Title: The Red Star
Post by: Shrike on March 06, 2003, 03:38:12 am
Anyone here heard of Red Star by Archangel Studios?

http://www.archangel-studios.com/comics/redstar/frame.htm

Very impressive.  This is the first comic I've gotten in a loooong time, and I just dropped 80 Cdn for the two graphic novel compilations available so far.  Takes place in an alternate Russia, on an Earth where magic is a fact of life and has become industrialized.

Those ships below - Skyfurnaces - are somewhat bigger than an Orion, at three kilometers long and 22,000 crew.

The Red Woman, fighting to save the URRS from the grip of Imbrohl.

I'd get them, but I'm broke. They look awesome though, gotta love having Ruskies, magic, and monolithic tech in stuff.

The basic concept is, as the guy who recommended it to me said, 'what if Stalin was actually a powerful sorceror who continued to steal his people's souls after his death'.

And the URRS is the United Republics of the Red Star.

Some of the **** they pull is incredibly cool...... like using the powerplants on their skyfurnaces to glass a desert.

That's just silly.

Looks good, though. What sort of timeframe is it?

Silly?  Why?

And the timeframe is roughly current.  In the second book there's a cameo by 'Americans', who have just invaded Al'istaan after the attack on Imperial City, Al'istaan is where the URRS got their butts kicked a decade previously.  Starting to make sense now? ;)

Not much background info on the site, but it looks an interesting concept.

Mmm, parallel universes. :drevil:

Stalin is a sorcerer? That would explain Stalin vs. Hitler (http://www.comics.aha.ru/rus/stalin/1.html) then.

never gonna be a movie or a series of that. As Buichi Teresawa discovered, nazi crosses and TV/cinema don't please producers much nowadays ( too bad for him, he was using the so called "nazi" cross as it's first, original use: a bhuddist symbol. Talk about hijacking :doubt: ).
