Title: Freespace Tech Room
Post by: Stealth on March 10, 2003, 11:13:59 am
Does anyone have the locations of all the textures, pictures, etc. used in the FS2 Tech Room?  I'm trying to duplicate it in Flash, but i don't know where to look how to find all the animations, the buttons, the *everything*, you know?

does anyone know?

no, a screenshot won't do the job.  i could use a screenshot, but i'd still need the buttons

Well, they are somewhere in the sparky and sparky_hi files, but you will have to look through a couple thousand of the interface files to find them.

You mean all the borders and stuff? not just the animations?

have fun, there are scattered, seemingly at random in the interface vp (sparky)

BTW, anyone know why the vps are called sparky, smarty etc?

Sparky=fun to look at.
Smarty=intelligence.
Warble=a bird's song

I'm stuck on the Stu, though, but the tango is a kind of sensual dance...

Now you have far too much time on your hands.

hey

no, i can use the textures and stuff (i realized) from screenshot... so all i need are the button animations, and any other "movement" or "animation" or button in the movie.

FS reads vps in alphabetical order.

I'm not 100% sure but i think anis called "TDB_00001" (in the
sparky_fs2.vp/interface) or simaler are what your looking for.

most of the standard interface art are in order, u just need to find out which one is the right one u want, in this case the tech room.

I always assumed it was short for stutter, since it's the voice VP :D

You'll more than likely find the files you need in sparky_fs2.vp. Look under the "interface" section.

All the backgrounds and button files can be found under sparky_fs2.vp or for high resolution versions, under sparky_hi_fs2.vp.  Weapons animations can be found in those as well.  The actual animation of the fighters and bombers and capital ships is done from the pofs, good luck figuring out how to do that with flash, your best bet would probably be finding some recording program to capture the ships' rotating stuff as animations, ya...

Thanks for the help LtNarol :)

Actually , i wasn't going to convert the actual ship rotations to Flash, i just need the interface... the borders and stuff, not really the inside stuff.  However, it's possible (very easy actually, i can show you how if you want) to convert the ship rotation animations into a flash SWF.  just importing, very simple.

thanks for the help!  appreciated! :)

Resolution at high quality comes out to about 5 MB for each fighter in swf format. Its interesting how people come up with so many things to do... :nod:
