Right, time for a bit of fun.
I'm sure you've all heard of Nodewars, some of you might even have participated. However, I imagine the complexity turned some of you off.
Thus, I unveil Nodewars: Galactic Attack!, the latest and not entirely sober installment.
Rules:
1) What I say goes
2) Blow **** up
3) There is no three
3-B) Blow more **** up
4) Try to not take out the universe
5) All non-Freespace ships you're using must have some sort of model, render, doodle or good description. Other than that, feel free to steal **** from the mods floating around, assuming you get permission. :drevil:
6) Have a blast....
This takes place in the Freespace universe, FYI, so you should all know what the nodemap looks like. Feel free to make or break alliances, factions, blah blah, there are no rules.
Oh, and rule 7) Just be sure to note where you are, who you are and who your friends are. I'll give it a day or two to let people get their **** together then start The Real Thread™ (of doom). Whee!
Anything I forgot?
Adendum: You can have a ship as your base instead of a planet/area. Just in case anyone wants to make a 50 km long ship named the Echelon....
-
Two men enter, one man leave?
Er... ships are on the house, provided you serve me.
-
What color?
-
*steals Gargant mod*

On the request of Shrike...I'm bringing back an old beast. From the Terran Imperium thread stories that died so long ago..
GTVA Eschelon
Class: City Ship
Length: 50km
Width: 20km
Weapons:
4x Anti-Matter Cannons
300x Anti-Cap Beams
450x AAA Beams
350x Flak Cannons
250x Missile Batteries
Crew:
200 Operational
600 Engineering
600,000 Civilian
Fighters:
250 Fighter/Bomber Wings
6 Capship maintenance/construction bays
Facilities:
Various construction, production, repair, and civilian facilities
Description:
The Echelon is back. A tremendous city ship develoed over decades, it was built as a mobile center to the GTVA, a beacon of power and center of might. However, it fell into the hands of renegade GTVI Admiral Trellor and has become the center of the Terran Imperium. The ship carries tremendous firepower and an entire city covering the upper half. The lower half is full of factories and construction centers for fighters, basic commodities and even cap ships. The craft relies on materials from nearby planets but carries an internal stockpile.
The forward Anti-matter cannons are used to destroy massive warships of the juggernaught class causing tremendous damage. The Echelon is a true beast, requiring 48 hours to charge it's massive subspace drives. However, it rarely moves from it's stationary position surrounded by a large TI fleet.

If the ultraviolets are off-limits, I'd say... red. Bright red. Why not.
-
rules are in the nodewars forum I assume?
-
Well, I think this is a somewhat different version then the old NW. But I'm not 100% sure. Only Shrike knows :p

Polaris General Assembly
The PGA are a govornment structure residing outside the durastiction of the GTVA. Based in Polaris, they lay total claim to the system and police it highly effectively. Diplomatic ties with the GTVA are cordial.
PGAGS Havok
Class: Gravity Destroyer
Length: 2.75km
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/wevil/havok2s.jpg)
Weapons:
1 IGP
4x Assault Antiplasma Accelerators
6x Antiplasma Accelrators
6x Charge Beam Cannons
Crew:
2034
Fighters:
6
Facilities:
C&C operations, nanotech centers, Gravity Shield
Description:
A one-off design with an enourmously strengthened hull, the Havok took over seventy years to build. Mounting standard capital vessel protection screens, it also has the significant addition of the Gravity Shield device, a mass projection system capable of refracting any energy beam within an umbrella radius of five hundred kilometers, as well as numerous other applications.
A secondary application of this field was developed during the dark days after the second shivan invasion - the IGP, or Inverse Gravity Projector. Essentially a short-lived mass that can be projected from the vessel and acts like a proverbial "neutronium slug", crushing matter to extreme densities and releasing huge amounts of energy upon impact. This weapon requires the deactivation of the gravity shield system which utilises the same hardware on board the ship.
Other noteable designs:
Vengeance/Entropy Class Command Destroyer
Designed as a spinoff from the Havok project, these vessels have extremely heavy armour and shields, while mounting respectable weapons arrays coupled with great agility and speed.
Parallax Class Command Carrier
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/wevil/parallax.jpg)
Twice as large as the Polaris Dreadnoughts, a PGA command carrier forms the core of a battlegroup. Mounting exceptional antifighter screens as well as very heavy anti-capital ship weapons, the Parallax is an amazingly versatile deep-space platform.
Polaris Class Dreadnought
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/wevil/jump.jpg)
Big, tough and hugely expensive, these heavy warships are the backbone of the PGA fleets.
Ascension class Battleship
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/wevil/ascension.jpg)
A pulse cannon nightmare, the Ascension is capable of running rings around enemy battlegroups while delivering massive long-range broadsides.
Uriel Class Battlecruiser
A capital-ship class dive-bomber, the Uriel accelerates to insane velocities while the focused antimatter beam assembly annihalates large targets.
Thunderbolt-X Class Advanced Cruiser
Overpowered, these fast and viciously armed warships can go toe to toe with any comparable mass vessel - the disadvantage being they exhaust their antimatter fuel supplies in record speed.
Tharsis class escort carrier
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/wevil/tharsis1.jpg)
Lightly armed, but with a hyperconductive hull, these vessels are capable of whithstanding extreme punishment from energy weapons while delivering their 4 squadrons of fighters to the battlefield with impunity.
Scorpio-G Class AWACS
A heavily armed and armoured AWACS vessel, the Scorpio-G's gravitic arrays are excellent at spotting ships massing frigate class and upwards.
Rampart Class Corvette
Primarily used as a support vessel, these corvettes provide point support for larger PGA ships.
Shadow-S Class Artillery
Mounting impressive point defenses against torpedo weapons, the Shadow-S also mounts intra-system capable torpedo and missile magazines.
Nereid Class Frigate
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/wevil/nereid1.jpg)
A heavy beam cannon coupled with a blast accelerator present a threat to larger vessels in numbers, along with tough anti fighter screens.
Onyx Class Advanced Interceptor
In limited supply, the Onyx mounts dual plasma accelerators capable of a withering hail of fire, along with a small animatter projector making it a threat to larger vessels, as well as poorly shielded fighters.
Lance Class Interceptor
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/wevil/lance2.jpg)
An exceptionally fast and maneouverable design mounting a single fast-firing Plasma Accelerator mounted spinally, this interceptor is next to impossible to hit and can withstand a good deal of punishment.
for the rest look at the old PGA oob at the board
adds up to aboot 450 ships

