoying when you're trying to texture a mesh that has intersecting polys or is poorly built.

I can create DXF model files quite well (still got old harpy model sitting around), and mess with the textures themselfs, but I'm afraid the rest is kind of out of my league:(
Tables: Yes
Renders: Did a couple a while back. not great, but I can learn......

Okay, where are we going with this. With this much support i say that we should get this project off the ground. We know that most people can model. A select few can texture. another couple can UVmap. some can render. Get a separate forum for this so that people can post their areas of expertise. A set post though, no random spamming. Then set up a list and start pm'ing duties out to the masses.

We will be going someplace but I need the following things:
1) The site designed. I'd like some help with that in terms of graphics and such.
2) A place to host the site. A good place too.
3) A forum. Now that can either be here (I'll ask Shrike) or at Warpstorm (I'll link straight there from the site)
So if some people could maybe help me take care of 2 and then 1 after, we can get somewhere.

did i hear site design??? well i guess i could help. I've done the combat federation site, realization, ithov (new one i dont think it has been uploaded yet), nodewars site and map, gca site. So do you think i'm qualified enough?
I use dreamweaver mx and photoshop 6 mainly with renderings in truespace 5 when nessicary. I have flash mx but have yet to learn it properly so i can do buttons and nav bars and spining ships (see combat federation site http://freespace.virgin.net/combat.federation/splash.htm and click on episode1).
I can modify php to do some server stuff, i havn't learnt to right it from scratch yet but im picking it up as i use it and i guess you'll wana to use a lot of upload scripts for the site.
Anyway i sound like the kinda guy u want then email me [email protected] (same for msn messenger) i dont use irc so msn messenger is the onlyway to contact me for discussions.

Boosh! We can use this for the minimod database! We have a repository of models, categorized by their various stages of development, anyone can pick up and work on. Once it's reached POF stage, the final category is of finished models anyone can pick up for their campaign.

Great idea that this be linked to the minimod database, in fact it will give all the spontaneous models created by this a home, so that they can be seen, and used. Analazon, if you read this, set up a section on the minimod just for the Impulse Studios thing. I can upgrade my village photos account a bit more and we can use it for impulse studios picture hosting. Just a thought.

I would like to see the site (once up and running) divided into different links. First, completed .pof's (plug in to game set to go) with tables. second, .pof's that need work (either systems, guns, or textures, but still work in gmae - no crash, geometry fixed). Third, .pof's that will convert but need to be fixed (like the white star and defiant I use, they work in game but crash after 1 minute.) Fourt, Raw Models (stating what format it is in, and general description (fighter/capship)ect..). Fifth, tables for ships. Sixth, Tables for Weapons (and .pof's if need be). Seventh, TEXTURES!!! (like the spiderman one I use for the new shivan/shadow fleet) ;)
Also a link to somewhere people can send you stuff to donate the stuff for teh site with descriptions of what it is so you don't have to guess.
ie: If this happens I will go back and re-tweak the quantoms cause I am not happy with them yet BUT would donate my take on the photons and quantom torpedoes I posted a while ago. Also I would donate teh Enterprise-E (pof is textured, works in game but needs everything else!). also other stuff I mentioned earlier...
Sounds like a great idea and I hope it comes into reality!!! Soon!

Hey, this is a little OT, but what ever happened to the Realization project? It kinda got announced and then nothing happened.
The relation being, wasn't it supposed to be something like impulse will hopefully be?

Just curious...what if someone (me) wants some models textured for a new campaign, but doesn't want them released until the campaign is, say 50% done or so, it can be a sort of "teaser" for the campaign or something?
Would all models have to be readily available right away?
If not, I'm still interested. :D

well i asked for the impluse studio symbol from hex bout a week ago and have hear nothing since, in the mean time ive been trying to learn php and i think i can make a database without sql which will just require a login. Not sure how i'll get the upload script working with fileplanet though

Sorry sorry sorry.
I've been hella busy lately thanks to a new job I just got (finally). Not to mention I've been working on some stuff over at Warpstorm and now I've caught a nasty ass flu bug.
Tomorrow I work from 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM so I'll be too tired. But I'll try on Tuesday or Wedsday since I have those off.

I'd like to update this. I just installed Lightwave 7 (I think it's 7 anyway :nervous: ). And I hope to get 3D max sometime...well don't we all... I also have PhotoShop 7.
