To give a ship model a trail effect like a missle? I have this great idea for a mission with a comet and i was just wondering if it can be done.
(if not, i guess a big flying rock would do (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif).)

I don't think you can give it a trail, but you could build a custom thruster.ani for the model and use that instead.

Just create the tail you want as a model coming out of the back of the comet, and give it the thruster ANI texture.

A comet... you might be able to use an adapted giant terran huge turret (ie. much larger, longer trail, slower, different colour). (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

if you want it to have a trail like a missile, then just create it as a larg missile. I'm not sure if it would work but it may have a chance.
I accidentaly created a hornet missile in fred so i assume you can add missiles into the game environment by adding it to the ships table.

Do missiles still retain their trails and stuff if they are placed as ships? Because I'm not too sure on this, but I think missile trail information (among other stuff) is in the weapons.tbl...