Entirely correct.

In theory, yes, but the dust mote you missed just happened to be the one that contained everything important.

Why is it that when I suggest making NW entirely about common sense people always have to start sticking formulae and complicated rules in and spoiling it (curses the formative weeks of NW2 and 3), but when Shrike suggests it every does as they're told.
I'm beginning to think you people don't respect me.
And on a more On-Topic note: Wooooot! NW1!
-
So do we use the nodewars forum for this?
-
No. I'll post a thread in a day or so (ie, when I get around to it)
-
ohh, trust me, i heckle him as much as everyone else - you just can't see it :p
-
Bah, just when I post a simple, NW1-ish rule system on the admin forum :p ... ah well.
I'll be getting my OOB-ish thingy over soon....
-
Errr. Anyway, I'm in.
I'm a sucker for NW.

I respect you. Largely because you're only now saying what I said all along.:p

I've been saying it since that gap between the "We need to restart" barrage and the "Kam, I've locked all the threads" thread.
I just never bothered trying to force the issue. Too lazy, you see.

Prepare for doom Unbelievers! The Eishtmo is back and so is the Victorious and her sisters. Of course, I'll play some games with the storyline so I can dig out all of the originally planned six of them, but life is funny like that.
Victorious Class Vessels:
NHJ Victorious
VMS Absolution
VMS Invincible
VMS Retribution
VMS Victorious II
VMS Resolution

20 High Energy Beam Cannons aka "Secondary Weapons"
~50 Particle Cannons, Unknown Origin
20 "Slash" Type XI Beam Cannons aka "Beam Collar" (Victorious, Victorious II, Resolution)
15 Anti-Fighter Beams
32 Flak Cannons
Defenses
"Gas Hull" Anti Beam Weapon Shell
Single Shell Sheild System (Victorious, Victorious II, Invincible)

1000 Special ops (extra fighters supported on special wires)
Absolution, Retribution
500 Normal ops
1700 Special ops
Resolution
375 Normal ops
1400 Special ops
Description: Found, not built, the Victorious and her sister ships, known as the VCV's (Victorious Class Vessels) were refitted for combat by the Neo-Hammer of Light who later formed the core of the Vishnu Force. Each VCV is armed with a Main Cannon which, when properly powered, has the strength to rip a planet to bits with the lone exception of the Absolution (Victorious underwent forced self-destruct in using the weapon in this way, other VCV's have no such problems). VCV's are designed to move alone, with little or no escort, hiding within a system until it's heavy fire power is called in. Withering firepower capable of vaporizing a Sathantas (wow, haven't had to write that word in forever) in a single shot is its main weapon. They also act as secure military operations centers and the cores of huge, multi-fleet task forces.
No VCV has been lost to enemy action, and few expect one ever will.
Sorry I'm being brief, I've got things to do tonight. Later, suckers!

I'll be the GTVA(like everyone seems to be at the start).

So people know, the Nodewar homepage is www.nodewar.com and the forum which goes with it is www.nodewar.com/forum
The Nodewar forum here is currently inactive and unused, so don't post there. Don't be alarmed at a few forums missing over at nodewar.com , we're reopening after a temporary shutdown.

So people know, the Nodewar homepage is www.nodewar.com and the forum which goes with it is www.nodewar.com/forum
I designed the site. **** this reminds me, i have been absent from nodewars for months now!!!!

Yes, I'm stealing Rob's work. I hope he doesn't mind, but he's never on ICQ any more. :p
GTVA Vanguard
http://www.3dap.com/hlp/contest/large/eldorado.jpg
Type: Self-sufficient command vessel
Length: 10km
Crew: 23,000
Fighters: 600 wings
Weapons: Light antiship and antifighter defenses only
Defenses: Equal to the GTVA Colossus
The GTVA Vanguard is a new design of command vessel, designed to be fully self suffient and capable of supporting a combat fleet for in the field an indefinate period of time. At 10km almost twice the length of the Colossus, it is significantly less massive, dispensing with the heavy antiship armament of the original supership in favor of support equipment. The Vanguard project was started in 2374, with the keel lain in 2379, as the massively expensive Eschelon project was running over budget and behind schedule. Taking advantage of experience gained in the construction of the Colossus, the Vanguard was officially declared operational in the Beta Aquila system after only six years of construction.

