Title: trooper animation
Post by: Nico on March 10, 2003, 08:51:31 am
hop, a little trailer of what I'm working on (click on the pic ):

I'm really happy with this one, anyway, any comments are welcome ( more than usual, I hope :doubt: ) :D

I love the camera movement. And the marine overall looks really nice, not to mention the "warehouse".

(I find the head-tilt still funny though :D :p)

Allthough the alien in the background is prettymuch as good as dead, it could "move" a bit... collapse would be a better way to say it I assume.

Woa, that looks realistic though the pic is funny - seems like this guy is dancing some exotical Hawaii dance.

that's often the case when you pick a random frame in an animation ;)

Aki: hehe, that damn head tilt :p
otherwise the bug is dead, so that would be a bit weird to see it move anyway :p
But don't worry, you'll see moving bugs ;)

I musta run that 3 second clip about 7 times!! Wow! Great camera movement, great animation on the shoulder dive/roll. Wanna do a hallfight scene? :p

By the way, one thing you can do if you want to give an impression of the camera holder twitching for a second is to make the camera go off-center from directly upright - tilt it sideways in addition to the other shaking.

Can't download it right now (at school :bleh:), but, judging from the pic it looks good. The marine looks a little thin, though, and his pose doesn't look...real. Maybe it's just the picture. Can we have some more stills?

I'll assume it's kickass :D

My mediaplayer prefers crashing to playing the file for some reason

This is worth one helluva jaw!

Venom, if you ever go working in a game company, I'll be sure to buy (note the word 'buy') every game you render for.

Did you use any preset mocaps from Character Studio or you animated the guy yourself?

Just saw it, very nice. The roll is perfect, as is the camera movements.
I'm probably the only one who has one, but I have a couple (minor) complaints. You're right about his arms, they do look correct in the actual movie, however, about the shooting animation. When he shoots off those shots, I generally think people's arms go straight, however, from the camera angle, his seem to be sticking out to the sides (not much, just, for me, it doesn't look like a comftorable shooting position ;)). Also, at the end of the clip, his head twitches a bit to the side.
Otherwise, probably the best animation I've ever seen.

BTW, can I have that model for some animations I was hoping to do? :D

used a motioncap file, but I wonder who had been motioncaptured :p
basically, it was probably a giant ape in a Mars Canyon. Had to retouch every single keyframe :blah:

Stu, that's words that really please me ^_^

UT: hehehe... for the "head twitch", see Gortefs comment ;)
basically I planed to remove it and, well, at the end it just didn't bother me enough to do it ( tho it would have just been a matter of deleting a couple keys, I don't think it's that bad ).
About the arm comment, to be honest I'm not sure what you mean :p, but disregarding that, this video was merely a test to spot out various things, and I will completly reskin the character ( it's an easy one, I've done well, for once ).
obvious pbs are the shoulders, elbows and knees, but all those can be fixed so easily it's a shame I didn't do that right the first time.
For having the mesh, sorry, but I have big plans for that ( I'm actually thinking of working on a 20 minutes animation! It's gonna be really tough, but I did complete my last project - a one minute long animation - and I'm confident I can achieve this one. of course doing that on his own is kindda a huge job, but knowing nobody who could help me, I'll have - and I will - manage somehow :) ).
btw, this guy is "Victor". Victor is cool, he dies and revive at will, he suffers a lot, always die in horrible pains, can change is skin tone, his size etc etc if needed, and can appear multiple times on the same shot :D
Victor is really awesome, I should call my project "Victor's story" hehe :D
to sum up, Victor is my generic male trooper ^_^

as soon as you have the latest divx codecs, anything should do I suppose. it's encoded with divx5.
