Title: Starfighter Website, go there NOW!
Post by: jonskowitz on October 27, 2001, 04:16:00 am
That HORRIBLE mess of a site that I USED to have is gone (deleted the whole friggin mess about half an hour ago).

In it's place is an actual WEBSITE that you can visit for news on the starfighter project, technical information on the ships and weapons in the conversion, and read the history behind the game.  It is a work in progress (no data on weapon systems yet, and not all of the capital ships are done either) but what there is of it should be fully up and running by tomorrow afternoon (still uploading all the files for it.)

It's located at http://jskgames.homestead.com/files/home.html (//"http://jskgames.homestead.com/files/home.html")

------------------
It (//"http://www.homestead.com/jskgames/files/betaFSII2SF011.zip") will be done by November, trust me :D

Check the links...they all point to "My Documents/..." They might be there on your computer but not on anyone else's... so the only thing we can see is the front page...without the images.

That site look great.
It's the content that makes the site do good.
Too many sites are really pretty but with no real content.

This has to the most original conversion on the Freespace 2 engine (definitly a conversion rather than a mod).
I really like the political background.

Great site!
This is gonna turn out to be a great mod! I love the background information, and the look of the ships.

Well, I sure hope so.  But face it, I'm kinda deviating from the accepted norm for space sims a bit (realistic maneuverability vs. twitch, highly effective weapons vs. highly effective defenses, teamwork and leadership vs. lone wolf, ect.).  I just hope people like what I'm trying to do with it.

Well, I'm really, REALLY hoping to have the alpha demo done NLT November 7th (there already is a beta demo available, it was mostly to 'feel the water' to see if it's worth pursuing the game at all).  It's all done except for the *.WAV files, but I can't do anything to speed that part up (sux depending on other people     (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)).  The final release version won't be out until sometime next year so don't hold your breath waiting for it  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif).

I will sure do. that was my aim when I was working on my (cancelled  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) ) campaign Outerspace. It was involving the first space fighters and things like that, you had only secondaries (required you to chyange some keys of course), and it worked kindda like Xwing alliance, you switched between missiles and ammo based guns (better protect your support ship, for once). There was no shields, a big damping factor (around 1 I think), and hooge speed. it was damn fun to play, indeed (tho quite difficult at the begining). But with the damping factors, the fights were much more based on how the ship handled rather than how powerfull weapons were ( they were all powerful enough to shot down a fighter in a few shots, but shots were not easy to place, either for the player or the Ai, so it involved hella cool dogfights, I was very proud of myself about the gameplay). Well, if I can finish OtT, I'll probably revive it...