Can I play as Harvesters? ;) (will grab renders soon)
-
Begone before I smite you.
-
Hmm... do you want to run NW: GA on the NW boards... or not? If you're not I'm just going to convert the NW boards into NW4.
-
Here.
-
Can I just be a pilot? I don't have enough time to think about and manage a whole organisation. I'm guessing by the rules that I can, since pilots blow stuff up.
-
Go right ahead! You can put as much or as little detail into this as you want. As long as you've played Freespace 2, all the other background info you should need would be right here. ;)
-
Excellent... time to hop into my Pegasus (ignites engine and disappears from radar).

My weapon is the plasma colonic. Who's first?

can we play a new species? I wanna do zerg clones :)

these are the specifics for the Dubbe military force, a semi-fleet of the GTVA:
1 Arcadia class station, Dubbe station. a standard arcadia class Installation, but with a bad state of maintenance
12 Myrmidon class fighters, none of them are in a good state of maintenance, and supplys of weapons are low
24 hercules mark 1 fighters, well maintained, these where litterly poulled out of the museum, and had to specially refitted to be able to arry weapons again.
1 GTC Fenris class cruiser, once again, behind on maintennance.
4 GTT Elysium class transports, only 2 of these vessels have marines ready to man them.
-
Good, now me and Kami and Mad Bomber don't have to set anything up.
I'll be the Laramis Confederation, consisting of Laramis and N362.
Oh and by the way, which nodemap specifically are we operating off of? IceFire's? (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/blackwater/img/nodemap2375.jpg)
-
Okay, here's Laramis. I'm going into an OOB-esque format here.
Also note - the LC doesn't actually exist yet. They're still part of the GTVA right now. This is what they are, uh, later.
Need to talk to Shrike.
Name: Laramis Confederation
Race: 95% Human, 5% Vasudan
Head of State: Admiral Kenichi Fujimura
Government: True Democracy
Territory:
- Laramis: 5 planets, 1 gas giant, 9 moons, 2 asteroid belts, 1 large shipyard, 2 medium shipyards - pop. 2.3 billion
- N362: 2 planets, 2 gas giants, 34 moons, 1 asteroid belt, 3 medium shipyards - pop. 0.9 billion
Total Population: 3.2 billion
Economy: Good. Systems are resource-rich (although hard to exploit) and Laramis is an important center of trade between the core GTVA systems and the outer colonies.
Industry: Medium. Plenty of available resources; however, the factories to use them are few in number.
Agriculture: Average. Capable of sustaining population at a comfortable level.
History: 10 years after the Second Great War, with the GTVA's coffers nearly exhausted, the Security Council was looking for ways to regain the Alliance's monetary strength. It was decided to heavily tax the colony systems. Noticing that core systems were not being taxed, Laramis objected - strongly - to the point where the 12th Fleet was sent from Ross 128 to quell the uprising. After a few tense weeks of occupation, fighting broke out, led by former 10th fleet commander Kenichi Fujimura. To make a long story short, the freedom fighters eventually forced the 12th Fleet to retreat, and then declared their independence from the GTVA, along with N362 (which traditionally followed Laramis). Now, 6 years after the revolution, Fujimura has been elected as the leader of the nation's democratic government.
Laramis Confederation Navy:
1x LCD Freedom
3x LCCv Deimos
4x LCC Leviathan-X
3x LCC Fenris-X
120x LCF Hercules
90x LCF Loki
60x LCF Valkyrie-X
35x LCF Augeas
30x LCF Ragnarok
40x LCB Medusa
30x LCB Zeus
12x LCB Ursa
(Note the high proportion of fighters to capital ships. All fighters are modified to be aerospace capable, useful during the revolution - GTVA ships couldn't hit back after being raided by ground-based LC fighters. Capital ships, on the other hand, were large targets and most were destroyed.)
Ship types:
LCD Freedom: Only one of these ships is in existence. Originally the GTD Awesome of the 12th fleet, this ship was nearly destroyed by the LC near the end of the revolution. Over the past 6 years, the hulk has been salvaged, refurbished, and entirely rebuilt with the addition of another hangar bay, weaponry and systems salvaged from other capital ships, a custom-built Vasudan reactor, and an extra 150 millimeters of armor plating. (Note: The second hangar bay is mostly empty. Complement is similar to a standard Orion at this time.)
LCCv Deimos (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/techfs/ships/deimos.shtml): Same as original.
LCC Leviathan-X: Another product of the post-revolution weapons modernisation project, the 4 Leviathans that survived have only recently emerged from the shipyards orbiting Laramis IV. Long range missile launchers have been mounted on the forward and rear superstructures, redefining the Leviathan's tactical role. Able to bombard enemy capital ships far beyond the range of some beam weapons, they cannot protect themselves adequately from close range. They are usually paired with a Fenris-X.
LCC Fenris-X: Again, a modified chassis. The Fenris' turrets have been upgraded with new, high-velocity lasers and powerful long range flak guns. Speed has been increased to 35m/s, making this a deadly threat to fighters and bombers. However, the light slash beam cannon has not been changed, meaning that this ship is helpless against anything larger than itself.
LCF Hercules (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/techfs/ships/herc.shtml): Aerospace capable.
LCF Loki (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/techfs/ships/loki.shtml): Aerospace capable.
LCF Valkyrie-X: The original Valkyrie, with an extra missile rack on top and a modified shielding system. Laramis does not have access to the newer Perseus fighters.
LCF Augeas (http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/inferno/augeas1.jpg): This fighter did not arrive in time to participate in the revolution, but it is a valuable addition to the navy nonetheless. Based on the bare chassis of the ancient Apollo fighter, LC engineers completely redesigned it from the ground up with available parts manufactured in the Confederation. The result is a slow, yet maneuverable missile-attack fighter. Not very effective in a dogfight, the Augeas excels at destroying enemy bombers or fighters from long range. Overall, though, it's not very effective, and further modifications are being considered.
LCF Ragnarok (http://www.geocities.com/vasudanad/raganorak.txt): During the revolution, wrecked and knocked out fighters were sent to N362 to be repaired. Craftsmen noticed the abundance of Loki parts available and began modifying a few for greater firepower. Eventually, they earned an entirely new designation - the LCF Ragnarok. Heavily armed and armored, with almost the same speed and maneuverability as its predecessor, the Ragnarok is an excellent stopgap space superiority fighter. Original Lokis are steadily being converted to Ragnaroks as parts become available.
LCB Medusa (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/techfs/ships/medusa.shtml): Aerospace capable.
LCB Zeus (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/techfs/ships/zeus.shtml): Aerospace capable.
LCB Ursa (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/techfs/ships/ursa.shtml): Same as original. All based on board the Freedom.

