Not sure if anyone's brought this up before, but I just came across this little problem with some of my ships. Would it be possible to create a new weapons bank in pofs for countermeasures? So that they deploy from the given point instead of from the center of the ship (or however they're done now). On the issue of reverse compatability, you could by default have the engine use the center of a pof if a point isn't found.
Just an idea. ;)

Also - what about different types of counter measure? Namely flares for heat seekers and chaff for aspect seekers. Handy, yes/no?

I would guess for selecting the appropriate countermeasure loadout for a mission. If you have both, then you need to be able to choose between them.

You can't steal the code for secondaries and alter the location and replace its ties to missiles with countermeasures?

I once had a bug where the countermeasures were all Ullysies(AKA the Bat). this suggests that it would be possible to make multiple coutermeasures, could there be one or two standard models made for each race? It would be much better that all ships using the same grey octagon.

Kinda related, would it be possible to make it so that secondaries can be used to destroy other secondary weapons? Such as using tempests to take out incoming harpoons?

last I checked, missiles can't shoot down other missiles, I shot off a pair of trebs at a helios once (or it might have been cyclops or some shivan bomb). The trebs had locked on fine, but the bomb survived a good 10 seconds to make its mark on some unnamed destroyer. I tried it again with harpoons just to see if the engine would allow it, tucked in 150 meters or so behind the bomb, gave it 2 harpoons in sequence; the harpoons just kept flying. Note, the bomb was killable since it nailed it with maxims.
EDIT: Oh ya, the idea was so that you can have a countermeasure that is remote detonated and releases floating chunks of metal to simulate chaff.

i like your idea but it would be kinda hard to pick what cm to use because you don't know what type of missle will be fireing at you but i bet in most casses aspect lock

actualy the little indicators are filled for acpect and empty for heat, so you can tell

i mean before missions for a cm select like 1 of these people(can't remember which one) so its kinda pointless unless we had someway of telling before mission

well, its all a matter of personnal preference, i might perfer using a remote detonation wave-based countermeasure that acts more like a mine while billybob over here might like dumping long chains of missile-attracting duds... Jane Doe might have a taste for chaff

You'd have a certain ammount of cargo space for countermeasures , and you'd balance between chaff and flares as suited your tastes. Then you'd have one button for chaff, one or flares, and maybe one for both, with an option to launch counters automatically if a missile gets to close.
And I could have sworn I'd shot down torpedoes with harpoons before... I'm sure I did... I think :nervous:
