It's 11, I'm at work, I'm bored, and I have a few minutes to kill...
So what do I do you might ask?
Why I surf the web of course (god I love T-3 lines (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) ) And I bump into another 3DAP site featuring ST: Bridge Commander, plus a discussion on how MODdable it is.
This gets me thinking about (yet) another of my old wargames that I've currently got in mothballs. It was a bridge simulator type called "Starship Command Staff Simulator". The Idea is that teams of two or three people would divide control of a single ship helm, engineering, gunnery, and captain) between them and try to knock the stuffings out of each other. It was a real hit when I brought it to Gamefaire'99 (the custom models I had built for it probably had a little something to do with the popularity, but it was still a fun game at it's core).
This gets me thinking, might it be possible to make a pseudo-bridge simulator type game using the Freespace 2 engine and driving the command stuff off of SEXPs? I'm starting to think 'maybe'. Anyone interested in NOT flying a fighter for a change?

Cool concept, but i don't think the FS2 engine can do that sort of thing.

I think the IA lacks too much so you could do such a thing...

Well, i guess you could do it a very loose sense.... if you start with 3 ships docked together at the start, and not allowed to undock. Each has a seperate function, controlled by sexps in some way....
but it would be very hard to get to wrok and look right...

U R Probably right about the AI being too stupid to handle the thing, but I had multiplayer in mind when I was thinking about this one.
Of course there'll be no way to have more than one person staffing a ship... but it'll definately require vastly differing strategies and tactics to be successful. More like a slow dance of death than the mad scramble we're used to.
But in the end this is just something I'm doing to kill time while I wait for my staff to get my *.WAV files done for the Starfighter conversion (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I thought about something like that too, like a Starfleet and klingon academy fs conversion, where u order beams to fire and plot courses to jump too and stuff like that! Ill help you anyway i can, 3dap has a KA site and the way i understand it, u can put other models (fs2!) into it!