Can we use the Warzone/Derelict map?
Noctis Organization
Leader: known only as Nyx
Territory: primary base in Beta Cygni, presence in Betelgeuse, Epsilon Pegasi, Adhara, Procyon A, Laramis, Wolf 359, Luyten
Members: estimated 42,000
Formed in 2375 in the Beta Cygni system in a merging of 5 trader organizations. With the militarization of GTVA space the organization has had to resort to less legitimate methods to earn cash. By 2385 they now own numerous illegal smuggling, mining, and even pirating operations in Epsilon Pegasi, Beta Cygni, Betelgeuse, or anywhere else that the GTVA's omni-present military can not control effectively.
Fleet:
4 Aeolus-class cruisers
8 Mycenae-class freighters (replacement to the Triton, a little bit faster, and has 5 flak guns)
14 Triton freighters modified to carry 3 fighter wings
26 Satis freighters/gunboats
12 Triton class freighters
52 Posiedon-class freighters
And about 1500 fighters
-
This map? This map is good, I consider it pretty standard.
Note: i'll make up my uber faction later when I feel like it :D
-
No, we're not using the warzone map. If people start going off the map I'll extend it as necessary.
-
Note (almost vebatim from the HLP Nodewar Forum) about Nodewars.
Nodewar: Galactic Attack ("http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,13521.0.html") - The casual Nodewar game, free form and mainly a story debate set in a semi-Freespace setting. Played here at HLP.
Nodewar 4 ("http://www.nodewar.com/forum") - The latest game in the Nodewar series is Nodewar 4, however it discontinues the highly rule-centered settings of Nodewars 2 and 3 for a classical, less ruled setting. This is slightly more complex than Nodewar: Galactic Attack. (less casual)
It's possible that Nodewar 4 will be less-Freespace based than NW:GA, or totally non-FS.
-
My Faction
(actually because I'm working the idea for a mini campaign, so all the ships are planned)
Black Watch
Leader; Unknown. Believed to be a pseudo-Politburo.
Species; Terran
Territory; Mobile, the systems surrounding Capella - principally Vega
Members; Unknown, estimated between 25,000 to 45,000
The so-called Black Watch was founded by Capellan refugees based on-board several GTVA 'relocation' stations. The Black Watch is the offshoot of several Capellan political parties, and seeks a new planet to be allocated to the refugees. With the Charon project forcing the GTVA to abandon the refugees, the Black Watch has grown from strength to strength.
The Black Watch does, however, have a dark core. It's principal command craft, the Warlock, is a relic from the war of 20 years ago. Sent into Gamma Draconis, the Warlock never returned, and was presumed lost with all hands. Up until 3 years ago, that appeared to have been a correct assumption.
The Warlock now forms the iron fist of the Black Watch. The motives of the surviving crew, and their reasons for joining the Watch, are unknown. So far, they have remained hidden, unwilling to actively strike out, yet building their strength.
Despite a relatively strong fleet, the Black Watches core strength remains a large core of 'sleeper' agents - former Capellan refugees working in various GTVA government and civillian agencies. The exact purpose of these agents is unknown, but finding them and eliminating them looks set to be the next 'shadow' war for the GTVA.
Fleet
1* BWSD Warlock
Armament; Unknown, estimated 6 beam turrets, 10+ flak
Size; 3-4km range
Crew; 8,000 - 10,000 (inc 2000 marines)
Although 20 years old, the Warlock is still capable of stading toe-to-toe with any GTVA destroyer. The head of the Black Watch fleet, it provides the crucial control and command functions for the fledgling alliance
8* BWCv Sceptre (8 confirmed, possibly 8 more in development)
Armament; 4 beam turrets, 10 laser turrets, 6 flak guns, 2 AAAf
Size; 0.75km
Crew; 3,500
The Sceptre has been manufactured largely in secret in various Black Watch bases. Before the arrival of the Warlock, the Sceptre provided a vital fighter carrying capability for the Watch, but at a severe disadvantage in armour. Since the Warlock arrived, these vessels have been massively upgraded, and pose a very real threat to similar sized ships and older destroyers
Numbers of fighters /bombers are uncofirmed, believed to total in the 300-500 range
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/reciprocity/ach_img/gtf_achilles.jpg)
BWB Achilles
Speed; Average
Maneuverability; Average/Poor
Armour/Shielding; Heavy
Weapons; Good
Less a bomber, more a gunship, the Achilles is a heavy fighter capable of carrying even the heaviest ordenance. Developed 20 years ago as an elite 'superfighter', the Achilles is still one of the most potent fighters available
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/reciprocity/images/clay1.jpg)
BWF Claymore
Speed; Good
Maneuverability; Good
Armour/Shielding; Light
Weapons; Average
The Claymore is the interceptor 'cousin' of the Achilles, with excellent speed and agility. It is belived that this fighter was developed fairly recently, as it was not stationed on the Warlock when it vanished 20 years ago
(http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/reciprocity/images/scimitar.jpg)
BWF Scimitar
Speed; Average
Maneuverability; Average
Armour/Shielding; Medium / Light
Weapons; Average
Before the Warlock arrived, the Scimitar was the Black Watches only fighter. A fairly weak fighter in the early days of the Watch, the Warlocks techs have already refitted a large number to a military-equivalent standard. The Scimitars principle advantage is its ability to fit into the fighterbays of the Sbare corvette, allowing the Black Watch to obtain a wide ranging fighter coverage for even small operations
(Achilles, Claymore only stationed on Warlock)
Weapons
Capship
Quantum singularity device
A weapon of unknown origin, the QSD is somewhat akin to a flak gun - firing minature subspace 'holes' (similar to a black hole) capable of causing immense damage at close proximity, but slow and difficult to aim
Pulse laser
The bulk of BW weaponry is the humble laser, turbocharged to move at high velocity. The pulse laser fires standard GTVA fighter lasers (a Subach HL-9 variant), but at a rate akin to a WW2 'tracer' gun
Shockwave defense
The Warlock is equipped with several turrets armed with 'Shockwave' weaponry. Primarily defensive, these warheads generate a massive shockwave capable of throwing any ship smaller than cruiser off balance, whilst paralysing them with and EMP surge. Their effectioveness against EMP protected / AWACs equipped capital ships is debatable, though
Fighter
Aggressor gun
The Agressor is an old-style machine gun, firing high velocity DU rounds. Highly effective against armour defenses, but with limited ammunition, the Aggressor needs to be complemented with a shield piercing weapon for maximum effect.
Railgun
Supercharged laser, firing a 'burst' of superheated energy. Slow to refire and inaccurate, but extremely powerful. The heat emissions make these unsafe for use within capital ships, due to the difficulties of dissapating the resulting heat away from the hull. They are, however, suitable for fighters if mounted in areas exposed to vacuum.

