A quick shot of all the Starfighter ships.
They are (starting in the upper left...)
Chinese Guided Missile Cruiser (180 meters long)
Chinese Guided Missile Corvette (70 meters)
Western VLBI Frigate (220 meters)
(second row)
Western Escort Cruiser (120 meters)
Western Support Cruiser (210 meters)
Western Light Strikecraft Carrier (390 meters)
(bottom row)
F-56 Multirole fighter (24 meters)
F-44 Space superiority fighter (17 meters)
A-36 Torpedo bomber (30 meters)
F-80 Light fighter (18 meters)
F/A-12 Fighter/bomber (22 meters)
Chinese Type-39 Space superiority fighter (14 meters)
Chinese Type-389 Attack fighter (14 meters)
Most of the capships still are untextured (I'm working on it DAMMIT!!!) but I have almost got the escort cruiser done.

Why is the cruiser smaller than the destroyer? You're using outgrowths of modern nomenclature.
-
Why is a Freespace corvette nearly the size of a destroyer? Why is a Freespace destroyer larger than a cruiser? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)
Seriously, I'm using a slightly different classification convention that the US Navy does. Ships are classified by role rather than by tonnage or displacement (I do have some real world examples, besides, all of this stuff is the relm of the airforce not the navy).
Western ship classification conventions
--------------------------------------------
Cruiser - Any small, fast vessel used for escort.
Destroyer - Any escort vessel that can carry and support strike-craft.
Frigate - Any service and support ship.
Carrier - Any vessel whose primary role is to carry, service, and support strike-craft.
=============================================
Chinese ship classification conventions
---------------------------------------------
Cruiser - Any main-line combat ship. Also used to describe long range cargo, tender, or support ships.
Corvette - A fast assault ship. Essentially a bomber.
Galleon - A massive, solar-sail powered craft used to transport bulk materials within the solar system.
------------------
I told you that It ("http://www.homestead.com/jskgames/files/home.html") would be done by November, well, mostly anyway...
-
Hmm.... the thing is, Cruisers have always been considered 'main line' units (in the absence of battleships) and Destroyers are the escorts. Even the name goes back to that. Torpedo-boat destroyers.
-
Actually, cruisers are scouting platforms, NOT mainline ships (at least during the age of the dreadnaught).
In today's navy, cruisers are just big escort craft...
-
They are still larger than destroyers though.

Very, very cool. Skin them NOW. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif)
And if after you skin them you want a beta tester again... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

No, I can't remember the last time I posted something productive, mother.
<Ragnarok temporarily offline for sevicing>

Ive got corvettes (smallest) frigates (next) destroyers, crusisers, battle crusiers and battel ships not to menchen carriers, supercaps, a mothership (for the aliens at least) as well as 7 cargo ships, shuttles and gunships. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)!!!

...what?
Make your own topic, post a picture, put 'em up for download, then people will be interested. Jonskowitz has had his stuff available in partial form for a while, and has been moving very fast to completing his project, beating most dozen-member campaign projects I've seen and getting better stuff done than most besides.
Although I must say, detail would not hurt that carrier one bit. Keep in mind textures get stretched with huge planes (besides the fact that they just look like modified cubes if you don't add detail)
And what destroyer, anyhow? I don't see one...
-
I was meraly comenting on the vessel names in realation to other MODs, namly mine. (which beats yours so there *sticks toung out in childish manner*)
-
Oh year I forgot to mention Jon I love that frigate! (is this actual size or are some things blown up? that frigate looks a bit big to the demo
-
[takes another look at LE's list]
[realizes he has no idea what you are talking about]
[takes another look]
[gives up and heads to the Hard Light forum for some good old decipherable nonsense]
-
I made a list from a diconary of ship types and used THIS instead of the Freespace version vere cruisers are tiny and destryors are huge... see now?

Thank you. I aim to please (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

The Destroyer got renames to a Support cruiser as a result of my discussion with Shrike. I haven't changed it within the mod yet however.

That's actual size. The VLBI is really huge, but it's all rigging and antennea. The actual, solid part of the ship (the part where everyone lives and works at the rear fo the ship) is very small (about the same size as the Chinese corvette).
Oh yeah, a quick apology to everyone who has been ramming thier headz against a wall in mission 16. I included one too many flights of OPFOR fighters making it unrealistically difficult. The problem has been corrected and the faulty version of the *.VP file has been replaced (the archives are named the same so the new one will replace the old one on extraction).
Also in the new *.VP file is a textured version of the escort cruiser and a quick multiplayer campaign for up to 8 players (team vs.). Might be fun to mess around with it to see who the better pilot is between you all (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Hate to say this, but you've been beat out by modern naval forces there. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)
-
eh? I don't understand are you saying my list is wrong (dosn't matter, works for me)
or are you saying I have mistaken in some other less obvious yet deviously insighful way? humm?
-
No, that you think that you have primacy on that designation scheme. After all, you're just using a modified naval scheme that's been used for generations.
-
err... that was my intention - I aint inventing this stuff!
