In that a lot of people died in both? There's no other similarity, and significance of an event is NOT measured in body count, whatever Hollywood and the news would like you to think.

The "why not" rationale works, but I'm still wondering what could have inspired this...

the signifigance of a tragedy is not measured by body count as you said but measured in the impact it has on those around it (directly or indirectly involved). it's just a sad truth that media and hollywood sensationalists blow it all out of proportion  and attempt to milk the event for every piece of coverage they possibly can get ( you get SICK of hearing about such things after the 4th or 5th week or so)

Actually, I used wireframe because the ships' textures were ultra crappy.

Uhhh actually the Titanic hit the iceberg on the 15th, or at like 11:50pm on the 14th. It sank like 4am on the 15th.