Yep, for sure.

I'll take my own mods for a spin. I'm going out on a limb here, it involves some pre-Great War non-canon elements but it has potential (especially given the rapid consumption of available systems on the canon nodemap)
Faction: Alliance of Terran Free Worlds (Free World Alliance) [FWA]
Governing Body: Terran Free World Assembly (965 members)
Leader: President C.E. Kerr
Supreme military commander: Eric "StratComm" Davis
my alter ego for military purposes
Core Systems:
Tau Ceti
Epsilon Eridani
Keid
Sigma Draconis
Solaris (CHI Draconis)
Adjacent populated systems: 8 (all members of alliance)
Known routes to GTVA space: 0
Background:
"...it is the key to the future of our species. Through subspace, mankind can now travel distances unheard of in previous lifetimes in the blink of an eye. Humanity now stands on the brink of its destiny among the stars. The possibilities for the future are endless. Godspeed to the 300 million colonists who set out today to establish humanity's first foothold outside of the solar system: Sigma Draconis." ~Professor J. Whiteside, at the embarkment ceremony for the GTA Eden, March 21, 2314*
"Today marks a tragedy the likes of which human kind has never had to face. At 0200 hours galactic standard time today, only minutes after the Eden entered hyperspace, sensors monitoring the Sigma Draconis jump node began to detect increasing instability in the regional subspace field. Within an hour these sensors confirmed a complete collapse of the node. All contact with the Eden has been severed, and it would appear that the colonization ship never made it out of subspace in Sigma Draconis. All attempts to restore contact have failed, and preliminary data from the node indicates that no craft could have survived a subspace corridor collapse. The Eden, along with all hands abord, is presumed lost. Let us pause now to honor the memory of her courageous crew, and may god have mercy on the souls of the 300 million men, women and children aboard." ~President Crowell to the citizens of the Galactic Terran Alliance, March 23, 2314*
can we bump that date back a couple of decades (50 years) so that there is some justification for having so many colonists off of Sol?
While Humanity mourned, and official record of the Eden colonization project was consigned to history, the first and only terran super-colonizer did safely emerge in Sigma Draconis. With the only avenue to Sol severed in one blinding flash, the would-be colonizers found themselves cut off with no hope of ever returning to their home. The Eden disembarked on Sigma Draconis II, where an immediate investigation was conducted into the collapse of the subspace node to Sol. It was concluded that one of the Eden's slow-charging subspace drives went out just after entry, and the remaining drives were not powerful enough to sustain the ship's subspace field within a node. Though the ship managed to clear the node successfully, the strain it had put on subspace in its passage caused the immediate collapse of the corridor. Without this knowledge, Earth could not explain the disaster, and it became widely accepted that the colonists were all killed when the node underwent spontaneous, natural collapse.
By the end of the incident in Capella, the long-forgotten colony in Sigma Draconis has done some rapid expanding of its own. Growth rates have skyrocketed, spurned by an abundance of resources and the necessity of cloning, and the population of the Sigma Draconis system alone is currently approaching 2 billion. The surrounding systems have been fully colonized, and a strong military presence established under the flag of the Terran Free Worlds. Several Ancient sites have been located throughout the Free World Alliance, and FWA researchers are within a few years of independent development of subspace stabilization technology. They have also developed space-faring warship technology comparable to the GTVA (shields developed independently) and have been expanding their military capabilities since picking up Great-War era radio chatter from Sol. The FWA would be a powerful contender in galactic politics if any connections to GTVA space allowed their direct contact. Further investigation of the surrounding systems found an indefinite network of subspace nodes, but thus far none has produced a conduit to terran-influended space. And with knowledge of the Great War and the Shivan threat, the FWA is not eager to push into unknown space to restore its link to Earth.
Ships and Stations:
FWI New Babylon
Size: 6km x 6km x 6km
Armament: 6 anti-fighter beams, 12 laser cannons
Fighterbay: 64 fighters/bombers standard, capable of maintaining 150+
A massive installation in orbit around many FWA core worlds. The New Babylon installations not military installations, though they do contain a fighterbay. Rather, these stations are home to over a million people each, and are hubs of commerce and orbital manufacturing unparalleled by similar facilities of the GTVA.
(my big civ station goes here. Still trying to get in-games of that thing)
FWI Sparta
Size: 3km x 3km x 2km
Armament: 6 heavy beam cannons, 12 anti-fighter cannons, 12 flak guns, 24 laser turrets
Fighterbay: 72 fighters/bombers standard, capable of maintaining 200+
The FWA equivilent to the GTI Arcadia (with similar functions to the Ganymede), the Sparta is a military command base. Well defended by 6 heavy anti-capital beams and numerous anti-fighter beams, the Sparta also boasts a large hanger and docking and servicing facilities for up to six capital ships.
model exists, but it's classified
FWDn Archangel
Size: 6km
Armament:
One spine-mounted extremely-heavy-beam turret (SuperBlue, you get the picture)
2 Long Range Beams
12 Heavy Anti-cap-ship beams
12 flak guns
36 anti-fighter beams
40 laser cannons
Fighterbay: 144 fighters/bombers standard, capable of maintaining 500+
Ships in class:
FWDn Archangel
FWDn Saratoga
Yeah, my mods start showing up here ;7
The Archangel class, a juggernaught by GTVA standards, is the single most powerful vessel in the FWA fleet. The Saratoga is the command ship of the 1st Fleet in Sigma Draconis, and the Archangel is the supreme commander's personal command. Their beam cannons represent the latest in FWA technology, and can effectively destroy any known space-faring object in a matter of minutes. Though untested on ships of war, the Archangel's main cannon has vaporized a 1,000,000,000,000m^3 asteroid in a single shot. However, due to the power consumption of this main cannon, the Archangel is the only class of ship large enough to mount this technology.

FWD Raynor
Size: 3km
Armament:
2 Long Range Beams
10 Heavy Anti-cap-ship beams
12 flak guns
12 anti-fighter beams
20 laser cannons
6 medium-long range anti-capital torpedo launchers
Fighterbay: 72 fighters/bombers standard, capable of maintaining 200+
Ships in class:
FWD Raynor
FWD Hope
FWD Legacy
FWD Endurance
FWD Majestic
FWD Avalon - Commodore Greshan
FWD Justice
FWD Leviathan
FWD Integrity
FWD Tempest
FWD Formidable
FWD Providence
The second-largest craft currently fielded by the FWA, the Raynor packs as formidable a punch in its size as any Terran destroyer. All six FWA fleets contain two of these mighty destroyers, manned by the finest crews in the FWA fleets. They also serve as capable fighter bases, though the primary strength of the Raynor is its heavy strike capabilities.

FWCa Phoenix
Size: 2km
Armament:
4 Medium Anti-capship beams
6 flak guns
12 anti-fighter beams
6 laser cannons
Fighterbay: 288 fighters/bombers standard, capable of maintaining 500+
Ships in class:
FWCa Phoenix
FWCa Trident
FWCa Frontier
FWCa Renown
FWCa Dominance
FWCa Andromeda
FWCa Wolverine
FWCa Relentless
FWCa Eagle
FWCa Hornet
FWCa Titan
FWCa Cobra
Poorly armed for its size, the FWA's carrier class is nevertheless a powerful craft when properly manned. Its hanger bays, dominating on its profile, house more fighters than even the Archangel class. These combat craft can be launched on a moments notice, to respond to calls anywhere in the system or to defend the carrier in the event of attack. This ship plays an exclusively supporting role in fleet operations, but can adequately defend itself if attacked.

FWCv Chimera
Size: 1.1km
Armament:
3 spine-mounted medium beam turrets
2 medium beam turrets
8 flak guns
18 anti-fighter beams
16 laser cannons
Ships in class: 36
Armed with state-of-the-art beam cannons running the length of the ship, the Chimera is another example of advanced TWA technology. It is a more-than-capable corvette, similar to the Deimos in function.
http://www.geocities.com/cek_83/new_corvette_ingame.html
FWCv Ajax
Size: 800m
Armament:
3 heavy, extreme-range missile launchers, all forward facing
5 Medium-long range anti-capship torpedo launchers
6 anti-fighter beams
10 laser cannons
Ships in class: 24
An unusual craft by modern Terran standards, the Ajax is a fire support craft of immense potential. Capable of launching high-yield, high-velocity missiles at targets from extreme range, the Ajax can devastate unsuspecting enemy battlegroups. However, if engaged directly, the Ajax is extremely vulnerable, as it has little fighter cover and only limited missile capabilities against ships not directly in front of it.
http://www.geocities.com/cek_83/missilecorvette.txt
FWC Hyperion
Size: 500m
Armament:
2 spine-mounted medium-light (heavy for cruiser standards) beam turrets
6 flak guns
10 anti-fighter beams
Ships in class: 72
The smallest FWA ship, the Hyperion is a standard cruiser, overloaded with anti-fighter weapons. It also has two forward-facing cannons, deriving their power directly from the ship's engines and thus capable of higher-than-usual power ratings. Extremely effective anti-fighter ship, though of limited effectiveness against larger craft.

Fear the 1500 word post! I can't believe it took all of that. Anyway, fighters can be assumed to be comparable to those of the GTVA, I'll try to get a list up sometime.
Also, this isolation thing keeps me out of things for now. (Technically you all think I don't exist, but we aren't going there), and we could use an updated nodemap though it isn't necessary. The only connection to the existing map is a now-defunct node to Sol. Great thing is, I've done some star-map (real) checking, and it looks like I could link in to Sol, Bernard's Star, Ross 128, Vega, and Altair when technology allows me to come in. I may find a Knossos device in my territory or something when things get interesting.

i've got a question on Styxx post in the story thread, he mentions an Sol-Beta Aquilae node, however, there is no such node, right?
you've got Sol-Delta Serpentis, wich is dead (duh) and Delta Serpentis-Beta Aquilae, and form Beta Aquilae to Vega and to Antares, but i'm still missing Sol-Beta Aquilae here. so Styxx, where did that node come from?

Erm, lemme check.
Fixed, sorry for the mistake. :p

By the way, you might have noticed that my side of the story is starting from Sol. I already have a good deal of information about what's been happening there done, so if any of you wants to play on the Sol side - being part of the government or a parallel group - and if Shrike approves, then talk to me so we can set things up, just don't go posting anything without checking it on this thread first, ok?
:)
-
Yeah I guess my start needs approval too; I'm sort of starting from beyond sol, via an uncharted (or presumed dead) node. Whoever gets Sol, keep this in mind. Though if I am actually going to try to come in to this, I should probably start my knossos discovery in the story thread.
-
Ok, just what is your idea for it? Any active node in Sol would have been found and guarded, no matter its stability... What's your idea for the story?

Read my post a little earlier. It was found at the discovery of subspace, but collapsed just after a super-colonization ship was sent through. It is on record (I'm contesting) but not gaurded because it is completely sealed. That is to say it is sealed to the point that no scanning technology can locate where it used to be.
-
In FS1 there was Sol-Beta Aquilae if you remember the briefings.
-
I probably should note, and I've mentioned it already in the story page, I've found a knossos. It'll take me at least a couple of weeks to figure out what it does and to move it to the Sol node. Or I could open a node to Sirius, or Vega, or one of a couple of other systems in GTVA space if people have problems with my corridor into the game being through Sol.

I've decided I'm bored. Ph34r my ultra-wimpy taskforce!
Ships:
6 GTC Lugh-class Battlecruisers
Length: 1200m (Yes, I ignore the FS2 Corvette designation)
Image: http://people.cornell.edu/pages/eyh5/PageRef/startrek/defiant.jpg (Yes, it's a scaled up Defiant)
Armor: Heavy (for it's size)
Weaponry:
12 Broadside-mounted Torpedo Tubes
6 Broadside Mounted Medium Pulse Cannons
4 Dorsal Mounted Light Beam Cannns
2 Ventral Mounted Light Beam Cannons
2 Forward Mounted Medium Beam Cannons
20 Light Turrets (Anti-Aircraft)
12 GTC Fenris-class Light Cruisers
EDIT: Forgot the Pulse Cannons

Seeing as im feeling kind, i dragged out a map i did awhile back for DatDB anyways ....
Should give you enough room to play in :D
-
Um, how exactly are we suppossed to blow each other up in this thing, anyways?
-
Charge beams and press the red button...
-
LOL
-
As some of you might have read in the story thread. My character is: Buck "nine lives" McGregor. Bounty Hunter Extraodinaire! He has a ship called the Beserker, thats a cross between a freighter and a fighter. But thats as far as my imagination took me. I'll post a render of it soon when my mind can concieve of something vile looking. :D
-
BTW, Eishtmo, slight flaw in your last story post. The task force I sent in is composed of 6 roughly destroyer-strength ships which lack hangars and have fairly pathetic anti-fighter defenses and 12 Fenrises with their anticap beams replaced by AAAhs.
-
Actually, I think I ignored the entire composition of your task force and simply threw a bunch of ships at you. It was easier than actually fighting a group I knew little about head to head with my group, which I also know little about. I'm just having fun, nothing more. Feel free to tear the group appart, but leave Keef and the Psomething a way out. Besides, like I said in the story post itself, the real fleet isn't even on the map yet.
-
BTW, anyone who wishes to know, the Terran Imperium is blockading and occupying from Dubhe to Luyten.
We're pretty much staying blockaded in there until Shivan's arrive. Need Shivans. :D
If you wanna attack me, PM me with details. I'd like to survive until the Shivan's arrive so that I can put my master plan into action. :drevil: For now the TI will ignore ships just passing through but will take on a agressors (they are looking to keep a low profile anyway).

TID Dominator
Class: Advanced Destroyer
Length: 1200m
Width: 450m
Weapons:
2x MAC (Explosive Charge or Shield Piercing)
5x Anti-Cap Beams
4x Slasher Beams
8x AAA Beams
8x Flak Cannon
10x Missile Batteries
12x Pulse Cannons
Crew:
675

Description:
The Dominator was developed as a Command Post vessel to work in conjunciton with other Destroyers, Corvettes and Cruisers. Featuring impressive weaponry, strong armor, and support capabilities for all types of environment, the Dominator is a worthy opponent against any GTVA ship of equal class.
The Dominator was retrofitted by the Terran Imperium to carry the MAC (Magnetic Accelerator Cannon) which hurtles shells at incredible speeds. Each shell can carry a high-explosive charge or a shield-piercing field projector. A dual burst from the MAC cannons can cause heavy damage to any warship.
TIFs Dwarf
Class: Swarm Fighter
Length: 15m
Width: 20m
Speed: 140m/s
Weapons:
4x Plasma Charge Cannons
Crew:
0 (Robotic)
Shields: None
Description:
The Dwarf is a super-fast, super maneuverable fighter designed to attack in large groups against enemy warships. Their incredible speed and small size makes them a difficult target even for AA Beams. Weaving and dipping, they unleash streams of plasma fire that rake a ship’s hull and blows away defensive and offensive weapons, leaving the ship crippled and helpless against larger craft.
While deadly, against enemy fighters they are more vulnerable. A lack of shielding means they are easy to pick off, though to hit them is still very difficult. Missiles are often too slow to reach the small craft before running out of fuel.
TIDx Cerberus
Class: Prototype Destroyer
Length: 3km
Width: 950m
Weapons:
3x Shivan Super Beam
6x Enhanced Shivan Anti-Cap Beam
6x Enhanved Shivan Slash Beams
20x Pulse Cannons
10x Flak Cannons
10x Missile Batteries (Shivan missiles)
Crew:
Unknown
Fighters:
15 Fighter/Bomber Wings
Additional:
Shivan Armor Plating
Shivan Lucifer Shield System
Shivan Jump Drive System
Vasudan Enhanced Weapons Systems
Vasudan EMP Shielding
Terran AWACS System
Description:
Very little information is available on the Cerberus. Infact, it doesn’t exist according to GTVI and GTVA databanks! The ship was apparently being built around the time of the GTI rebellion but was believed destroyed in an accident prior to the Hades completion. Where it has been hidden and how no record was ever found pertaining to it’s construction is a total mystery. One thing is for certain however, it represents a very large threat to any enemy force.
GTVI Craft (For my second character)
GTIJ Obsidian
Class: Juggernaught
Length: 6.4km
Width: 2.2km
Weapons:
2x Helix Cannons Mk. II
12x Anti-Cap Beams
8x Slash Beams
15x AAA Beams
25x Flak Cannon
25x Missile Batteris
30x Pulse Cannons
Crew:
12,000
Fighters:
30 Fighter/Bomber Wings
Additional:
Capitol Ship Shield Generators
C3 Capabilities
Ablative Armor Plating
AWACS Sensors
Extended Range Sensor Package
12 Deployable Orbiting RBC’s
Description:
The Obsidian was revealed only a year ago by the GTVI. It is a Remote Operations Command Juggernaught designed to allow the GTVI to operate in the most remote and hazardous of conditions. Additionally it was created to destroy other Juggernaughts and for this purpose, carries 2 Helix Cannons (Mk. II). Originally fitted on an earlier GTVI warship that was destroyed when the commander overloaded the core to prevent a warfleet from breaching a vital line of defense, the Helix Cannon was developed as the most powerful beam weapon ever developed.
Creating an interlocking series of beams that formed in a sphere around the target using complex magnetic fields, the Helix would collapse the “beam sphere” on the target, slicing the hull from numberous directions at once. However, the Mk. I suffered overheating that allowed firing once every 12 hours only. The Mk. II has since overcome these difficulties.
Along with the impressive firepower and sensor systems comes two new defensive measures. The first is a simple Captiol Ship Shield generator system that allows extra defense against non-beam weaponry such as bombs and torpedoes. However, it still is only a basic system and will not hold up under sustained barrage. The next is a series of pods around the central axis of the ship. When deployed, these pods form into orbiting RBC cannons that will add an additional 12 Beams to the ship’s already powerful defense. The use of the RBC’s is power-draining however so they are deployed only if the Obsidian looses several of it’s primary weapons.

And in case you're wondering, your fearless leader is still around, but things have taken a turn for the busy.

Never got an update on whether or not I can be a spacetaxi..., actually, I'd like to be a fleet of space taxis(20 sounds like a nice number), each will have a cheapo flak cannon crappily welded onto the hull.

An armed taxi? :D Thta'd be nasty in the real world :p
